I’m a star (Boogie Nights)

Saturday I worked all day on the movie “Supercross” as a stand-in (literally stand-in for actor while the camera and lighting is adjusted, step up from extra) for Sophia Bush from ‘One Tree Hill’ from 12 noon till 12:45 so I managed to get paid some overtime too. Sweet! Good opportunity, hope I’ll get another one soon. So far this week I’ve only been able to submit for one job and am hoping after I get a bikini pic taken to submit for one more.

Trim Spa is still going good so far. I hit a road block yesterday but ice cream did me in, i’m sure. Hopefully I’ll be back on track tomorrow. Now I just need to get to the gym more.

Today was my second day getting paid at Geddes. It’s nice to get paid for the work I have been doing for the last 5 months for free. Fortunately, I have even more hours next week! Now I’m just going to sign up with a temp agency like Apple One to fill the times i have available that i’m not working but still have flexibility for extra work.

Casey got off early yesterday so we finally got to see Harry Potter. Contrary to some people’s opinion, i liked it a lot. I read in EW that althought the director didn’t follow the book exactly he tried to tell certain stories with as much detail as possible, which he did. The cinematography was definiteley darker and shakier than the first but it had David Fincher’esque moments that I liked but I did notice things once other had pointed them out that have read all the books (I’ve only read the ifrst one).

I have to work tomorrow evening but tomorrow evening I’m hoping Megan won’t have to work so we can get together. Before work I have to go to Sherman Oaks and pick up the overtime that the agency owes me for last Satruday. No plans for the weekend but I’m hoping the ‘June Gloom’ will burn off and we can get some beach time in.

Hmmm

I don’t have any news to add today. Cleaned, went to the gym, watched the Smallville season finale, and was online. We were going to go see Harry Potter with Megan and Jason but the showing they had tickets to at the Chinese theater was sold out by the time we checked for tickets. So I gues we’ll have to wait a little longer to see it. I should have more news to post tomorrow and it *should* be good, so stay tuned….

the vacation is over

After almost 2 weeks of spending time with my parents, they flew back home today. 🙁 I’m pretty sad but that’s to be expected. It’s sad to see such a good visit end. Here’s a summary of what we did:

May 20: parents flew in at noon, picked them up and brought stuff back to our apartment, then walked to lunch at Baja Fresh, that night went and visited Nicky and family for a couple of hours, then ordered Thai for dinner

May 21: we went to the California Science Center which is an interactive way to learn about science and has different exhibits that are specific to the area including several earthquake simulations, we probably only saw half of the exhibits because we didn’t arrive until late in the day, then we went behind the museum to a rose garden owned by the city with hundreds of thousands of roses of different varieties. It was really pretty but we’ve already seen roses before so didn’t spend much time there, then our way back to the car we passed the Olympic Stadium from the 1984 games (closed to the public). Traffic was a mess on the way home, didn’t think about the Friday rush hour or being game 2 of the NBA Playoffs (which the Lakers won!).

May 22: we planned on going to the San Antonio Winery in downtown L.A. but since we had plans to cook dinner at Nicky’s, settled on In-N-Out instead, drove by the water, and gave my parents their introduction to the Third Street Promenade, Casey’s chicken parm was great (as always) and Along Came Polly was almot as funny the second time around.

May 23: went to see Shrek 2 at the Century City mall, it was pretty cute, don’t remember if I liked it better than the first one but there were definitley some funny parts (ex. the giant gingerbread taking the cup of coffee off of the Starbucks and the people running out of it and into another Starbucks RIGHT across the street from it and Justin Timberlake as a prince). We went into Bloomingdale’s aka Bloomy’s (my first time!) and I gawked at all the stuff I wanted and Casey promptly ushered me out. For dinner we went to an authentic Mexican restaurant – El Robozo, it was OK but I’d like my food a little more Americanized than I got. What’s wrong with a Mexican restaurant that can’t even make a REAL margarita it was premade mix with a splash that you couldn’t taste of tequila. Ick.

May 24: Casey had to work today so my parents and I went shopping. Jim wanted to look for some new sunglasses at the base and got a shock at what the BX here looks like – it’s a converted airplane hanger, then went to 2 different malls just looking around – the first mall sucked but the second wasn’t bad and I came home with a new Nine West purse and a cute top from Nordstrom’s.

May 25: More shopping. Nicky and family met my parents and I at Third Street Promenade for more shopping, we were hoping the excitement and exercise would get that baby out.

May 26: I guess the exercise worked because Nicky’s water broke at 3:30 AM and we got the call to go to the hospital around 7:30. After being in labor for over 18 hours, Nicky gave birth via C-section to a beautiful baby girl, Emily Morgan, weighing in at 8 pounds and 5 ounces, and 21 inches long. I told Nicky that she insists on being the center of attention because Casey and I had dinner plans with my parents to celebrate our third anniversary at Lawry’s. 😉 But that’s ok, we see each other all the time anyway.

May 27: we went to see a recovering Nicky and baby Emily until too many people showed up at once and we decided to break for dinner at the Elephant Bar (good) before heading back to visit for awhile longer.

May 28: what could a trip to Socal be without visiting Hollywood. We had lunch at Hamburger Hamlet (not too impressed) and then looked at Mann’s Chinese Theater, the hand and footprints outfront, the Kodak Theater, and the Walk of Fame. For dinner, Casey made some yummy shrimp scampi, red potatoes, salad and a little too much champagne.

May 29: Happy Anniversary to Grandma & Grandpa, just spent the day lounging around the apartment.

May 30: went to see The Day After Tomorrow (good, although a political mouthpiece and unrealistic in places but as good as it could get), took pictures of the ocean at sunset, and had dinner (late anniversary) at a Greek restaurant on Third Street. Mom and Jim were introduced to the coffee (bad) and teas (good) of the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf due to Starbucks being closed. While Casey and Jim were playing some new computer game, my mom and I watched Love Actually which was actually really good. I wasn’t expecting it to be but they did a good job of bringing closure to all the realtionships, even if they didn’t end well. And Billy Bob Thorton as president couldn’t have been a bigger jab at Bush.

May 31: went to In-N-Out for lunch and then on to Nicky’s to visit everyone for awhile since my parents were leaving the next day. My mom dyed my hair because the chick at Vidal Sassoon didn’t know what she was doing and my mom does a better job. The rest of the night we just spent relaxing in preparation for their travel day.

Today I cleaned the apartment, read some more of my book (The Bergdorf Blondes, just finished The Second Assistant), and looked for some jobs. I think tomorrow I’m going to go and sign up with extras agencies and hope they’ll find me some work.

Welcome to Hollywood

We went to the new Hooters in Hollywood for wings and beer tonight with Megan and Jason. While we were there we spotted No Doubt and before they left I got to shake Tony Kanal’s hand!!! Welcome to Hollywood, what’s your dream?

Since I’m part of the URL I guess I should post

Even though I haven’t posted in awhile I’ll try to keep this thorough but to a minimum.

I’ve been slacking on going to movies lately. Megan and I had a girls’ day and watched 13 Going on 30 which was a lot of fun. The movie was good and I like Jennifer Garner a lot although the movie was predictable (although that might have been because I read the script). There was a sneak preview of Raising Helen on Mother’s Day so Casey and I went and saw that. The premise was cute and I love Kate Hudson so I drug Casey to it. Surprisingly it was rated G but was actually pretty good despite the low rating.

As far as books go, I’m hooked on chick lit – I have been since reading Bridget Jones’ Diary. Recently I’ve read Can You Keep a Secret, Shocking Pink, and I just started on The DaVinci Code. I still need to order The Bergdorf Blondes and The Second Assistant both of which i can’t wait to read!!!

The Survivor finale was last Sunday and I’m sad to see my favorite players say goodbye. The person I wanted to win did (Amber for non Survivor fans) and my second favorite also won the alternate million on Thursday. I’m sad to see Friends go but am glad they did so with Ross & Rachel back together again! I don’t know what’s going on with Smallville. Are they trying to have a SERIES finale, they’re moving everyone away from Smallville. What’s Smallville without Lana? I’m sure in the next 2 weeks there’ll be some resolution there. Smallville season 2 will be out on Tuesday along with Sex and the City. I can’t believe they made it into a 2 part season – it was the second part I missed from having no electricity. I know what happens but can’t wait for the second part of season 6 to come out. Tonight’s episode of Sopranos was WEIRD. It had the longest dream sequence I have ever seen which was truly bizarre. Why not just shorten the season than to show filler episodes like that? What are we going to watch when all the good shows go off the air? Will & Grace is still left but how many more episodes will they have? There had better be some decent pilots coming out this season. Reality TV has sucked me in too many times. I’ve been watching The Swan although I’m not really sure why. Of course with all that money you could look better. But once they’re done with all the surgeries, they’re still not gorgeous only better. Then The Bachelor is just a train wreck and it seems he’s down to the two best looking women anyway. Why do I even bother? I’ve given up on the Real World unless they can get some redeeming qualities.

Vegas was fun! We made it there without traffic and made it there in 4 hours. I love the Hard Rock! They have an awesome set up and a young crowd. Although the service is hit or miss the food at Nobu (sushi) was outstanding. Howard Stern was broadcasting earlier than he did last year (apparently so he could spend more time at the awesome pool) so we missed Tuesdays’ broadcast which was from 2-6 (we got there at 2 and they had already started). We tried standing in line but the guy said because of how many people already in there and how late it was getting that our chances were nonexistent to get in. The rooms are pretty basic but modern but the best part were the french doors that actually opened up to view the pool area (upgrade) with music or Howard broadcast. We didn’t even bother with the Strip this trip. We enjoyed the pool (in my new perfect Banana Republic bikini) for a little bit and were able to hear the audience play BANGO (Howard’s version of BINGO) – the prize is a “date” with a porn star, who we ended up seeing at the restaurant that night.

Wednesday we got up early to stand in line to get in for Howard. The front desk said they would start lining up at 11 so since it was only 8:30 we decided to get breakfast and get a head start on the line. By the time we got outside there were already 150 people in front of us (154 to be exact). Those who had been before were prepared with camping chairs and beer but since this was our first time we stood in the sun for 5 hours and I was in kitten heels and a skirt which only made it a little more irritating (especially on a windy day). Once we got inside we watched half of the show but weren’t able to get very close (you had to have really big boobs for that) and couldn’t hear or see very well. We got to see Rob & Amber on stage with the Wack Pack and got to see Tabitha Stevens (porn star), Miss Howard Stern (Andrea), High-pitch Eric, and Betteljuice up close on the way to the bar. It was a lot of fun but after standing for so long without bein able to hear very well we decided to retreat to the pool for a better view, sound, and drinks. Our last day there we didn’t even bother trying to wait in line for the show. We slept in, checked out, and laid out at the pool but while we were at the pool we saw Howard, Beth, Artie, and Ralph at their cabana and walking back to their room (heavy security so we couldn’t approach them). That made it worth the stay. We probably could have gotten closer to Artie and Bababooey (Gary) at Spearamint Rhino but figured there’d be a ton of people thinking the same thing so passed (that and the high cover charge). After hanging out at the pool and getting some drinks we got some Wendy’s and headed home. Since tanning memberships are so expensive out here I had my legs and arms positioned to get maximum exposure on the way home (ended up burning a little but have a good base tan). Oh how I miss the Sun Spot and Tan Your Hide. The trip home took a little longer because we hit downtown in the middle of rush hour.

Our next trip to Vegas will be at the end of July with Matt and Julie so there’s that to look forward to. At least we’re spreading the losing streak we’re having apart – doesn’t hurt so much tihs way.

Tomorrow our bedroom furnitiure is being delivered. That’ll be nice to have and will free up a lot of space. This is the first time we’ve had bedroom furniture so is quite exciting for us (yes we’re lame). Other than that this week the only other plans I have are to go with Megan to get new headshots and get nails put on. That is until Thursday when my parents get here. They’ll be here till June 1st so that’ll be nice to have some normalcy and get to spend time with them. It’ll be nice to have my shopping partner back. Although I haven’t been doing so bad without her this past week. There’s always much more to do. I’ve been spending too much money at Sephora, Express, Banana Repulic, Old Navy, Gap, and Abercrombie on 3rd Street. Need to go to the beach and Y more instead of the mall. But I’m a girl, what can you expect?! Maybe this was longer than I expected.

Loving it

I have to say that MusicBrainz is the BEST software EVER. I set it loose and all of my 12K or so MP3z and it is making smooth work of most of them. Now it can’t find everything, but it will sure make my job easier when most of them are tagged properly. I really should donate some money to the developers for making such a bitchin product. For those that don’t know what MusicBrainz it….. Its an application that creates a checksum of each MP3 that you have and compares it to the online database that they have and then returns the proper ID3 tag info, that you can write to the file. It uses some kind of acoustic fingerprinting to be able to scan the files at different bitrates and still come up with an accurate guess about what the song is. Its great.

We finally recieved our new 5.8GHz phone from Amazon, and wouldn’t you know it, but two of the 3 phone jacks in our apartment don’t work. It figures I guess, but for now we have phones in easy accessible locations. While I still don’t have one in the Computer Room/Office hopefully they can get the phone guy in sometime this week and get it fixed.

Kelly and I went to Fry’s on Friday and I picked up a new Netgear 108 Mbps Wireless Router and a PCI adapter for my desktop. So now we are completely wire free in our apartment, and believe me it is nice. I just hope that Apple will release an Atheros driver for Airport Extreme that can take advantage of the dual-channel 802.11g protocol so that I can get faster access between the desktop and the Powerbooks so that I can move large files easier.

Well I should have my XBox in hand on Thursday or so. Thanks to James. He is the XBox Master. He managed to get it working in no time at all, I guess all it took were the right tools. I can’t wait. I guess I will have to get a wireless adapter for it, or just drag a really long Cat-5 cable across the floor when I need to connect to it.

Yawn… I have to be in to work at 6 tomorrow because I have phone duty. Grrrrr I actually have to talk to people. Grrrrrrr. Oh well that just means that I get to get off at 3, and start my mini-vacation early. I’m just glad that I have more comp-time then PTO right now, so I can still have plenty of real vacation time for later. AND as soon as I start my damn flex-schedule I probably won’t use much PTO at all, I mean who would when you get a three day weekend EVERY weekend.

Almost time for Vegas…….

Counting Down

Only two official days of work until we go to Vegas. And tomorrow doesn’t really count. There is a all-employee meeting tomorrow on the beach somewhere in Marina Del Rey, with a catered BBQ lunch. Sweet. And then I have to come in on Monday, but then from Tuesday until the following Monday. Its going to cost me 4 days of comp-time but I don’t care I’m in desperate need of some time off. This job is draining me. There are 3 people here that have a clue about what is going on, so when those people are gone nothing gets done around here. So in two weeks myself and another one of the guys in the know, are going to be teaching a class on how to handle the day to day operations of this office. I’m not so sure it will do any good, the people that don’t do anything are people that have been here for years and years, and they just don’t choose to do anything, and since it is government service there is no chance of getting fired. It really must be nice to have that kind of job security. I need to get me some of that, but probably at a huge pay-cut.

I’ve really got the bug to build a new PC lately. I told myself that instead of spending 1000-1300 on a new PC I should get a G5, but I’m holding off on the that until the new processors get released, but there are a pantload of new games out for PC that I really want to play. Now my current machine is no slouch as it is, but with the new Radeon cards out now, and those Athlon 64’s calling my name I could potentially build a machine that would RULE. But I suppose I should just wait for Doom and Half Life to be released before I dive into it. Perhaps if I just buy a new monitor I would be happy. The 17in monitor that I have to play games on is killing me. It’s an old POS that I bought at a garage sale for 10 dollars. I wish that I still had my 21in beast (when it was working properly). Although I did see the Dell 20.1in FP on-sale the other day for 750. I should have picked that up when I had the chance.

I have to go get an office chair tonight for my desk. I was sitting on one of our barstools last night while I played a computer game, and now my back is kind of sore. We still need to get some shelves for the spare bedroom so that we can clean up the huge mess of stuff that is in there, I’m wondering how we managed to pack so much stuff into our old apartment and now that we have a whole extra bedroom we can’t find space to put anything. We also need to get some sort of bike rack so we can get the bike out of the way. I wonder if it would be possible to put a bike rack in the stairwell? Hmmmmmm.

Not much else I can think of right now, I have been digging through backup tapes for the last hour or so looking for someone’s .pst file that they accidentally deleted OVER A MONTH AGO. “Ummm yeah I deleted a file a month ago and I was wondering if you can get it back.” GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. But anyway…..

Casey OUT.

Loads of work.

Today was an extremely busy day. We were having some issues with computers not being able to find the domain this morning, and I assumed they were just machines that hadn’t been configured properly. It turns out that our primary domain controller had shit the bed. The AC went out in our server room over the weekend, well there are about 25 servers in our server room and combined with the fact that the AC went out……. I think we fried the single 10/100/1000 Fiber channel NIC that was in there. So it turns out that all of our DHCP scopes are set up on only one of our domain controllers so if a machine looses its lease on a IP it won’t be able to acquire a new one, thus not being able to connect to the network. ALSO one of our Exchange Nodes has been freaking out and using about 30-80 percent CPU utilization while idle. It turns out one of the four processors was a mismatched stepping so we had to pull it and then all was good.

Things have been going very well around the apartment lately. I finally ordered my new desk which should be here tomorrow, along with our new 5.8GHz phone system. So now we are just waiting on our bedroom furniture to be delivered from Z Gallerie and our new DVD rack (working on filling up our third one).

I’m getting excited about going to Vegas next week to watch Howard Stern. I just hope that we can curb our spending for a week or so, that way we can afford to have some fun. I can’t wait to sit out by the pool at the Hard Rock, or playing blackjack while in the pool and drinking a rum and coke. How sweet is that?

And just to be like loads of other bloggers……

Seacrest OUT.

New Toys

Today was an interesting day. When I arrived at work this morning the site supervisor brings me a cart full of goodies. I guess yesterday when he left work he went to CompUSA and PCClub and purchased over 1K worth of stuff, and part of it was a new Athlon 64 3200+ processor, mobo, case, and all the trimmings. So he hands me all of these parts and says “Here have fun…” We even had a Radeon 9800 All-In-Wonder laying around that I was able to throw into it. Unfortunately we didn’t have an extra copy of XP to put on it, so I opted for 2K since we have corporate licensing for that. It was still downloading updates when I left for the day. So tomorrow I can tweak it and maybe load some benchmarking tools to see what the thing is capable of.

I met my boss from DigitalNet for the first time today. She drove up from a town south of here, somewhere between here and San Diego. We sat down and discussed the job, and the future of it. And of me possibly teaching a class or giving a presentation at a conference in Scottsdale sometime near the beginning of summer.

There really hasn’t been much going on lately. We DID go and see a pretty bitching improv show on Melrose last weekend. But other then that we have just been sitting around watching Sopranos and trying to stick to the South Beach Diet. Pretty boring. Hopefully next week we will get our posters back from the framers and we can hang those up. And maybe my new desk will be delivered. I’m sick of sitting on the floor and playing computer games.

OK I’m off to cook dinner.
