Job

After much ado, I have found a job. Three interviews last week and I have accepted a job as a Buyer at a tech company through the end of the year. I have another interview that i have yet to hear back from but they’re supposed to get back to me this coming week in a full-time position. Either way the job prospects are looking up.

Don’t Look Back

As if there was any doubt, we are alive, well, and survived our latest cross country expedition. We had a nice going away dinner with all of our Virginia friends (who we’ll miss) at the Buffalo Wing Factory (we’ll also miss) before leaving and heading to Kansas City for the first leg of our trip. It was a long 17 hours to Kansas City (luckily we were able to make the trip all in the same day) where we stayed with Casey’s grandma for a couple of nights and were able to catch up with a bunch of family (sorry Matt).

We made the last 9 hour leg into the Springs on October 1st and have since been adjusting to the altitude all over again. We’ve spent the last two weeks unpacking, getting licenses, and starting(Casey)/looking(me) for jobs. It’s been a stressful and hectic move with some unforeseen difficulties but things are slowly getting back on track.

Yesterday we celebrated my 24th birthday. Thanks to all the family and friends that sent well wishes through calls, emails, MySpace, cards, etc, they were very much aprpeciated. Up for this weekend my parents, Casey, and I are all going up to a couple of malls in Denver (Park Meadows and Flatirons) to do some shopping. Thanks for checking in…more later.inside

3 Days and a Wake up

We’re at 3 days and a wake up now. with not much left to do at all. We have a few random boxes and then our furniture. That’s it. We got the official moving paperwork today but they screwed up with our estimate and are trying to give us a higher price. I’ve already tried calling the office, calling the agent’s cell, and emailing her so I guess I’ll just be getting to ahold of her tomorrow. They really cut it close with getting us the paperwork today with so little time left to complete the paperwork, especially when they expect the credit card authorization to them 48 hours before the move (tomorrow). Hopefully everything just works itself out and it was only an input error and no one is being shady. Argh, I guess nothing can go according to plan.

I went today and got the car taken care of. Thursday is going to be a busy day for us winding up everything here and saying our goodbyes before leaving on Friday. I’m just so anxious now and ready to set off on our trip. I’m even looking forward to the long drive. Just waiting now, not much else to say.

Birthdays

Happy Birthday to Stoli, Sara, and Julie!!! Stoli’s turning 2 today and has been acting like she’s in the terrible 2s for months now, it’s only appropriate. Birthday celebrations will begin when Daddy gets home from work but I think she just had another present, her James said hi to her from the parking lot she’s been looking out the window and crying for 5 minutes she just loves him so much.

Counting Down

For those that were wondering I did get offered a job after Casey had already applied to HP. After all those applications and interviews talk about bad timing. Since we were waiting on the final word and it wasn’t definite I didn’t feel it’d be fair to start some place and then have to quit right away so the company was nice and understanding and I’m sure this will work out for everyone. Now the job search will continue again once we’re in Colorado.

Our time left in Virginia is quickly running out. Moving preparations are well under way and so far everything is going as scheduled. The first of three moving estimates was done today. While it was higher than we had anticipated I’m not too surprised with the distance and weight of our stuff. The nice thing is I believe all three companies give a ‘not to excede estimate’ so the price they quote is the highest we’ll have to pay but hopefully it’s less. When we moved into the townhouse in September of last year we had 4400 pounds and I highly doubt we’ve accomodated 500 more pounds of stuff since then. Then the other two companies are coming tomorrow to give estimates so by tomorrow night we’ll have a mover and then a storage unit (which I’ve already picked out just haven’t reserved since I don’t know when our stuff will be there based on which mover we opt for). I have most of our stuff already packed except for things I’ll have to get special boxes for like wardrobes and mirrors, etc. Only 10 days left…

The Job Hunt

So as some of you may know I have been looking for a new job for quite a while now. And as it turns out I interviewed with HP in Colorado Springs again. This was my third interview with this particular company since late 2001 when I separated from the Air Force. Well I guess third times a charm, because I received a call last night informing me of the offer letter that is to be delivered today or tomorrow. So needless to say Kelly and I are pretty excited to be getting out of the Washington DC area and back to Colorado. Its gonna be a bit of a pay cut, but with cost of living adjustments and such we will be doing great. And the best part about the job is that its ALL telecommuting work. I’m not required to show up at the campus unless i want to.

So with the impending move back west Kelly and I have been looking into homes in the area and prices. The price gap between the house we purchased here in VA and the available homes in CO is incredible. For the price we paid for our townhouse here we could easily afford a 4-5 bdrm house in Colo Spgs. So we are probably going to go all out this time and get the house we want.

It is sad to be leaving my friends here in DC, as I have quite a few that I have been working with for quite some time. I have been losing sleep agonizing over whether to take this job / pay cut, but I really think this is a good move, and perhaps will keep my interest for more then a year and i can possibly make a career at this company.

Not much else going on besides the job hunt. I have lost nearly 25 pounds in the last two months, all the weight I put on while working at ATR. We also have been watching a good amount of ‘The Dog Whisperer”, trying to gain some insight into what makes Stoli so crazy. That is about it.

So hopefully within the next two weeks we will get some stuff straight and prepare to head west once again.

My Boyfriend’s Back

My boyfriend, TiVo, is back in business! Casey hooked up TiVo and we found out that cable had been connected a day early so we can watch Nip/Tuck in real time tonight, if Casey doesn’t fall asleep!

Tell Me What You Don’t Like About Yourself

After spending the last couple of weeks catching up on the first three seasons of Nip/Tuck, the day has arrived. Nip/Tuck season 4 premiers tonight and we’re SO excited. The third season finale wasn’t quite as much of a cliffhanger as the second season with the revealing of the Carver and all. I won’t ruin the surprise as to the Carver’s identity for those that haven’t seen it. Stay tuned…

Bugs

We survived Tropical Storm Ernesto. There was a lot more hype given to it than was necessary, or at least to me. We didn’t lose power and it rained but nothing too bad, not like the floods in June. We’re now left with the risidual humidity and BUGS. Ugh, we tried taking Stoli for a walk today following The Dog Whisperer’s advice for training tactics and we had to cut the walk short (it was still 30 minutes long) because there were just so many bugs. You could see them swarming and they followed us inside. I don’t do bugs.

Another One Bites the Dust

Well not long after posting the last update, I got yet another interview. This company wasn’t quite as forthcoming as companies usually are with revealing details about the job. A security clearance wasn’t required but the specifics of the job, or even as far as interviewing questions were concerned were veiled and everything was secretive. While the interviewer assured me it wasn’t “cloak and dagger” type things, nothing was really nailed down as to what the mission of the company truly is. Apparently if they decide on me as a hire they will first be sending my information to the Pacific Palisades (beach area near LA) for verification before sending out an official offer/rejection letter. I still haven’t heard on the advertising agency I interviewed with last week. I really have a feeling I have these interviews down but we shall soon see.
