Failed

Well I fiind out this morning that I failed my 1 hour glucose test. They didn’t tell me by how much and I forgot to ask. So it could have only been by 1 point (like Robin) and I’d still be in here. It’s actually more pricks than I thought it’s be. This time I had to fast (but could drink water) and then they took my blood as soon as I got here. Then they gave me the glucose, orange this time which was much better and just tasted like flat Sunkist. Then they took my blood at half an hour, then at the next half hour, then an hour past that, and now I’m waiting for my final draw at 4:30. Not so much fun. I can’t wait to eat when I get home!

Errands

Yesterday I had the day off so I could get a bunch of stuff done.  Casey let the HVAC guy in to fix the heater before I was even awake.  That ended up being a much more expensive house call than we had anticipated.  Casey knew from looking online that the part needing replacment was only $40-60, instead we were charged $200 PLUS labor PLUS tax.  Ugh, not such a fun thing to spend money.  After I was showered and dressed I headed to Lab Corp to take my glucose screening (the one hour test).  It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be although the drink was really disgusting.  I’m betting that if I’d gotten the orange flavor or lemon-lime flavor that most other women I’ve heard of get, it wouldn’t have even been as bad as it was.  Instead, the tech offered me the bottle with the lid off and it was fruit punch flavored.  Bleh, I hate fruit punch even when it’s not super concentrated and sickly sweet.  I guess the upside was it was cold.  I’m pretty sure I’ll be fine as I’m borderline hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) anyway.  I was actually concerned that I was going to get sick even before getting there since I hadn’t eaten but I made it through fine and brought food for after my blood was drawn at the end of the hour.  My doctor should have the results of my test some time next week.  I’m betting that I won’t hear that I passed until my next appointment, unless of course I failed in which case they’ll most likely call me and tell me to go back for the 3 hour test.  Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

I was able to run home and eat lunch before heading to my next appointment.  At 1, I had an appointment at the Infiniti dealership to get the tire on the truck that’s been leaking air looked at.  They were unable to find the leak at first so they had to take the tire completely off and put it in a barrel of water to locate the leak which was actually a previous plug they had put in, leaking.  So that ended up taking way more time than I thought it would have (an hour and a half) but at least it was free and we got another free car wash out of the deal.  Unfortunately it’s threatening to snow today on our clean car.

Finally, I stopped off at the post office to get a package mailed off and buy some stamps.  There were quite a few people in there for it being only 2:30 and before Christmas but still not as bad as it would have been had I waited much longer.

We’re relieved that Top Chef is back on.  A lot of the episodics are just not that great this season.  We also watched Private Practice last night and am getting more and more annoyed.  It’s like every show revolves around some ethical dilemna (usually featuring Addison).  And don’t get me started on Addison.  Since she moved over from Grey’s Anatomy she just gets on my nerves.  She’s always involved in everyone’s business and trying to play the morality police.  I’m surprised some of these patients don’t threaten legal action for the crap she pulls.  It’s just nutty.  Casey laughs at me for watching the show because I just sit there and make fun of it the whole time.  It does entertain me but I get so annoyed at the same time, so is it even worth it??

The infant survival rate at 26 weeks is 80-90%!  That number just keeps on getting better!

Canceled

Alas, the car seat deal I got through Target was too good to be true.  Later Sunday night the car seat showed unavailable on the website.  Yesterday afternoon, I was unable to see that I’d even placed an order on their website.  And by 6pm, I received an email saying that my orders had been canceled.  Boooo.  It sucks Target has to put a pricing policy no their website, basically taking no blame if the price listed on their website is incorrect.  It’s a good thing I like my current car seat so maybe I’ll revisit buying the Britax one in another year.

Bloated corneas

“While your baby-to-be’s eyes are undergoing some changes, so are yours. Throughout your body you’re retaining fluid—even in your corneas, the outer parts of the eyes. The Mayo Clinic reports that your corneas may be up to three percent thicker, but the fluid within your eyes decreases around 10 percent.”
I’m swelling everywhere.  Hopefully this is one of the body parts that will go back to normal right away.  Eye trauma is scary stuff!

Dinner and some movies

This weekend was pretty low key – the story of our life right now.  But I’m not complaining, it’s going to get busy pretty soon.  Although not soon enough for me.  I’m getting super anxious (even more so than before if you can believe it) for the baby to actually be here so I can see and touch our baby.  Friday after work, I went to Target to supplement our groceries while Casey finished up work for the week.  That was pretty much it for Friday night, we started watching TV and I got sleepy so took a nap for an hour and a half, then woke up had dinner (cereal) and we finished watching TiVo’ed shows from Thursday (Smallville and CSI).

Saturday, Casey had to get up at 6 for server maintenance.  He thought it was only going to take about 10 minutes and then he’d be able to come back to bed.  That wasn’t the case, he was up for several hours helping the moron on call and ended up doing much more than he should have to get the job done.  He noticed that it was pretty cold in the house and when he walked downstairs the thermostat said 57 degrees.  We like it colder when we sleep but this was just too cold.  The heat was set to kick on at 64 and hadn’t.  Casey went to check if the pilot light blew out and found out we need some type of heat filament replacement.  He manually lit the pilot light Saturday and Sunday and kept the heat running just enough to heat up the house for the entire day (meaning he made it overly hot so it would eventually cool to a comfortable temperature).  He tried Googling to find the part we needed ($40-60) so we didn’t have to replace it but it appears that we’ll have to call in a professional (most likely due to safety regulations).  We didn’t do it this weekend because we figured the rates would be jacked up since it would be considered an “emeregency” and we could most definitely make it through two days without the heat.  It’s always something.

With all of the work we’ve been doing on the backyard, I haven’t bothered mopping or waxing the floors in the kitchen.  Especially before we got the rock in place, dirt and sand were everywhere because of the exposed soil.  Now that we’re pretty much finished back there for the season, I decided I couldn’t take the dirty floors any longer.  I cleaned the baseboards and the walls on the kitchen (the dogs may be pretty short but they seem to grow several inches when it comes to getting gunk on the walls) which took 15 minutes by itself, before even starting on the floors.  The wax I have is made to be used by hand.  Waxing the floor on my hands and knees made me realize how big our kitchen really is or it could have been the fumes making me think that.  So after an hour the wood was gleaming, I was tired, and the house was filled with fumes (I forgot to open a window beforehand, oops).

Saturday night we met my parents for dinner at Fiesta Jalisco.  My dad keeps joking that I’m going to have a Mexican baby because most of the time when we do meet my parents for dinner, this is where we go.  After having a nice dinner with them we went home and started watching movies I had Netflixed.  First, we watched ‘The Ruins’.  Casey had asked me to add it to my queue since he had read the book and wanted to see if the movie was worth watching – it wasn’t.  But we watched the whole pointless thing and were grateful it was only an hour and a half.  Then we started trying to watch ‘Good Luck Chuck’ but I got so annoyed I had to turn it off within the first 15 minutes.  We ended up just watching ‘The Sweetest Thing’ again instead.

Then yesterday (as I already posted) we finally got the stairs done.  They didn’t end up drying nearly as quickly as I had hoped so Casey had to put leashes on the dogs and walk them around to the backyard and then he’d lift them up and then hoist himself back into the house himself.  Fortunately, the dogs didn’t need to go out in the middle of the night.  At least I don’t think they did.  They never wake me up though, they always stand on Casey’s chest and start licking his face.  I guess I’ll find out when he gets up.  Hopefully the stairs are dry today so Casey doesn’t have to do this again while he’s working.  Fortunately the dogs don’t go out too much during the day so he won’t have that many trips if the stairs aren’t dry.

I don’t know if I posted about this or not (I don’t think I did), but I got my Hypnobabies home study course in the mail last Thursday.  I’ve already read through most of the book and got the CDs onto my iPhone this weekend.  The course is broken down into 5 weeks with a track off one of the CDs to listen to each night.  Last nigth I listened to my first track.  I’m really hopeful that this works for me in creating an easy and fast birthing experience.  Other than that, we watched the Broncos beat the Falcons, caught up on The Office (even with a dual tuner TiVo we still can’t record all the shows we want to watch), and then watched our Sunday night shows.

Double-digits

I’m now in the double-digits now.  Meaning I only have 99 days left to go until my due date!  Still 14 weeks to go if I make it to 40 weeks.  Based on 40 weeks, pregnancy lasts 280 days on average (although it can vary).  While time seems to be dragging by for me, my third trimester starts next week and then I’ll be in the home stretch!

Pleased

I’m pretty pleased with myself right now.  While looking on Slickdeals I found an amazing offer for a car seat I had been looking at for after the baby outgrows the infant carrier type car seat.  I have to admit I would have had a hard time stomaching the price of the car seat at regular price.  The Britax Marathon (in graphite) is usually a $280 car seat and VERY highly rated, supporting a child up to 65 pounds.  I found it on sale at Target.com for $45 shipped!  And I bought three others to sell on eBay!  While I have to wait 3-6 weeks for delivery, I’m really in no hurry and quite pleased with this deal!

I looked up Colorado state law for reference on how long a child has to ride in a car seat (whether it’s infant rear-facing, forward facing, or a booster seat):

“The law requires that children who are at least four years old but less than six years old and are less than 55 inches tall be properly restrained in a child booster seat or with a child safety belt-positioning device.”

Texas laws are quite similar, although once the child reaches 5 years old, they are not legally required to be in a booster seat.  We’ll have to see how tall she is by this age and whether or not we thinks she needs to ride in the new seat or not.  Regardless of whether she’s 5 or 6, we’re still ok buying the car seat now as car seats don’t expire for 6 years after manufacturing (usually the year of purchase) so no need to worry about that.

Steps

The steps are finally stained.  Whew!  Thank God we had decent 60 degree temps today and have managed to escape any water damage.  We’re hoping the steps dry quickly because it’s a pain walking the dogs around the house on leashes to let them out.
