Theme

I had Casey change the layout on the page from the Santa Claus.  I figure this is a little more sophisticated, although we don’t even pretend to be that, but a little easier on the eyes.  I went to Target today since they were having a sale (not that I don’t go there when they’re not having sales) and bought a new tree skirt, stockings, and holders for the 4 of us.  Hopefully, *sometime* this weekend I can get Casey to help me get the tree up so I’ll take pics when I do.

I finally got all of the photos from the trip that I want to post put into a folder, now is just the process of uploading them and I promise that’ll happen this weekend too!

Xbox Live!

Here is Kelly and I’s gamer tag for Xbox Live for those of you that play. I’m not quite certain what this does, or how it works, but I’m fairly sure its magic.

Upgrade!

So I started to upgrade the WordPress backend to the website this morning, but got sidetracked with real work.  I finished it up and reactivated all of the plugins so things should be working again.

Is it Spring yet?

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2lrvoWqZic]

Took this quick clip of the Atlantic Ocean while on the beach in Punta Cana. Kinda wishing I was sitting there right now as its 21 degrees and cloudy right now. Hopefully when the sun comes up it will clear right up. I’m just sitting here waiting for coffee to finish up, and for James to wake up so we can start building some servers. Perhaps today we can get a good head start on next weeks activities.

James and Nicole let us borrow GH2 and an extra wired guitar last night so I’m teaching myself to play on Medium difficultly. Gonna take me a bit to get proficient at it, but I will get there.

Today I imagine, Kelly will begin putting up our Christmas tree. She put some lights on the porch outside last night that look really good, and she put up a few decorations in the house. Maybe I will look for a wintery theme for our blog today, spice things up a bit.

EDIT:  Ok found a new theme, very appropriate for the season, enjoy.

Girls with Guitars

I went to six different stores yesterday (and Casey went to another three) looking for the wireless Guitar Hero 3 bundle.  While we already have one we wanted another wireless guitar and the wireless guitar alone doesn’t release until February.  I looked online when I got home because sets were available on Amazon before we left for Punta Cana and now everything is sold out and people are trying to ask outrageous amounts for them on eBay and Amazon Marketplace.  My theory is that a ton of parents went out shopping this past week and bought all of the wireless sets in town and now there’s nothing.  So I think I’m going to take Nicole up on her offer and just borrow one of her wired guitars while we wait.  It’ll probably actually be a relief playing with a wired controller from Guitar Hero 2 because they were a lot lighter and more Kelly-friendly.  The new guitar seems substantially heavier and I guess my new positioning to accommodate the added weight sometimes hurts my shoulder.

I still haven’t gotten around to uploading pictures from our trip but when I do I’ll set some time aside to make a proper post about the wedding festivities.

Everyday…(NSFW)

Every Day Normal Guy Rap Song – Watch more free videos

Or at least turn your volume down low if you are at work.

James made it in yesterday and we ended up going to Chili’s when he made it back from his class. Played some Guitar Hero 3, drank a beer, went to sleep. Hopefully later today Kelly will be borrowing an extra wired GH controller, and maybe a copy of GH2 for us to play around on. Not much going on thus far today, we need to decide if we are going into the office, but the servers we need to begin working on won’t be racked and cabled until at least lunchtime today, so perhaps no sense in going in.

Stoli loves James so much she got up with me this morning and was waiting by the door to the bedroom to run around the house and find him. Luckily the spare bedroom door was closed otherwise he would have had a fat bulldog in his lap. It took some convincing and a cookie to get her back in bed.

I finally started watching Heroes yesterday, I made it through about 10 minutes of the first episode then got sidetracked, then 2 hours later made it through 20 more, perhaps today I can get through the other 30 minutes.

Its a bit of a drive. But we have been known to load up the family truckster from time to time. Now I just need to figure out how to tether my Blackberry / iPaq to my laptop for complete mobile freedom.

The only way to travel.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5OmalHgi_c]

Snapped this quick video of a tour / party bus arriving at our resort.  Yes that is a thatched roof on the bus.  Yes that is Bob Marley blasting from the bus.  And Yes that is a big shark painted on the side.  Now if only school buses were this much fun when I was forced to ride them.  May have made the horrendous trips all the more exciting.

back!

We have successfully traversed the US Customs / TSA labyrinth set forth between this country and others and have escaped alive.  Its going to be a busy week so I will update as we have time.  I have made a pledge of at least 15 new posts in the coming month and I aim to keep it.

We took roughly 450 pics while in the Dominican Republic and a few videos.  The photos still need some color correcting etc, but the videos I will upload to YouTube and post as soon as I can.  We had a great time in DR, and want to thank Justin and Robin for letting us be a part of it.  It was also a well timed vacation for Kelly and I to escape the cold weather that we have been having here in Colorado, and a nice relaxing week away from work.

A helpful tip for those that live in cold climates, DO NOT turn off your heating while on vacation when the average  temperature in your area is less then comfortable.  Kelly and I arrived last night at nearly 2am to a house that was 43 degrees.  While a little colder then I like personally, it does take a toll on house plants.  Luckily we stopped and picked up the dogs on the way by Kelly’s folks house so they kept us warm.

On a side note, James should be arriving today for two fun filled weeks of work work work.  James and I will be primarily responsible for standing up a new customer environment  within the next two weeks to include a full Microsoft Exchange deployment.  Wish us luck because it may be a difficult task to accomplish in a short amount of time.

Sick Puppy

Well not really.  Dude’s had this spot the size of a silver dollar on his back for 3-4 weeks now.  The hair has all fallen out and you can see his skin is pink.  It doesn’t seem to be bothering him or itchy or anything but it just didn’t look good so after trying hydro coritzone cream on it for four days, I made a vet appointment.  Before we went in, I diagnosed him with mange thanks to the help of Google and that’s what it ended up being.  Dude has the better of the two types of mange, the other is much worse and is sometimes referred to as scabies.  The good news with this is that there is no risk for internal problems because of the mange.  Poor little guy had to get his skin scraped because the mite attaches itself to the hair follicle and there’s no other way to see it but under a microscope.  He now has some scabs and a bruise around the area that they scraped.  Apparently its pretty common in puppies under the age of 18 months and it usually goes away on its own by the time they reach this age unless there is a serious immunological deficiency.  But being the worried mom I am, I opted to give him the oral meds (Ivermectin, a drug approved for reducing mange in cattle) once a day for 2-4 months.  I’ve never dealt with a dog that had mange before but I asked if dips would be a better, cheaper and less invasive, alternative.  The vet said that he wouldn’t give his dog dips and that’s a very time consuming, messy, ineffective in a lot of cases, not to mention toxic process.  Before letting us go, the vet wanted to ensure that Dude hadn’t gotten heartworms because the medication would interfere with treatment of the heartworms.  The test didn’t come back till the following day at which point we could start the medication.   The boy that eats tree bark, mulch, and dirt *hates* the taste of the medicine but I think he’s really enjoying getting an extra treat to rid the taste from his mouth.  Mange is not contagious to humans or to Stoli so everyone’s still sleeping in our bed.  We’re up to 100 pounds of bulldog (Stoli is 57 pounds, Dude is 43.6 pounds).  I’m really praying this goes away on its own, but the vet said without the medication he could lose a lot more hair in the meantime since he’s only 5.5 months right now.

Many of you have heard about my newfound annoyance (dare I say hatred) for Expedia.  I booked our reservations for our upcoming trip to the Dominican Republic back in June.   Since that time Expedia has written us with changes to our departure on more than six occasions.  While the delays in there of only a few minutes don’t bother me, they sent a schedule change “from Delta” where we would have left Denver five hours later than we were originally supposed to making us miss our connecting flight from Atlanta to the Dominican Republic.  Instead of offering me the original flight (red eye with only a four hour layover) that I was on (I have since found out that the flight wasn’t canceled only the number changed and my theory is there’s some kind of system in place where it automatically reschedules you when a flight number is changed because their system sees it as canceled), Expedia called Delta and had us scheduled to leave the night before we wanted to get our connecting flight to the Dominican Republic leaving us with a THIRTEEN HOUR layover.  I’ve been fuming about this for months now (they did this in August) so I finally called up Expedia to see what could be done.  The customer service rep was worthless and did nothing to calm me or try to fix the problem.  I told her I saw that the original time table that I was supposed to be flying on was still available just under a different flight number and could she switch me back to the original time.  She said she could but that it would be $100 per person to change it.  I was really getting pissed then and I said you’re going to charge me $200 to fly on the flight that I originally booked and paid for and she said yes.  I asked if Expedia planned on compensating me for a hotel since we would be in Atlanta over night on a THIRTEEN HOUR layover and she said they don’t do things like that.  I finally got so fed up with her inability or unwillingness to do anything and called Delta directly (which in hindsight is what I should have done from the get go and saved myself a lot of stress but I thought since I booked through Expedia I had to use them as the go-to for everything).  I called Delta explained my situation to a very understanding and helpful guy and he changed our flight information and immediately sent me a confirmation email.  When I asked if I was going to be charged for the changes, he said no, do you want to be charged?  I can’t explain how grateful and relieved I am that contacting Delta was such an easy process and the agents were so eager to gain customer satisfaction.

We’ve been attempting to carry-on our luggage a lot more lately because waiting at baggage claim is such a nightmare.  If your luggage isn’t lost, you still have to wait an ungodly amount of time before you get it and that’s just not something that we’re eager to do.  So, last week I ordered new 22″ expandable carry-on suitcases and a set of medium and large packing cubes.  Now I had never even heard of packing cubes until Joe came out last month.  These things are awesome!  I could see he was able to pack a lot of stuff into his carry-on but he’s a guy so I was eager to put the cubes to the test – packing my stuff.  Not only did everything that I wanted to bring fit into the suitcase with the help of the cubes, I was also able to add even more stuff because there was still room!  I’m a total convert now and at first couldn’t fathom trying to only bring two carry-ons to Europe but now am hoping that when we go to Europe everything will fit quite nicely in carry-ons since it’ll be summer clothes and thus less bulky.  Even better would be if all the clothes could fit in one suitcase and we could use the other one for souvenirs – knives and steins!
