Back to School

Back to school, back to school to prove to Dad that I’m not a fool. (I kill me.) As I’m sure you can imagine, school started yesterday. I’m taking 21 credit hours this week, while I try to get into a waitlisted class that I really want to get into. After either getting on the waitlist or not, I’ll be taking 18 credit hours. My week actually hasn’t been that bad yet. I’ve already had 15 credit hours in two days and the classes all seem fun. I actually wish I could take all 21 but I’d be paying out of pocket. Wonder if I should just go ahead and take them anyway and fork over the cash. Hmmm. Something to ponder by drop day on September 11th. I’m taking the following classes: Research Methods (marketing research/statistics, it’s a req.), Principles of Advertising (waitlist), Beginning TV Production, Nonverbal Communication, Writing for the Media, Directed Studio Performance, and Advanced TV Production. It is SO weird how many people in this town that I have met before. There have been a bunch of familiar faces in my classes, one girl I worked with at the Buckle 4 years ago, another guy went to dinner with everyone before prom in 1997, one girl was in an English class with me at PPCC 3 years ago, another guy I worked with at Taco Bell when I was 14, and the last guy I worked with at Wal-Mart (imagine that). I got out of all my classes early this week because it’s the first week and next week we don’t have Monday and Tuesday classes in observance of the Labor Day holiday. That may have an effect on how my classes go.

I had a longer break between my classes than usual because we got out early so I headed to Best Buy to pick up Animal House. I had a Reward Zone gift certificate and a coupon so it only cost $5.50. What a deal! I was hoping to stop by Jamba Juice to give me a little pick me up but didn’t have time. After class was over, I had a couple errands to run so went to Wal-Mart (which I hate) and the post office. Ran into Robyn and Rebekah at the post office. I don’t even know what was wrong with me, probably in a different state of mind having just been breathed on and had my personal space invaded by the nasty guy behind me in line, but it took me a sec to realize it was Robyn. Oops. Rebekah is SO cute, she even smiled for me several times. 🙂 That just made my day. I went to the gym alone (Mom’s having stress at work) today for the first time since I was in L.A. It wasn’t bad at all but I didn’t really want to push myself. I also went tanning since I’ve faded bad. I was so tired when I got home (probably from getting up so early and staying up so late) that I crashed on the couch for 3 hours. I just woke up an hour ago to make dinner since I haven’t eaten a real meal (other than oatmeal) since Sunday. Mmmm fajitas! Now I’m just sitting here watching Tin Cup and waiting for Casey to call.

Hi Ho Hi Ho its off to work I go.

Well back to work after my week off. Not looking forward to it at all, but the hours are always good, its just to bad that I have to fly tomorrow instead of Monday that way I could log some crazy hours. But if New York is anything like LA, I should have some decent overtime this coming week.

I bought some new Docs yesterday, some 10-eye steel toe monsters. I’m trying to break them in right now so they don’t hurt my feet.

We went to go see My Boss’s Daughter today, what a turd. Ashton is just pumping out drivel now to stay in the the theater all the time, or he just made this movie to get a chance to sleep with Tara Reid. It was funny in parts, but the acting was horrible.

I’m anxiously awaiting the release of the 15 inch Al Powerbook so I can get one come Oct. UCCS has a student Apple Store that has decent prices on Apple products, like 300 off a 15 and 17in Powerbook.

The preferred airline of the travel company that we use is American Airlines, but for some reason I never end up flying with them, tomorrow I’m flying United through Chicago, instead of flying American through St. Louis. I really wish I could get AA more because I get free upgrades to first class, which makes flying so much more enjoyable. &ltsnicker&gt

OK time for bed.

Happy Birthday Jim!!!

This is today’s post and last night’s together.

I fucking hate Adelphia! We’ve been without our cable modem for the last hour and the lights on the modem aren’t even lit up. Casey’s on the phone right now trying to get it taken care of. Ugh! He just got off the phone and we also found out our cable isn’t working. I’m so irritated.

We went to Best Buy today and picked up a bunch of DVDs and a game for Casey’s Game Boy Advance. There were a ton of great deals in the ads this week so we picked up the following: Chicago, Moulin Rouge, National Lampoon’s Vacation 20th anniversary edition, Truman Show, Dangerous Minds, and Bowling for Columbine.

I finished ordering all of our textbooks online last night. Between the two us there are 11 books we need for our combined 8 classes. They rape you on books especially at the bookstore but with all the books we need we’re still paying TOO much in my opinion even buying them online. Classes start Monday and I’m kinda excited to get started on them. Judging by the titles they all seem pretty cool and I’ll be taking 4 of my 6 classes with Marla so I’ll have some company.

I’m gonna start looking for a new doctor to go to. I don’t even actually go to my doctor anymore because he’s booked like 3 months or longer out. I’ve been going to the P.A. the last few years because he’s only booked like a few weeks to a month out. No matter who I go see I’m always there hours for what takes 10 minutes at most. I got there at 9:55 this morning and didn’t get to leave until 11:45. I sat in the waiting room and then in the exam room until 11:20 and then everything started happening. That’s just TOO much time. I wonder if that’ll be the motivation I need to actually look into to seeing another doctor. So I save up all of my stuff throughout the year, unless I’m super sick so I can get it all out of the way during the 10 minutes I’m seen. Now we have to head to Walgreens to pick up a bunch of stuff. Ugh.

We received 3 of our books in the mail today. Now Casey has the books he needs for the classes he starts on Monday and is only waiting for one more. Hopefully he’ll get that before Sunday when he leaves for New York City because I paid extra to get it early and I don’t want to mail it to him.

We’re heading out the door to go BBQ and celebrate Jim’s 41st birthday!

Not for the timid….

I have been seriously neglecting the website latley, I have just been farily busy.

I was in LA last week until Friday or so, but the company cut the trip short due to some poor planning on their part. So I will probably have to go back to LA next week when they get their shit together. And before that ,as you readers might know, I was in DC for 4 weeks. LA was really nice, the team we had got along well and we went out and had a nice dinner nearly every night, great sushi, some good greek food, and PF Changs. Now we can get PF Chang’s here in town but we had a feast at the one in Santa Monica……. mmmmmm… sweet and sour chicken. Unfortunatley Kelly had to cut her visit short also.

Kelly and I had to go through DVD Profiler today and fix all the broken records that had corrupted the database on my laptop. So now we are up to 415 DVDs. Here is a link to our online collection.

Jim’s birthday is tomorrow and we are going over to their house and cooking some T-Bones on the grill, Mmmmm cow. If you can’t tell I’m kinda hungry, good thing dinner is almost ready.

I know I had a lot more to say earlier but for some reason I’m at a loss for words right now. Sucks to be me I guess.

LA Vacation!!!

I left Colorado Springs and drove to my parents house so that Grandma & Grandpa could take me to D.I.A. shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday. I made it to L.A.X. without difficulty, check-in was quick and painless, they didn’t even check my baggage. I got to L.A. at 8:40 a.m. and quickly found the baggage claim and called Nicky. Nicky, Matt, and Joey picked me up and we headed back to their apartment in San Pedro to change clothes for the beach. We went to Torrance/Redondo Beach and had a great time in the sun and ocean. We had a late lunch at In-N-Out that was SO yummy. Thank God for protein style. 🙂 I took a much needed nap after the beach and waited at the hotel for Casey to get off of work. For dinner we drove down to the Third Street Promenade. Casey and I settled on some tasty Greek food at an outdoor cafe and then went shopping. I picked up a super cute cami from American Eagle and Casey got to check out the Apple Store. Third Street in Santa Monica is my new favorite street.

Yesterday, Nicky & Jason and the boys picked me up to go see the Walk of Fame, Graumann’s Chinese Theater, and the Kodak Theater (where the Academy Awards are held). After driving around for awhile, we finally found it and had a really good time getting lunch and walking around. I got some good pics and hope to get more next time we make it down there. They all had our trip to Hollywood a little short because they had church plans so I came back and took another nap. For dinner we went to the Sushi Lounge and for dessert had Starbucks. Since the hot tub closes at the Doubletree at 10 p.m. we were happy to make it back around 9 to enjoy it. Gotta love hotel amenities.

Unfortunatley, we didn’t see any celebrities while we were there. Although, I saw a guy that kinda looked like Martin Short at the airport and a Secret Service guy there too. Could it be that Air Force One landed there instead of in O.C.? Maybe…

On the way back from the Federal Building on Thursday, Casey and his group stopped at Best Buy and Casey picked up Will & Grace Season 1. They picked me up and we headed back to the Third Street Promenade in search of dinner. We walked down and then back up with nothing looking TOO intriguing and finally settled on PF Changs. It was SO much better than the last time Casey and I went and for dessert we went to the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. It was a good night and bittersweet since it would be our last night in L.A.

Casey found out Thursday afternoon that his trip was being cut short and that he would be leaving early. Unfortunately, we both ended up leaving yesterday to come home. I had to make a few phone calls but I managed to get the ride situation all worked out. Nicky and the boys took me to LAX and In-N-Out and Mom and Jim picked me up from DIA and took me to Baja Fresh. Sadly, I wasn’t able to make it Del Taco but will make a special trip to the one in Vegas in October! The plane ride to Denver was SO turbulent that the pilot couldn’t turn off the ‘fasten seat belt’ sign for more than like 15 minutes at a time. Out the window we could see Las Vegas (only 8 weeks now!!!) and the northern rim of the Grand Canyon. I managed to get an exit row on the way back but really should have asked for a complimentary first class upgrade. It had occurred to me while I was waiting but didn’t think it was going to be possible. But I was wrong cause a bunch of other people asked AND they pulled a couple of people from coach to first class to fill up the seats. 🙁 I’ll know for next time to ALWAYS ask. The guy next to me on the exit row was really nice and works for DirecTV in Englewood and offered a free system to me or anyone in my family and gave me his card. Even after boarding 30 minutes late we still made it back only a few minutes later than we were originally scheduled. We made it back to the Springs and then I hung out at my parents house until it was time to pick up Casey. We were both tired from flying and headed to bed pretty soon after getting home. It’s good to be in our own apartment but sad to have left L.A. It was a nice mini vacation!

I have to add that I have the smartest nephews…EVER. They are SO cute and smart. Joey sings his ABCs to himself in the car and his favorite shape is the trapezoid – a triangle with its head cut off. And Matt has WAY more knowledge than most 3 year olds and 4 and 5 years olds for that matter. He introduced me to everyone as “MY Aunt Kelly from Colorado.” It’s the sweetest thing. I’m so proud of them for being so smart AND poliet. Matt is the most poliet child I have ever encountered, he says “Excuse me, Mama. I have something to say.” Aw. I’m gonna miss them. But I’ll get to see everyone in October. Hopefully everyone’s trips are now booked.

I didn’t get the chance to take many pictures but I’ll upload them sometime this weekend. Stay tuned….

Just can’t wait to get on the road again.

….but not really

These weekends at home just aren’t long enough. I have to go get on a plane for LA in about 6 hours. BLEH. But the good thing is Kelly gets to follow me there on Tuesday.

I also found out that I have until tomorrow night to finish up the last couple of assignments that I have to do in Geography, so I’m going to try and knock those out sometime today. I have some laundry to try and get done here in a bit. Kelly is going to go and pick up a new suitcase at Target so we have enough luggage to carry all of our crap.

Dave brought over his old Cannondale bike that I’m thinking about buying, and we went on a ride over to Palmer Park. I was choking and wheezing after about 15 minutes. I think the 4 weeks in DC has got me all screwed up, plus not going to the gym in weeks is messing me up too, I was physically exhausted when we got back to the apartment. I told Dave to bring the bike back over on the weekend of the 22nd and we will try again.

I picked up a new Game Boy Advance SP the other day and I have been playing that like crazy, it will make those long boreing flights go by really fast. Luckily I have a first class seat from Salt Lake to LA this evening, so I will be nice and relaxed when I get to LAX, I should probably call my teammates and find out where I should meet them at so I don’t have to drop the cash on a cab.

I talked to Dallas last night, he managed to score around 1350 for his gaming computer, so he is looking to throw a new one together, he can’t seem to get the price below 1600 and some change, he is going to try and go the Raptor route like myself, plus he is going to score a Radeon 9800 Pro. His machine will RULE when he gets it together. I really need to read up on Windows XP Pro booting from RAID 0. I have heard conflicting stories about XPs ability to boot from a stripe set using the onboard RAID controller so before I score my own set of Raptors I need to check that out, because there is no sense in buying them if I can’t put my root (C:) on the set.

OK off to lauder some clothes, and work on homework until its time to leave.

Home again…

Sorry it has been so long since anyone has posted. As some of you can see Justin got his site back up so he won’t be posting on here to much anymore. Or until next summer rolls around again and he retires his site again.

I have been putting in crazy hours these last 4 weeks that I have been in DC. This last week alone I put in 48 hours of overtime. So that should make for a nice hefty check before to long. I’m currently at home right now but that won’t last long. I’m scheduled to leave for LA Monday afternoon. The good this is Kelly has decided that she wants to go too so she has purchased a ticket to come out there Tuesday morning, and stay to the following Tuesday (I think). So hopefully we can roll around and see the sites. I think that my team will also be going to New York following LA so it is going to be an expensive 4 weeks. I just got my expense report for my first 3 weeks in DC turned in so it will be another week or so before I see that cash back.

Another guy on my team lives in the Springs area and he brought his Game Boy Advance SP to work with him and I was playing it when we weren’t real busy (which was most of the time), now I’m addicted and thinking about going and picking one up today. It will really make my time on planes go by faster, and there are some really bitchin games for it including loads of Super Nintendo games. So I think since I can’t go and pick up the mountain bike that I am getting today we are going to go see a movie, maybe swing by Best Buy, and then perhpas go BBQ some chicken at Kelly’s folks house.

I’m really worried about my two classes that I was enrolled in this summer semester. These last 4 weeks have been really though to try and get stuff done and turned in. So I’m very anxious to see what my grades are going to be. I have to get at least a C in them or I have to pay back my MGIB money. Kelly enrolled me in two classes earlier today, a Math and English. She said the Math classes online are relatively easy, and the English classes are easier since you don’t have daily work but only papers to write. As long as they are nothing like my History class I had this semester then I will be fine.

I ordered a new 512MB stick of DDR for Kelly’s Powerbook last week or the week before, I forget. But anyway I installed it last night, and it made a world of difference. So now her Powerbook is maxed out as far as memory goes (640MB), until they release a 1GB SO-DIMM, but of course it will be like 400 bones when it first gets released. Kelly posted the old 128MB S0-DIMM on Amazon for 25 bucks. So if that sells it will make me happy.

And now for a rant. And this one is about cliques. Some of us ran into a clique at work these last few weeks. WE AREN’T IN HIGH SKOOL ANYMORE PEOPLE. I can’t believe people are still like this. Some of these people got away with not doing a damn thing all week because of who ya know. And I’m still extremely pissed that certain people were bumped from work by people THAT DON”T KNOW SHIT. Its all who ya know I guess, and it drives me crazy. I would really like to go into more detail but…. ya know. GRRRRRRRRR!!!Ahh I see a Matrix Reloaded DVD Screener is out now…..mmmmmmm widescreen.

Somehow I messed up our DVD Profiler database and now it isn’t showing all the movies that we have, so I think we are going to have to scrap the DB and rebuild it from scratch. That is a lot of UPCs to have to re-enter by hand. To bad they don’t make the CueCat anymore, cause I don’t want to drop the cash on a real USB barcode scanner. I think we are up to 408 or something like that, pretty soon we will beat Blockbuster. 🙂

Home for a day…..

Well it looks like I will get to go home on Friday. FOR ONE DAY. Then be flying back here to DC on Sunday for at least another week of work. But the plus side to that is that I will put in at least 60+ hours this week which is crazy overtime. $$$$$$. I will probably leave my suitcase either with Justin or someone else that is going to be here over the weekend. I also FINALLY got my paycheck from the work I did at Checks Unlimited, so I can order my Raptor drives soon.

I had to find a tattoo/ piercing shop today cause I had to buy a new hoop somehow I lost the end to one of my studs last night and was afraid it was going to fall out all day and let my piercing close up.

I’m going to start on my expense report right now Kelly told me that I only have about 1K left on the card I’m traveling on right now, so I need to get some of that money back, cause it sounds like I’m going to be traveling quite a bit now. I think Justin and I’s chances of becoming team leads for this Server deployment are becoming more and more slim. That doesn’t really bother me because I’m still pissed about the fact that some people on this project recieved a bonus for completeing the first portion of this contract, and our company just kept the bonus, and in fact our boss went to Vegas at about the same time this was supposed to happen……. hmmmmmmm. I swear our boss takes more “vacations” then anyone. Grrrrrrr.

Ok off to work on the expense report. Gimmie that money.

Weekend Updates

My last post was on Wednesday so on Thursday, I don’t even remember what I did so it can’t be that important. Friday I went to the ARC to pick up some more books to sell. I wrote down 109 ISBNs so I could check their going rate on Amazon as far as resell value. Well apparently they don’t always have the awesome deals that I’ve been getting. I’ve been getting paperbacks 4/$1 and hardbacks 2/$1, well now that they’ve ‘cleaned up all the books that they keep getting in’ it’s now paperbacks 2/$1 and hardbacks $1 each. So i get up to the counter with all my books and I’m like what the fuck and start telling the dumb bitch that I’m in there all the time and I normally get a better deal. Well that’s not going on right now. Fine. I buy all the books anyway and go through them when I get home and only 7 of the 25 were worth selling the rest were crap. I also checked through my list of 109 ISBNs and only wanted like 8 of them. After that whole ordeal, I went to the gym and worked my ass off. Today’s Sunday and my calves and thighs are still aching. Friday night Marla and I made plans to go see Tomb Raider 2. I went to the theater a couple of hours early (around 8 pm) to pick up tickets. There were NO parking spots. I drove around for like 10 minutes and finally just decided to go out and park across from Galyan’s in the new parking lot. The previous 2 shows before ours were sold out so we wanted to get there early. We planned on meeting a half hour before the movie started. I still had a bunch of time before the movie started (10:20) so I decided to go to Kohls and pick up this red Nintendo shirt that Casey saw before he left for DC but didn’t want to wait in line to buy. Marla had never been to Cinemark so I had to give her directions and it took her longer than she thought it would (this is the chick that can go from DIA to the Springs in 38 min. whoa!). While I was waiting outside Casey and I had our daily chat and Marla ended up being about 10 minutes later than our original meeting time. Well 20 minutes (or probably even the original 30) was clearly not early enough to be there since they put us in a small theater (genuises). The theater chicks were telling people as they came in that there were no seats together and we’d have to sit up front. Marla was ok with this but there is no way that I’m gonna sit up there and get a stiff neck from contorting myself to see the movie. I told her that I would start looking for a couple seats in the same row and just ask people to move down. I found 2 seats on the first row of the upper section and politely asked the guys to move down and they were quick to agree. So before and during the previews Marla recounted her trip to LA for me. Yeah she sucks! And yes I AM jealous! Movie was pretty good, there were some spots where they got to carried away with the CGI. Long movie and didn’t get out till around 12:30, I guess not THAT long but it was kinda late.

Saturday, I met my parents at Old Chicago’s for lunch. I had a yummy salad and the toppings off a pizza (still not eating wheat and maintaining my weight loss!). We then headed up to Audio Visionaries so Jim could play some chapters from DVDs and test the speakers that he’s thinking about getting. Everything sounds SO good. It’s a shame they don’t carry the 65″ TV he’s getting so we could get the full effect. But I guess we’ll get that soon enough. Afterwards, since the proximity was so close to Cold Stone we headed over there for a tasty treat. Gotta love the fat-free yogurt! I then headed down to the ARC to return the books that I didn’t want and the guy was a dick about the whole thing. Well, I got what I wanted and even picked up the 8 books that I knew would sell. I’ve even managed to sell 2 of the books I bought this weekend already! Things are still pretty slow but I’m hoping with the school year starting back up again, sales will increase.

I stayed at home today and enjoyed the brief reprieve from the HOT weather. I caught up on some cleaning and was forced to watch a bunch of movies because fucking Adelphia can’t seem to get their service to work. Ugh! So after being on hold with 2 different dipshits, they concurred that it was my laptop that was messed up probably because I was using OSX and they were looking into it. I finally told the guy after he told me this, that it was fine and I would just get my husband to fix it because he’d KNOW what to do and I was right. I HATE Adelphia but can’t afford/too much hassle to go the route of Kevin & Rachel. Guess I’ll just have to grin and bear it. Off to bed now, 3 more days of class left.
