Second time around

I have another interview with the Newspaper Association of America (NAA) scheduled for next Tuesday. This interview would be with the VP I’d be directly supporting, he was traveling last week so hopefully this is a good sign. Wish me luck!

Blood, Sweat, and Tears

We ordered a few DVDs from Deep Discount’s semi-annual 20% off sale and have spent the day watching the fifth season of CSI. We’ve been hibernating inside lately since it’s really heated up lately and just taking Stoli outside will leave one dripping with sweat. I’m the thinking checking out the pool will be in order tomorrow.

I’m still applying for jobs but it’s slow going. The number of positions I’ve applied for is up to 62 now and the number of interviews is at 2. Of the interviews, I’ve already gotten one standard ‘you suck’ letter (which is no real loss except of my time after a 30 minute phone interview and then 2 hours and 5 people in person), the other was on Thursday so I haven’t heard back from that one but am really keeping my fingers crossed because it sounds like an amazing opportunity.

Concert season has begun

We had a great Memorial Day/Anniversary weekend with friends and family. The time went by way too fast and we’re already starting to plan what to do for the 4th of July. I’ll be posting pictures in the gallery for your enjoyment after I’m done here.

Tuesday we went to PEARL JAM! It was SO awesome I was even a little hoarse the next day. Since it’s been 15 years since Pearl Jam released their first album, their fan base has aged considerably. As a result, there were signs on the door that there was to be “no crowd surfing or moshing” and that “alcohol would only be served till 9:30 by request of the band.” Still a great concert and despite having to wait 15 minutes for a train, then after making it two stops the doors not closing and everyone being forced to get off, then waiting another 5 minutes for that train and that one not opening its doors at 2 stops – we made it home at 12:30.

Dixie Chicks tickets went on sale this morning at 10am. When I looked an hour later there were still great seats in the first tier. I’m guessing it’s probably the $75/ticket asking price + convenience charges, etc that are deterring people from snatching up tickets. I guess they figure they can rationalize charging that much now that they’re “country rock” and have made their message pretty damn political (although I still love their new album). While I would like to see them, I just can’t rationalize that when I’d be dragging poor Casey along for the ride.

Instead, I ordered tickets to go see the Dave Matthews Band. I’ve only seen them once, when we were in LA, although we did have tickets to see them last year at the same venue (Nissan Pavillion out in BFE, VA) but didn’t go because it was insanely hot and humid and our car AC wasn’t working. This year we’re biting the bullet and are going to go see them anyway since (a) the concert doesn’t start till 7 and they’ve most likely got an opening band, (b) our car AC works now, and (c) we’re only paying for lawn seats so it’s not *that* much (to go to Pearl Jam and DMB is still cheaper than going to see the Dixie Chicks).

Casey and I have now been married for 5 years (together for 6 in August). Where’d the time go? Happy Anniversary to us and have a great Memorial Day weekend to everyone!

Beware of Dog

I took Stoli to the off leash dog park near us for the first time ever. Ah, we lasted all of four minutes before I had to pick her up and take her home. She was not down with the other ten dogs or so sniffing her butt. She went all schizo on them and started barking and growling at them. What can I? She’s more of a people person really. That’s the first time she’s been around any dogs off leash and in a “friendly” environment. i think she’d be fine to be in a one-on-one situation with another dog that we knew the owners but this was just too much for her. At least now we know.

Enough

I’ve managed to apply for 32 jobs with targeted cover letters in 2 days. That’s enough for this week. I figure I’ll apply weekly. I’m hoping I have a good shot as a new graduate with experience, etc.

Without honor

After checking multiple times daily, my final grades and cummulative GPA were added to the CSU website on Wednesday. I’m pleased to say that amid selling the house and all that that entailed, I got all As. My cummulative GPA (which includes my transfer credits) is 3.514. Now I thought this meant I would graduate Cum Laude but CSU has their own scale and Cum Laude isn’t given until a 3.7 GPA. Surprisingly, some of the jobs I’ve been applying to ask for your GPA on your resume or have a minimum requirement so it looks like I should be ok.

Done!!!!!

I have finally finished my Bachelors degree!!! It’s taken me six years and three colleges to get here but it’s done. While it’s awesome, I don’t feel any different…yet. The official walk date for grads is on Saturday in Fort Collins but I won’t be attending because I did it all online and even though I still have the option of going, I just don’t really feel I need or want that. Grades won’t be posted till midweek next week so I’m looking nervous but looking forward to seeing the final grades come pouring in for my last three classes and my final GPA. I’m not, however, looking forward to paying back all the loans. Next up, convincing Casey to go back to school.
