Brady Catherine Tomlinson

Brady was born at 9:46 this morning weighing in at 3lbs 6oz. She was born at 30 weeks and 6 days, so quite a bit early. She is doing well and breathing mostly unassisted. Kelly may get to go home for Christmas, but Brady will probably be in here for quite a few more weeks, although I’m not really sure. Here are a few pics from this morning.

New ultrasound pics

Casey and I went last Saturday (the 6th) to try and get some 3D pics of the baby.  We tried everything we could and she was just too busy snuggling with my placenta to cooperate.  We only got one 3D that was a partial of the bottom of her face (tip of the nose down).  I haven’t scanned that one in yet since it wasn’t on the CD that we were given so that’ll be posted at a later time.  We tried everything we could think of.  I had just eaten and drank a Sprite so the baby had some sugar, we tried full bladder, empty bladder, drinking water while I was there, eating chocolate, and nothing.  She was moving around but just wanted to keep her head cushioned and exactly where it was so we couldn’t see her face.  Unfortunately this isn’t a medical place so the tech said she wasn’t qualified to guess length and weight.  Boooo.  I was pretty bummed that we weren’t able to get anything but the tech was nice enough to let us come back for a follow up last Wednesday, however, we still couldn’t get anything.  She called again and left a voicemail on Friday to see if we wanted to come back again to see if we could get more shots of her (no charge again) so I’ll call this week and try to get something set up and fingers crossed we’ll get something this time!  For now enjoy these traditional 2D images that we did get.  From her arms (and her face from the 3D) she actually has baby fat and isn’t as anorexic looking as she was at 20 weeks.

Late 28 week belly

I had my 28 week appointment on Wednesday.  We found out that I failed my 3 hour glucose test but after discussing with the doctor the incompetencies I saw at the lab, we’re not accepting the diagnosis quite yet.  Part of the issue could be attributed to my doctor’s office because when I was told they were faxing over lab orders for the test, they did not give me the instructions – to fast for 12 hours prior – and instead just directed me to the lab who said 2 hours would be sufficient.  I think that was the main problem making my blood sugar spike while it wasn’t at a fasting level to begin with.  Then getting the hematoma and blood draws at irregular intervals just made things worse and did not make me eager to retake the 3 hour like the doctor initially suggested.  I convinced the doctor to let me test my own blood with a glucometer and give her the readings for the two weeks between appointments the next time I come in.  So I now check my blood sugar four times a day (first thing in the morning after fasting all night and 2 hours after each meal) and record the results.  The doctor still wasn’t entirely convinced that I was going to have good at home readings because she told me to avoid snacking between meals because this could make my readings be high.  This only lasted for the first morning because my after lunch reading was 61.  So any chance of me having gestational diabetes has gone out the window.

My appointments are now every two weeks until I hit 36 weeks and then they’re weekly.  As of last Monday, I’ve been doing kick counts to see how long it takes her to make 10 kicks.  The time frame that we’re shooting for is 10 kicks in 2 hours but the longest I’ve had to wait when I’m counting is 45 minutes.  She’s been getting quite active with the gymnastics lately and doesn’t like staying still (which I love).

We got the tree set up earlier and the branches are all ready but have yet to start decorating.  We’re taking a break to watch the Broncos v. Chiefs game and then hopefully we can get it finished.

Happy Thanksgiving

Well we made it to Austin alive and in one day/night.

So this evening we are gonna fry a bird and make all the fixins, drink some beers and hopefully relax. I’m still on call but hopefully no more pages today.

There are tons of houses for sale around here and it’s quite pretty in this part of the city. I mean this is what I woke up to:

Nearly There

We are just about two hours out from Austin now. We left the Springs at a little after 7 last night so we are both pretty wore out at this point.

Stoli and Dude are doing good as well though I think they are just as anxious to get out of here as I am.

James and I are going to try our luck with frying a turkey tomorrow. So hopefully if and when I post next it won’t be from the Austin burn ward.

27 weeks

This week marks 27 weeks pregnant *and* the start of my 3rd trimester!  Thirteen more to go!

I haven’t heard back from my gestational diabetes (GD) testing yet but if the results are bad then I expect to hear back by Wednesday.  The fifth blood draw on Monday was by yet a different tech (there was three in all) and she was too rough and ended up giving me a hematoma.  My arm was pretty sore and bruised when I left but some ice managed to get the swelling down and now I have a lovely bruise coming to life.  I have my doubts as to the competency of the techs at the lab with all that I’ve read online and other stories I’ve heard.  Now if my results come back that I do have GD, I’m more inclined to think it’s lab error and not me.  Especially considering my LOW blood sugar rared up on the way home.  I had to pull over before I made it home because I was getting really hot and starting to black out.  Not such a great thing to happen while you’re driving.  My mom managed to talk me through getting pulled over and could tell it was getting bad when I started getting hot and stopped talking.  Once I was safely pulled over I took a couple of glucose tablets (which I always keep in my purse for such occasions) and was feeling fine again within a few minutes.  My dad called Casey to have him meet me (I wasn’t even that far from home) to verify I was ok enough to get there and my mom came over to see the hematoma and if it needed anything other than ice.  It didn’t.  Not such a fun way to spend your Friday night and now I’m just anxiously hoping that the doctor’s office doesn’t call to say I failed.

Twilight

sucked.  Bad acting.  Bad directing.  Bad cinematography.  Just bad.  We deemed the movie terrible in the first 5 minutes but stuck it out since we didn’t think Cinemark would be willing to refund us our ticket price.  If it was a Netflix rental, it would have been turned off.  Why couldn’t Harry Potter have come out yesterday instead?!
