I hate this site!!!!!!

I just don’t like updating anymore. I’m to lazy to write anything down.

But I will take a shot at it……….

Matt and Julie came out about a week ago or something like that. We had a great time going to Seal Beach, and with the hurricane off the coast of Baja it made for the biggest waves I have seen since moving to California. But unfortunately Matt and Julie were only staying the weekend and they had to head back on Labor Day.

I started a new project at work designing a network to access the data on other local agencies networks. Its a fairly high profile project and its gotten the attention of the Program Manager for the shop that i work in, he asked me if my contract has a non-compete agreement with them. Wink Wink. So that got my hopes up that I could possibly have a steady job once this contract is over, but ya never know.

Today Kelly and I got up early and made our way to Manhattan beach for a few hours, got a bit more sun and did some swimming, the water was very warm and just being out there floating over the waves made me want to get a boogie board (note: skinny guys surf, taters like myself boogie board).

I talked to Justin yesterday before we went to the gym and he said that he is considering flying out here from Arizona some weekend soon. Apparently airfare is only gonna be about 130 bones or something like that.

I probably had more to say, but I’ve lost interest now.

Labor Day weekend

Matt & Julie arrived yesterday to LAX amid the chaos of the “explosions” and “security breaches”. What should have been a quick drive down there turned into an hour and a half ordeal with them finally walking all the way from the terminal and coincindentally ending up where we were stopped at a light (this wasn’t planned because we didn’t know where traffic was getting rerouted to and don’t know the area well enough to plan something around there). It is comforting to know that the city of Los Angeles has all of their emergency services erring on the side of overly cautious in case something disasterous were to happen.

We had lunch at the Greek Grille on Third Street and then walked down to the beach to take some pictures. After that we headed home where just sat and chilled – talking, playing with the macs, and a heated game of Battle of the Sexes (well it started out that way but when neither team is making much progress, frustration ensues). For dinner we BBQ’d on the roof a tasty dinner, which has caused Casey and I each to gain a couple of pounds. 🙁 Starting tomorrow no more beer for us. I’ll stick to wine thank you.

Today we’re going to Seal Beach to hang out and get lunch at the Seaside Grill. I know where we’ll be first thing tomorrow (after the airport, of course)…the gym working all this evilness off. Hopefully more to post later with Dave Matthews concert and Labor Day weekend pix.

News and such

Let’s see where do I begin?! Since even Nicky is posting more than we are. 😉

Wednesday I had my advising appointment with the people at CSU. I’m guaranteed admision for the spring semester it’s just this requirement to see if you are able to handle taking classes online, etc. I found out that for the program I’m going to be taking I have to take 3 additional undergraduate general classes (not CORE but for this particular program) so it works out that I can take them online through the Colorado Community College Online system this semester (starting yesterday) and I won’t default on my loans and get these out of the way. I’m going to school 3/4 time right now which is cake considering my 21 credits last fall, even though these classes won’t be as much fun. I’m taking HIS 202 (post Civil War to present), Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. Eck. But soon I’ll have a degree, well another one. I’m just glad I found an online degree program.

Saturday we had a BBQ at our house which was a lot of fun since our grill was finally working. Megan, Jason, Amanda and Mocha (they’re Megan’s friends) came over and we grilled out on the roof and drank a lot of beer in the sun before driving down to the Dave Matthews concert. We tailgated (aka stood in the parking lot around our cars drinking beer, there was no tailgate) while Jem (not the cartoon) was on but made it inside to see Ben Harper who was actually really good and I’m surprised I’d only heard one song by him before. Dave Matthews was great as I suspected he would be. I was disappointed that he played mostly stuff off of his new album (aka all the tracks off of that album that I don’t know) and the old stuff didn’t include two of my favorites (Crush and One Sweet World). Great concert, great friends, good times. (I’ll let Casey elaborate on after the concert if he feels so inclined.

Sunday we sat around the apartment and watched Nip/Tuck season 1. We still have 4 episodes left but didn’t have those downloaded. It’s actually a really good show, I wasn’t expecting it to be so graphic or encompass so much in an episode but it’s very enjoyable.

Yesterday was Jen’s last day in L.A. so we went to the cafe at Fred Segal for lunch. She was hoping for a star sighting before returning to North Carolina but no such luck. I took her to the beach and Third Street since she had never gone to Third Street and hadn’t been to the beach this year at all. We had a nice afternoon and I’m sad to see her go back home. I’ve lost my shopping buddy. Ahem, message to Megan – you’re now in line to fill this role! 😉

I got my new Dyson vacuum in the mail yesterday. It’s the yellow and chrome one, I’m sure you guys have seen the commercial or the episode of Friends (10th season) where Monica is vacuuming off her Dyson with one of the attachments. I got a really good deal on it because I bought it refurbished (still with warranty) from Amazon. It arrived but one of the main pieces was bent so I called Dyson and I must say they have great customer service – they’re sending out a new piece tomorrow, no questions asked. I’m such a geek – I can’t wait to vacuum.

Last night, Megan and Jason came over to hang out. Megan and I sat around, drank wine and talked while watching Casey and Jason play XBox. I have the suspicion that Jason wanted to sleepover. 😉

The owner of our buildings’ assistant, Monica, called called to ask if I would be interested in being the building manager and making the appropriate calls if things needed to be fixed (calling people, not doing it myself) and little things that needed to be done like making sure the door was locked or fielding minor complaints. Easy job and they’re gonna just deduct money from our rent so it should be a pretty cool job.

I’ll post pictures (if any of them turned out) later. Stay tuned.

For Justin

Sorry for the lack of posts. But everyone says that. We were on a kick there for awhile and just need to get back into it. Let’s hope this is the post that kicks it all off!

USA Basketball RULEZ!!

How much does the US Olympic basketball team suck? The “Dream Team” as they like to be called once had an amazing record, something lke 100+ wins and only a couple of losses. But now we send in second rate team because we are over confident, I was almost happy that we lost to Lithuania (sp), hopefully in 4 years the US will pull their heads out of their asses and send a REAL basketball team. I’m just so pissed off every time I think about it.

MusicBrainz AGAIN

Well the MusicBrainz client for OS X is finally mature enough to use. So for those of you still reading this site and running OS X 10.3 download iEatBrainz here. And for those that have no idea what I’m talking about MusicBrainz is an application that created a digital fingerprint of music files and tries to match them to a database, once the match is found it pulls the correct ID3 information for the file and renames the file for you. So for people with large music collections this is a essential app.

So all this week my life has been nothing but gym, work, gym, dinner, sleep. Well almost that pattern, its really hard to get the motivation to get up in the morning and go to the gym at 6 in the morning, but we managed a couple of times this week, and the results are already showing. Since I’m concerned about my cholesterol we have revamped our diet again, so once again we are back on tons of veggies, lean meats, low-fat foods. And since my target weight is 190 right now this is a great thing, i will probably be sub-200 by early next week. I figure if I can do around 10 hours of gym time a week I will not only loose weight but it should drop my cholesterol level quite a bit. And since I just sit on the bike and read (and sweat) I should be able to study for 70-216 ( which by the way I got the book for and its nearly 1000 pages… Yikes!!!).

I have converted TWO people to the dark side (Apple Computers) this month alone. Apple really should give referral bonuses, Matt & Julie picked up a 12in Powerbook, and this gal Lorrie at work picked up the new 15in Powerbook loaded with the 128MB 9700 and 1GB or RAM. I was messing around in the office yesterday and I realized that I could have 4 working desktop computers if I took the time to put them together, plus I want to build a new one….sheesh. I’m still waiting for Shuttle to officially release their new model of barebones micro systems. It should support RAID 0, PCI Express X16 and loads of other geeky goodness. Then what to do with my aging gaming tower machine. Its way to loud for everyday use……………….

Kelly and I just got back from the gym a short time ago, and now we are preparing to go over to Chili’s for a Buffalo Chicken Salad (not quite healthy, but VERY tasty) and then to Beverly Hills to look for some office shelves. Maybe we will go check out a movie or something this afternoon. There are so many movies out that we haven’t seen yet: Bourne, AvP, Hero (it did just come out yesterday), White Chicks. 🙂

Ok I really don’t know anything else right now, other then the fact that I’m starving. MUST EAT……..

Stars, Movies, Agents

Yesterday Jen and I had a girls’ day out. First we went to lunch at the Newsroom which is like an Elephant Grill or Chili’s with really yummy food and drinks AND is right across from The Ivy (THE restaurant for stars to dine). We didn’t see anyone there but we were shopping in American Apparel and Rhea Pearlman (Carla from Cheers and Danny De Vito’s wife) was looking at clothes right next to me. Then I did Jen’s hair and makeup for her modeling headshots. It was such a fun day!

We started shooting ‘Garbage Ties’, the student film I’m doing on Saturday. I don’t think this is going to be something I’m going to want people watching. There were several things wrong with this picture that him being a junior as a film major should know, especially going to Loyola Marymount. He has all of these resources at his fingertips and could make a really good movie (well as good as it can get for the script) and he’s not doing it. We were there for 6 hours, the battery died I don’t know how many times, he didn’t check out a boom mic or a lighting kit, and we had to buy our own food and drinks. Well I’m only using it for the resume experience – not that it’s gonna do me a lot of good but I feel bad for the guy. I’ll keep you updated on the drama that unfolds. Apparently we have several more Saturdays we’ll be shooting.

I’m really goona send off the contract for my commerical agent tomorrow. There’s also 2 other agencies that have contacted me in the last week – one that is primarily commercial and *maybe* theatrical and the other I don’t know. I have to attend an open call. Well I obviously don’t need commercial anymore so I’m not gonna go see them for the hell of it. But I’m happy to be getting such good results!

I’ve been working a lot at Geddes and between that and acting, have very little spare time. I’m really looking forward to the Dave Matthews concert so I can take a much needed break!

A bunch of crap

I received this link to a story about some crazyness on a US airline a few weeks ago. It sounds scary, but it turns out its just a bunch of CRAP!!!!. Here is a piece of information that I read today, from a good source.

“Apparently there was some disinformation being discussed about a recent incident at LAX. I have been asked to clarify what happened during the situation. The following are the basic facts concerning Northwest Flight 327:

On June 29, 2004, a group of Syrian musicians were reported to have acted suspiciously aboard Northwest Airlines Flight 327, a flight from Detroit, Michigan to Los Angeles, California. There were 12 musicians and one booking agent who had entered the country approximately 30 days prior to the flight. They came to the U.S. on an Entertainment type visa which is good for a set amount of days.

Also on this flight was a news reporter/journalist named Anne Jacobsen who was flying with her husband. During the flight this journalist claimed the Syrians were acting suspiciously. This included making “eye contact” and carrying a “suspicous” looking McDonald’s paper bag. Supposedly they were also going in and out of the lavatory several times. In addition, the Syrians allegedly did not sit down when approaching LAX and the flight attendants had to tell them to sit down repeatedly. Jacobsen advised a flight attendant of her concerns and she was told the situation was being taken care of. There were two federal air marshals (FAM) aboard the flight as well. None of them observed any suspicious activity.

Once the flight landed the Department of Airport Police, LAPD, and the FBI responded. The FAM spoke with Jacobsen and her husband and got their side of the story. Meanwhile the FBI and another FAM interviewed the booking agent and one of the Syrians who was acting the most suspicious according to Jacobsen. It was determined the Syrians were here to conduct a few concerts and would be leaving within a few days. At the time the visas appeared to be expired but it was determined later that they were not and that the individuals were all here legally. The group played a concert in Southern California and then flew to New Jersey. They all left the country on July 10, 2004.

The journalist Jacobsen has taken what was a non-issue and fooled the media into believing she has discovered this glaring weakness in airport security. The flight attendants, the FAMs, and the pilots were all interviewed following this “incident”. None of them had any concerns about the actions of the Syrians. In fact two flight attendants advised what Jacobsen said could not have happened. But some people refuse to let facts get in the way of a good story. The media has not done their job by researching the incident.

Anyway, apparently there are some people who have raised their own concerns about what to do should an incident like this occur on a flight they are on. First of all let me repeat that nothing happened on this particular flight. In the meantime use your common sense, report anything you deem suspicious to a flight attendant, and don’t interject yourself into a situation unless asked or there is an obvious “situation” which needs to be addressed. There may be armed FAMs aboard your flight. Remember it is the pilot who rules the ship and what he/she wants goes. The flight attendants are not there to be waiters and waitresses. There first mission is the safety of the passengers and crew. Use them as your conduit to convey your concerns.

I hope this helps those people who had questions.”

On a lighter note, I finally ordered our new camera, I changed my mind at the last minute and bought the Canon Powershot S500 instead of the Canon SD10 or the Nikon SLR, but I love our little Canon that we have now and wanted to stay with the same form-factor. So hopefully that will be here on Monday or so.

After work yesterday I went home and inserted the correct MAC address into my router’s ACL. As soon as the router rebooted the Airport Express came right up and then I was piping iTunes through the stereo wirelessly. Print Center found the printer through Rendevous and I printed out a test page and it worked flawlessly. What a great purchase.

Keep it on the low-down

Well its official I have high cholesterol. I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow to go over my test results. I suppose its a good thing I’m trying to bring my weight down to 190 soon. Justin and I have made a bet that the first person to 190 pounds gets the Star Trek: TNG season of their choice on DVD. We have to get there by diet and excercise, no starvation or surgery. 🙂

I recieved my Airport Express in the mail today, and attempted to hook it up before I had to come back to work from lunch, but I put the wrong MAC address into the ACL of my router, so when I get home I have to change to the wireless MAC address and not the ethernet address then it should be good to go. I should also recieve my book from Amazon so I can start studying for 70-216. I would really like to have my MCSA by the end of next month.

OK back to work.
