Food

Brady is doing much better eating solid foods than she was earlier in the month. I think at first giving her solids *and* on a spoon was just too much new at one time. For about a week I was giving her two meals a day on my finger just so she’d eat the food and on something she was more familiar with in her mouth.

We bought a food processor with the hope that Brady would eat more, we’d know exactly what she was eating and how fresh it was, and we could save money in the process. So far, it’s been an epic fail. I’ve made zucchini (she started gagging right away and then threw it up on two different occasions after only a few spoonfuls), plums (I think they may have been too tart?), and chicken (she started viciously rubbing her eyes and then her face started turning red). I’m pretty sure she’s not sensitive to chicken, as her favorite jarred food is apples & chicken. I did make her some peaches today and gave her some and she did well without that even though I thought it was still a little bitter.

Like I said, Brady’s eating two solid food meals a day. Around 10 or 11 in the morning she eats oatmeal (sometimes mixed with fruit). I’m relieved that she’ll eat oatmeal especially since she was so hesitant to eat rice cereal. Now she refuses to eat rice cereal altogether and I have to agree with her, it’s pretty bad. And bland at the same time. Then around 5 she eats again, usually a vegetable or chicken & apples. We have to wait 4 days before offering her a new flavor to help identify allergies/intolerance more easily. Her newest flavor we’re trying as of last night is harvest vegetables and whole wheat pasta. So far, so good. She seems to enjoy it so it looks like it’ll be headed into the rotation. For now, I’m going to keep offering homemade baby foods but if she ends up preferring the jarred kind, that’s fine with me too.

Amputated

Well I finally have something post worthy to write about. Unfortunately it’s not the happiest of news. Dude’s tail is being amputated tomorrow. The staph infection I wrote about (from the dogs fighting and Stoli biting his tail) has not gone away after 6 weeks of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. The vet did an x-ray today and said that where the infection on his tail was, it looked like it had been moth eaten it had gotten so bad. Because the tail is attached to his spine, it’s not something we can delay or risk taking any chances with. We’re definitely not looking forward to our boy losing his tail or the bill that will come along with it.

Murmurings

Brady’s ECG on Wednesday went really well! The cardiologist can’t see or hear any signs that Brady ever had a heart murmur and is pretty confident that the whole has now closed! He would like to see her back when she’s 18-24 months just to do one more check but he seems sure it’s gone! Such a relief! On Wednesday she has her eye follow up and then we should be done with specialists for a long while hopefully!
