Puppy Pics

So Kelly and I drove to South Carolina on Saturday to pick up our new puppy. Here are some pics of Stoli from last night when we got her home.

There will be plenty more pics to come.

We’re going to be parents…

On Saturday Casey and I are driving down to South Carolina so that on Sunday we can pick up our new daughter, Stoli.

We originally weren’t planning on getting a puppy till after we went to Hawaii next month but we couldn’t pass her up cause she’s SO cute!!! We both fell in love with her immediately. Rachel has offered to pet-sit for us while we’re gone so we know she’ll be in safe hands and won’t be stuck in a crate all day with strangers that might mistreat her. We’re super excited to go down there and get her.

Hey, hey what can I say…

This has been a pretty busy week for scrapbooking. Tuesday and Friday I went down to Rachel’s to scrapbook and hang out with good company/conversation/supplies. 😉 Wednesday, I went and bought the Knifty Knitter and started knitting myself a beanie, I’m actually pretty close to being done with it after spending most of last night working on it, we’ll see how that goes and I may move on to scarves next. I have to say that knitting is MUCH easier than crocheting, although I still have a crochet project I am determined to finish. I managed to get registered and my financial aid in order for my 5 classes and got 9 of my 11 books as of yesterday so I should be ready to go on Tuesday, or at least I hope so. Tonight, finally after being married almost 4 years, I have FINISHED my wedding album!!! We went to Rachel & Jody’s tonight for some BBQ Chicken Pizza (Casey’s new speciality) and ended up just hanging out scrapbooking, watching TV, and playing SPADES (we’re trying to get a regular game going, hint, hint). Since it’s a 3-day weekend it looks like we might be going down there again and hanging out and Casey fixing Josh’s computer on Monday. Tomorrow Casey’s thinking of playing frisbee golf if he feels better and then we talked about going over to Joe’s for some pulled pork and if Rachel comes up to the RV Show at the Dulles Expo Center then she should be stopping by too. Next week’s project is to finish the side-by-side layout to complete the album my mom made of my 18th year. I *would* have done my L.A. album after that but I’m still waiting on photos donated by other people to make this happen so I may resort to something else. Only 5 weeks (as of Friday) to go till Maui!!!

Weekend Update with…

Its been awhile since I have updated. I have recently been caught up in playing World of Warcraft with some people, its a great game but a real time hog. We still have not received our check from the insurance company regarding our breakin last month in LA. Virginia has been treating us VERY well, we have had very little problems since we have been here, other then not enough hot water and some heavy walkers upstairs from us.

My job is going very well, once again for those that don’t know I’m now working for the DOJ TAX division, basically its the IRS lawyers that come after your ass for not paying taxes. This is a full NT 4 to 2K3 upgrade, including an entry-level SAN installation at several sites in the DC and Dallas area. Shouldn’t be to difficult. So right now we are waiting on all of the Servers to arrive from Dell and the SAN equipment to arrive from EMC. Its been rumored that one of guys on the team (myself included) could possibly get ALL the EMC training we want FREE for one year. How much does that rock. I only hope my supervisor will select me to do the training.

Speaking of jobs, I have been asked by my previous program manager if I knew anybody who wanted to move to Hawaii for a position working with the organization I had previously worked with. So if anybody is interested let me know.

On the first day that I went into the office here in VA, I was given a new work laptop. A nice Dell Latitude D600, I have to say that I am enjoying using this laptop which puts me in somewhat of a predicament as to replacing my Powerbook. I really do love using Macs, but with the release of the Mac Mini I could get my fix that way and then just pick up a nice new Dell laptop. I did read today that Powerbook speed bumps will be coming in the next couple of weeks, but what i was really hoping for would be the Radeon Mobililty 9800, which probably won’t happen. From what I have been reading is that WoW plays horribly on even well equiped Macs, and that is kinda important to me. Going back to Dell, when we left LA I threw out my old crappy 17in CRT monitor because it was frying my brain, so a few days after we got here I went to Best Buy and picked up a nice 17in LG LCD with 12ms response times. Realizing that I had payed to much, I ordered the Dell 2001FP and spent about the same amount for a much better monitor (and it arrived with no stuck pixels). So this evening I have to go to Best Buy and return the other LCD, and hopefully dodge the restocking fee.

In just a few minutes I’m going to walk over toward the MCI Center and meet Kevin and Erik for lunch, I haven’t seen Kevin since his trip out to LA in October(?). I gotta stay in the loop as far as that organization goes just incase I end up going to work for them once this contract is over.

I believe Justin is on his way to LA today looking for a new pad. Hopefully he will get a nice place in Santa Monica on the water, that way when we go to visit we will have a nice place to stay. Selfish I know, but I think Justin is ready to live the high life. THANKS TO ME (snicker).

OK its about time to go for now, so I have to wrap this up. Kelly and I may be going to the Buffalo Wing Factory tonight for the all-you-can eat wing night and then a pitcher of beer or so.

OK time to go. If anybody is looking for a job in DC let me know.

Stress-free and loving It

After much procrastination and anticipation, I’m finally making a post and adding recent pictures (sorry no pics of the apartment until we get a new camera) from our new home in Virginia. Everything has been going so well since we left L.A. (except the small matter of snow in Utah of course, oh and the fact that we still haven’t gotten our check for USAA for the burglary) but other than that things are going good. We left St. Louis on New Year’s Day and made it here in 12.5 hours, exactly half way between Colorado Springs and Fairfax. The ride wasn’t bad, unless you count the scares of TONS of cops in Ohio – Casey saw about a dozen in the first 7 miles of the state. The speed limit ridiculous – state’s need to follow the example of Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. Come now, people are going that speed anyway. Casey and I KNOW that we will eventually get a ticket here. Due to the lack of traffic and the flat roads we are inclined to go a steady speed of 80 (no tickets yet though).

We spent the first night at Rachel’s. An air mattress beats the hard floor. Fortunately, this time when moving the electricity, gas, and water were already turned on (high speed internet was turned in on Monday, HD cable on Wednesday). Justin came down Sunday afternoon to help us unpack and we got almost everything done while he was here (we were officially unpacked as of Wednesday night). Our place is actually a lot bigger than our last one, close to 200 sq.ft. larger. Guess we’ll need to buy some more stuff to fill the space. 😉 (We had outgrown our apartment in LA as soon as we moved in.) We’ve already started improving the place with small touches such as new knobs on the kitchen and bathroom cabinets – we haven’t painted because we haven’t settled on colors yet. Casey’s enjoying his job so far and is actually (gasp) learning stuff. Far cry from the babysitting and troubleshooting he did in LA.

Since God’s wrath has taken it’s toll on LA, our insurance claim has been pushed to the back burner (even though it should have been addressed by the time the torrential downpours took place) and the other claims have been processed. i’m ready to contact a supervisor and get something done ASAP (it’s been a month on Sunday) but Casey’s doesn’t want to muddy the waters and piss anyone off – I want our money so we can get on with our lives (since there’s no hope of getting anything back or ever hearing from LAPD EVER again.)

Rachel, Lexi, and I had dinner at the Silver Diner on Tuesday. It’s so nice that people are glad to have us here! Lexi is confused since Casey is traditionally a girl’s name and thinks I’m Casey. If we ask her if she wants to go with Casey she’s all for it but if we say Kelly she doesn’t understnad that *I* am Kelly, so whenever I’m talking to her and I say Casey she must think I’m speaking in the third person. 😉 We had a good visit and Rachel’s gonna have to come back because I *have* Mapquested the A.C. Moore store.

Wednesday I went to Ft. Belvoir to the commissary. Upon entering the gate I was informed that my decals had expired (they were ’04, this was the 5th day of ’05). I was scared that this would turn into an ordeal and I would need Casey to get anything done. I hesitatingly went to the visitor parking center or whatever it’s called and grabbed everything I could think of and was in and out within 5 minutes. Food here is actually CHEAPER than L.A. even at the commissary, I was able to replenish our groceries (including all the stuff we had to throw away such as condiments) AND get gas and alcohol for $300 – what a deal! I’m gonna be sad to give those perks up in September (we better have an extra freezer by then).

We ordered our tickets from here to LA for next month, since our tickets for Maui are direct from LA we’re gonna have to spend a few hours there (hopefully visiting the city will treat us better than living there). It’s getting down to it and we’re getting pretty excited about going over there and relaxing completely!

Today I *finally* got my financial aid and registration status in order. It’s not complete yet but after several phone calls and emails, I think we’re making progress and it should be completed by the deadline next Friday (or at least I hope so). We were grateful that our complex’s business center had a fax machine, until we realized it was for local faxes – what good does that do?! So I found a UPS Store and then found a Trader Joes! Two-buck Chuck is no longer $2 (or $1.99 to be exact) it’s now $3.29 Leroy (or so the cashier said), I guess the truckers want to get paid or something. No problem, still a bargain for the great cabs!

Tonight has just been spent relaxing, me organizing MP3z and pictures – and making Southwestern Chicken Pizza (see the California Pizza Kitchen website for more info) and Casey playing his game along with EVERY OTHER PERSON WE KNOW.

We don’t know what the weekend holds in store for us but I’m sure there’ll be plenty to do, without the hassle of traffic.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Here’s to a better 2005 than 2004. We’re looking forward to a new chapter and better chapter of our lives on the East Coast. Right now we’re ringing in the New Year with Matt & Julie in St. Louis. Dick Clark decided to give the people of the central time zone the shaft so we didn’t get to see the ball drop (or see Marla and her Mommie in Times Square). Ashlee Simpson (for those that don’t know, the ugly, lip-synching Simpson sister) is killing me on this show but we’re not motivated enough to turn off the TV.

We made it to St. Louis from the Springs in 12.5 hours which isn’t bad time at all. This also takes into account stopping more than necessary (including the drive-thru at McDonald’s for ice cream which ended up taking an hour) and a fatal accident in Salina, KS (a lit up construction trailer fell off the back of a truck and into a car causing it to go off the overpass and life-flight to show up). We’re hoping that getting to Fairfax won’t take quite as long but we’re prepared either way. We went to a brewery here in St. Charles last night and today took the Metro into St. Louis to Union Station walked around and had lunch and then down to the Arch to take pictures and walk around (my first time near the arch while not on I-70). We’ve had a good visit with Matt & Julie and are thankful we decided to stay here instead of driving straight-through.

Since we’ve left LA the time has flown by. I’ve grown to appreciate Colorado even more since spending a year in LA and look forward to moving back one of these days to be closer to family, friends, and a better quality of life. We’ve enjoyed a much needed, relaxing vacation spent with family and friends and were sad to leave Colorado once again. Remember that our apartment is always open to everyone and we’ll be back to visit you guys again soon!!!

Happy New Year again. I hope everyone sticks with their resolutions and is happy, healthy, and prosperous in 2005!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to CASEY and GRANDMA

Happy Birthday to Casey and his Grandma Lora (he’s supposed to be calling you). Like Sally said it’s his 26th which means he’s on his way to 30 (not that he can ever remember how old he is, he turns to me for that 😉 Happy Birthday Eve to John who IS turning the BIG 30 (it won’t be THAT bad)!!! Casey’s off for a leisurely game of frisbee golf with Dave in Pueblo – hopefully Dave will let him win for his birthday but it’s doubtful. Since we’re still waiting for our insurance check to come through to replace the things we really wanted for Christmas/birthday we’re still counting on a big Christmas in January and Casey’s known for months that his gift is to get a tattoo but I did pick up some other things for him that I can’t wait for him to open (I wanted him to open them days ago, I can’t stand the anticipation and they’re not even for me). Tonight we’re going with the family and The Tinkles and Delobels to Buca di Beppo for dinner. I managed to reserve the pope room but we only have like an hour window so I might rethink that and just get regular tables so we can take as much time as we need, we’re gonna have a big group. Unfortunately James can’t make it down for the dinner but we went up and spent a few hours with them yesterday and got to see their new abode in a loft in LoDo which was awesome! Randi *just* called me as I’m typing this and is less than a mile away so hopefully I’ll get a chance to spend a little time with her before we leave and she goes up to her parents’ new house in Florissant. I would post Casey’s birthday pictures but we don’t have a camera anymore so I’ll have to snag some of my mom’s to showcase. Again Happy Birthday to Casey and Lora!!!

Merry Christmas to All

Merry Christmas to Everyone!!! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their day off with friends and family. Thus far, we’ve been having a very relaxing and much needed vacation. We’re getting ready to eat breakfast now (it’s a late one but we’re not having a typically timed dinner) and then we’ll open presents a little later, most of us exchanged Amazon gift certificates via email so there’s not much under the tree. Casey and I are celebrating Christmas in January once we get settled and get our insurance reimbursement. We have high hopes that 2005 and our new home in Virginia will be exceedingly better than the past year.

Wednesday night when we came in and Marla and Meagen came over around midnight and we caught up (haven’t seen each other in a year) and exchanged gifts. Thursday night (Christmas Adam) we went over to John and Alison’s and had dinner at Chili’s, then drinks and Texas Hold ‘Em. John ruled at that game (let’s see how he does when it’s real money;). Alison got me ‘Newlyweds Season 1’ AND Paris Hilton’s book!!!

After getting home at 2am from Alison’s, my mom woke me up at 5:30 so that I could go to work with her and she could show me off. I took a 15 minute nap on the floor of her office before we headed to the hospital. There were a ton of super cute babies in the nursery (even the Mexican ones) and sat in on rounds and report with the rest of the doctors/nurses/social workers – it was hilarious. Then it was pretty boring till we left. Rachel called me and I told her of our changing plans but we’ll still be staying there for the New Year’s weekend. After leaving here we’ll hopefully either get to spend Casey’s birthday OR New Year’s with Matt & Julie! We’re managing to get a lot of visiting in, in a relatively short span of time!

i gave my hair a much needed cut and coloring by the best stylist I’ve ever had – Susan at Studio One (if anyone is interested). As L.A. has taught me, paying more does not equal quality. My hair is still a little brassy because Susan had to correct the multi-colored effects of the last years’ “professional” services and cut off 3.5 inches (it needed it). My hair is now the shortest it’s been in years but is much healthier and is a nice change.

Wait for it… Wait for it… DONE!!!

Yawn..Stretch…Beer… it feels good to finally be here and not be cramped up in the car anymore. It took Kelly and I two days to get to Colorado Springs, but we made it in one piece and that is all the matters.

We stopped off last night in Las Vegas to have dinner with my Aunt Donna. We met her at a Chili’s that wasn’t far from the 15, and enjoyed a meal and some dessert. Then we jumped back into the Tomlinson Family Truckster and headed off into Utah. We managed to get I-70 before it started snowing and then it picked up progressively. We made it 37 miles on I-70 before we made the call to find a hotel and get some sleep and let the snow take its course so we ended up in Richfield, UT at the Hampton Inn. Not to bad, scored gov’t rate, had free WiFi and free breakfast and a nice warm shower and a bed, that was all I was looking for. We headed out at about a quarter til 9 this morning and other then a good bit of snow at Silverthorne and Eisenhower Tunnel we FINALLY made it. We rolled into Kelly’s folks house at about a quarter til 7 this evening. What a long trip its been.

So now I’m looking forward to relaxing and doing NOTHING for the next few days. Hopefully play some ice bowl frisbee golf with Dave, but that is about it. I’m so exhausted right now but I figured I should post something since we have been on a streak as of late.

The good news is that Justin will not be deploying to Iraq and will indeed be moving to LA to take my place at my former office. Also he has given his notice at his other job, so he will be able to come down to the new pad in VA and hang out with us for awhile and help us unpack and watch some Star Trek:TNG Season 1. W00T!

I FINALLY found the extra stick of 256MB DDR I had from my Powerbook (that I had replaced with some 512MB sticks). I had given the other piece to Matt and Julie for their new Powerbook, and since we bought Kelly a new Powerbook the other week I wanted to throw the last 256 into her laptop to bump it up to a 512MB. I did that tonight as well as hook up the Airport Express so she can surf wirelessly while we are here.

OK time for either a beer or a glass of the 18 year old Jameson that I picked up before we left. Must relax and watch the snow fall.

Tick..Tock…Tick….Tock

Less then two hours now. Kelly is getting the exhaust on the car buttoned down at the auto shop, actually I think she is walking to Best Buy while it is getting worked on. And I’m here at work waiting til 11 so I can get out of here. I came in a little after 6 this morning so that I didn’t have to take a full day of PTO, so now I only have to take 3 hours for today.

Kelly finished packing up the apartment this morning after she dropped me off at work, so as soon as I get off we can pack up the car and hit the road. The weather channel is calling for snow in the mountain regions this evening and into tomorrow, so we are going to have to play it by ear as to when we will arrive in Colorado. I would like to get there tomrrow sometime, but it all depends on the weather. I’m not going to be driving in a blizzard.

I have my desk all packed up here at work. I have everything organized for Justin so that once he places his ass in this chair he will always look like he is busy.

I think its about time for punch and pie, I work with some of the nicest people here, and I’m gonna miss working with them.

Hopefully the next update will be from Colorado.

We are outta here.
