Found

After going to three different stores, we finally found a copy of Rock Band 2.  We all just finished eating Stoli’s birthday dinner of Chick Fil-A (a little trivia for ya: of Stoli’s 4 birthdays, 3 of them have been marked with Chick Fil-A) and once Casey’s done with another work thing, the playing will commence.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to Sara and Stoli!  Stoli turned 4 years old today and in dog years is officially older than I am and not much younger than Casey.  We’re not going to do a party this year.  We are going to have Chick Fil-A (Stoli’s favorite) for dinner and get kid’s meals for the dogs and then if I’m feeling energetic enough, I’ll make some cupcakes for everyone.

I’m planning to stop by Best Buy on my way home and get a copy of Rock Band 2.  I think I’ve coerced Casey into playing with me even though he’s pretty much been turned off by any of the music games (Rock Band or Guitar Hero) in recent months.  Maybe it’s all the hours I put in to getting achievements and completing different difficulties on the various instruments?  I’m looking forward to it.

All Clear

The results from my bloodwork on Monday came back today.  Apparently everything looked good and the odds of any sort of defects are still very low.  Low enough where the medical staff is not able to find any indications that anything would be wrong with the baby, aside from by complete chance.  The results for Cystic Fibrosis finally came back today as well and I’m negative for that.  The way it was explained to us is that for a baby to get Cystic Fibrosis, both parents have to be carriers.  They would only test Casey if my test came back positive and since it didn’t there seems to be no risk for Cystic Fibrosis.

Yet another example of how no one here suspects anything, I was offered amusement park tickets by a coworker.  Yeah, I can’t really do that right now.  I know everyone will still find out eventually in good time, but now I’m trying to decide when a good point would be to tell my boss if it hasn’t become obvious by a certain point?  24 weeks?  28 weeks?  Or should I even announce it at all and still wait for things to come about naturally?

Rock Band 2

So Casey told me on Sunday that Rock Band 2 came out and I’ve been wanting it ever since.  I was at Target yesterday and looked to see if they had any in stock and they didn’t.  They had a spot on the shelf where they were pre-selling the game at $59.99 but the card said it wouldn’t release until 10/19.  Well according to Amazon (and James) the game is already available and it’s the full Rock Band 2 set with all of the instruments that won’t be out until 10/19.  Ugh, so I couldn’t pick it up on a whim yesterday and even though I want it, I know Casey doesn’t really like playing it so I’m unsure now if I want to fork out the money.  Decisions decisions.

Germs

How gross is it that someone brought in M&Ms for a candy jar at the front desk?  Not individual packages, but unwrapped candies in a jar that people stick their hands in.  There’s going to be a lot of sick people around here with flu season coming up and their questionable hygienes.

Flexing

The big work news of the moment is the entire organization is having to flex.  Apparently we are way behind on budget estimates and earnings and opposed to laying people off, the board has decided to have people flex instead.  For those that don’t know, flexing means changing our schedule to help meet the budget by taking PTO or unpaid time off.  Every pay period every person working for the orgnaization is required to flex a minimum of 8 hours.  Yes, 8 hours per pay period and we only earn 7.077 vacation hours per pay period.  This way all of the people that have hundreds of hours are forced to take that and that time is off of the books and if it’s unpaid then they just don’t have to pay you for time worked at that point (although you still accrue PTO based on the 72 hours you will be working and can save).  If someone takes vacation then this can benefit the department beacuse that one person is compensating and the rest of the department will only have to make up the difference.  As you can imagine a lot of people are pretty upset by this but no one in my department at least has found another job yet.

I’m taking the time unpaid so that I can say all of my PTO up for when I go on maternity leave, otherwise I would be in the hole and would eventually run out of PTO before then anyway and it’d just be a lose-lose situation.  This way *hopefully* I’ll be able to start my maternity leave at the beginning of February, as planned, and then after the baby is born go into my sick time and finally use my short term disability for as long as I can.  I’m being optimistic and looking at it as one less day a pay period that I have to work and I’m taking Wednesdays so Casey and I will both be off.

16 weeks

We had our 16 week appointment on Wednesday and all is well.  Other than the hour and 20 minute wait until we were seen.  Not so happy about that.  But all is well with the baby.  I haven’t gained any weight since my last appointment but apparently that’s okay at this point.  The heartbeat has gone down to 152 beats per minute.  I’ve read some Old Wives Tales that say the lower the heartbeat the greater chance it’s a boy.  While this isn’t reliable all of the time we’re hoping!  Even though the doctor referred to it again as the 18-20 week ultrasound, she said she preferred to have patients schedule it at 20 weeks when it’s easier to see all the chambers of the heart, etc.  So 20 weeks it is – October 8th at 1:30 – 23 more excruciating days.  But the good news is, it’s scheduled and at least now there’s a date to look forward to.

Here’s the 16 week morning and evening belly shot.  I had Casey take the morning shot and then realized that for continuity it would be better if he took it in the evening like he normally does.  I’m only posting it because my hair looks much better in this pic after not having taken a nap.  For some reason it looks like my belly has shrunk between the 14 and 16 week pictures but I think it’s just an illusion.  I’ve also posted some pictures of our nursery in progress.  While we’re not buying any furniture until some time next summer, we have most of the other things we need for baby’s arrival as you can see.

People at work still have *no* idea.  And while it’s been asked by friends and family if my coworkers are just being polite and don’t want to ask if I’ve gained weight or don’t want to assume anything, I assure you this is not the case and as soon as they suspect *something* they’ll start asking questions.  The game continues.

Snow Snow Snow

Took this pick from the FX yesterday while Kelly and I were out getting a snack. We had about five inches of rain ok thrusday and friday, which resulted in the small amount of snow on Pike’s Peak. I guess Eisenhower and Loveland Passes got around 4 inches.

Is it really that time of year already?

Pet Peeve

Talking on the phone in the bathroom, especially at work.  If you want to make a private call – go outside or to your car.  It’s not really private when you’re in a public restroom with 15 stalls.  Not to mention these same people talk on their internal pager cell type devices and often drop them in the toilet and need to have them replaced.

Saturday

So today I intend to finish as much of the patio as I can. Kelly and I are on our way to Lowe’s shortly to purchase about 16 more bags of sand to complete the install. The patio dimensions are currently 9 x 11 and I’m shooting for 10 x 16 when it’s complete.

John came over on Wednesday and helped me install quite a few tiles. The trick is to overload it on sand then just smash then in until they are level. So hopefully I can get the remaining sixty tiles into place, then I can set my sights on to replacing the back steps.

The steps that are currently near the back door have settled on one side, probably due to the fact that the previous owners and built the deck so that it rested atop the steps. That much weight over the course of years made them settle, this ruining the deck I’m the process. Lowe’s sells premade riser boards that I just have to attach to the house and make sure I have a solid base… Probably a project for next weekend.
