Lunch with Dad (Papa)

My dad treated Brady and I to lunch today at Nawlins. We shared the swamp platter which had a little bit of everything. Shellfish is not recommended for infants until 18-24 months so I didn’t offer any of the soft shell crab, hushpuppies (they had jalapenos in them), or frog legs (but only because it would have been too difficult to pull off the bone while holding her). She did have her first tastes (lots) of gator and catfish and loved it! I am really hoping I don’t have a picky eater on my hands. I want to get her started on all the foods that Casey and I eat. I realize everyone is picky in some way and there are foods that everyone would prefer not to eat but I’m hoping with giving her tastes of lots of different things she’ll be exposed to a lot and reject very little. Our friends, Kevin and Adele, exposed their daughter to sushi very early and now she eats things (sea urchin) that I won’t eat. I really do hope that Brady can follow this example and be a lover of sushi from an early age!

10 Months

Brady is 10 months old today! I’ve been thinking she’s going through a growth spurt and it looks like scale is confirming it. As of 9/28 at her 9 month appointment she was 18 pounds 5 ounces and as of two days ok she was 19 pounds 2 ounces! Her appetite has been noticeably bigger and she consistently will eat a whole container (4 oz) of yogurt mixed with cereal! She especially loves real food right now and has been getting tastes of all kinds of new stuff lately. I’m still working on the cup with her and she can drink out of it but it isn’t her favorite. She’s also intermittently started clapping! Still no crawling but she has started trying to get up on her knees more and will roll or scoot all over the place. Happy 10 month birthday baby!

Flu Shots

We found out at Brady’s last appointment that infant’s receive their flu shot in two doses, at least 30 days apart from each other. Brady received her first dose at her last visit and when I called to schedule her second dose, not only was she not on the waiting list (and I mentioned the prematurity thing too but it didn’t help), but they are out of it and won’t be getting any more in until November some time. Not only that, but the H1N1 clinic that I was going to take her to at the county health department (even despite all of the sick people there exposing her to who knows what) didn’t receive enough doses of the vaccine either and it’s unknown when there will be more. Tomorrow I need to call the pediatrician she’s going to go to in Austin and see if I can get her in for the 2nd dose of her flu shot there. I saw today that Texas has already received almost 1 million doses of H1N1 but for some reason Brady isn’t considered in the high priority group. I’m agitated that a child’s life doesn’t seem valuable until the age of 2 or warrant receiving a vaccine that could prevent hospitalizations or even death. Oh, and I also asked at Brady’s last appointment if she’d be getting Synagis (RSV) shots again this season and I guess insurance companies are super strict about giving those out and since Brady has no health problems/complications it’s pretty definite that insurance won’t cover the shots. So hopefully we can avoid any more plane rides, being around sick people, and arm ourselves with soap, sanitizer, and vitamins (hidden for Brady). The only positive thing I can say regarding flu shots, is that Casey, my dad, and I all managed to get ours at Walgreens before they started running out (my mom got hers from work) so I’m hoping I can pass along some of my antibodies in my milk.

They did it again!

The Broncos just keep going on their winning streak and are now 6-0! Only two other teams in the league share this honor right now. Hopefully the bye week next week doesn’t slow down their momentum.

Take Two

Last Tuesday Brady I flew back down to Austin in an attempt to try and find a house again.  It’s definitely not an easy task flying with a baby.  Especially when all 4 top teeth have broken partially or all the way through her gums.  Couple that with flying during flu season and it’s just exhausting.  This time I made the smart move and paid to check my bag on both sides so it was just Brady and the diaper bag to deal with.  Again Brady did surprisingly well.  In order to save $200 on the ticket (and get it for 1/3 of the price of my last one), we had to leave Austin at 6:20am.  Not fun, especially when most people on the plane were hoping to sleep.  Brady slept for maybe 45 minutes of the 1 hour and 50 minute flight.  I can understand she’s not used to being up that early and traveling and everything else it just makes me feel stressed and helpless when she cries.

Casey worked 2nd/3rd shift while we were there.  I write 2/3 because he was slowly trying to ease off the 10p-8a shift but it was still a completely different schedule than Brady and I were on which was disappointing.  Wednesdsay, I went and saw six more houses and told Casey that out of everything we had seen I could narrow it down to three.  After some talk we narrowed it down to two, and by the next day it was down to one.  After some negotiating, we finally had an executed contract on Friday.  We were stressed and apprehensive all weekend  because we found out the builder was not VA approved – meaning if the VA doesn’t approve the builder, they won’t loan money to buy a house.  As of this morning, the builder gained their VA approval status and things are moving along.  Because of all the first time home buyers taking advantage of the tax credit, VA closings are 45 days out right now.  This makes things a little difficult considering the movers are supposed to be delivering our stuff the first week of November.  Fortunately, we’ve reached a deal with the builder to lease until we close.  Hopefully, things work out with inspections this week and everything going according to plan.  It’s all been a very stressful week and the closer it gets to time, the more anxiety and stress I feel hopefully it’ll all calm soon!

We were lucky enough to attend Jude’s 1st birthday party on Saturday!  Robin planned a really cute cowboy theme party and we met a lot of really nice people that I’m sure we’ll start seeing more of once we’re in Austin.

Look at all those teeth on page 2!

Back to San Antonio

Rackspace – Week 5? Something like that. Just wrapped up my week of 2/3rd shift and now it looks like I need to do the commute back down to San Antonio or a week or two while we deploy a SharePoint environment.

In other news we are hoping that this week we can get things on our new house wrapped up. There is some back and forth with the builder right now, but hopefully he will come to his senses and just sign the deal already.

Need to find some food.

Tired

Casey’s working third shift again tonight, Brady’s sleeping but starting to stir, and I’m trying to get a post in before the day is over. I’m going to be a little non-descriptive for security reasons but will write in more detail soon. For now it’s been a long day and Brady and I will be doing a lot of driving in the morning so goodnight.

#27

Me and my girl tonight for my birthday dinner!  It was a good dinner but would have been even better if Casey had been here too.
