Tedious Work

Well I managed to import about 125 posts from the old PhpNuke database into WordPress today. Talk about tedious. The CSV importer that I’m using is pretty stringent about formatting. First I use a custom SQL query to get all of the correct fields that I need. Then I export the query results to pipe delimited csv format. Then I copy that into MS Word and strip out all carriage returns. See PhpNuke didn’t have a wysiwyg post editor at the time so all of our posts are loaded with HTML tags for formatting. Once I strip out the carriage returns I have to go through by hand and seperate the posts. Then run a search and replace to populate the extra fields that the importer requires. So it is taking a few hours for each hundred or so posts. But it’s crazy reading stuff from ~5 years or so ago. So far I came across our first iPod, the day we were robbed in LA, the day after we got Stoli. Lots of memories.

Tomorrow I’m going to attempt to work from Brady’s room. I think I only have one call tomorrow so it shouldn’t be to difficult. Maybe if things are slow I can wrap up the blog archives.

Ok it’s getting about time to head home and get some sleep and let Brady get hers as well.

2 weeks old

Brady is 2 weeks old today. The time for her to finally come home cannot come fast enough. She’s up to 3 pounds 10.75 ounces and 16.5″ long. Yesterday they opened the lid to her incubator and were gauging how she tolerated room air. She runs warm like her Daddy and is doing so well regulating her temperature that she’s in a regular, open-air crib today! At her 2:00 feeding they just decreaed the amount of time she’s eating to test how she does. So right now she’s finishing up 33ml of milk over an hour and a half. If she does well with the faster feeding, then they’ll write orders to keep her on this schedule.

As Casey posted earlier, he’s back to work this week so I’ll be coming alone for the first visit on weekdays. Now that she’s in an own crib it’s much easier to pick her up and lay her back down when I need to pump. My mom showed up right as I was preparing to pump for the second time so she wasn’t in her crib for long at all. I’ll probably stay for another hour before heading to Target, going home to make dinner, and then coming back with Casey this evening.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get Brady set up with a pediatrician and maybe we can get our infant CPR class completed.

Brady’s NICU Christmas

On Christmas Eve we were asked if we would consent to letting one of the nurses take pictures of Brady in a stocking.Â Well we *finally* got those pictures back a couple of days ago.Â So here is Brady at 3 days old and quite red from being under the bililights but looking super cute nonetheless.

Back to Work.

Today is my first day back to work. Its been 21 days since I have last worked and a lot has changed since then. I can’t honestly say its been a relaxing three weeks, but definitely life changing.

Yesterday when we got home I begin the immense task of importing our old PHP-Nuke blog database into WordPress. Quite a task as there is no built in converter\importer in WordPress that handles that old piece of garbage. So I had to find a CSV importer, then do a SQL export of the old posts by author then format them into ‘|’ delimited format with all of the appropriate fields. The shitty thing is I can’t use Excel because for some reason when I save the file it converts my pipes to commas. Ugh. Not to mention I have to hand parse each one and remove all carriage returns. Pretty tedious work but I’m slowing getting them imported.

A lot of the old posts are from 2003-ish some neat stuff. Like Kelly’s first Powerbook and iPod, me using dial-up while traveling because High Speed Internet wasn’t very common in hotels. Some other neat stuff. Plus it will be great to have all of the data in one repository. I currently have WordPress emailing me nightly backups of the database in .SQL format in case I ever need to do a full DB recovery.

So far WordPress 2.7 has been great, its really easy to update addons and I’m anxiously awaiting my first Core update so I can see that in action as well.

Be on the lookout for a man with white shoes and black shoelaces: He is a suspect in an armed robbery at Popeye’s Fried Chicken, 3815 E. Pikes Peak Ave.

Colorado Springs Police said three suspects entered the business about 9:30 p.m. Friday and demanded money.

One had a revolver and another had a large knife, police said. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money the suspects fled on foot.

While other parts of the description were hazy, police said two of the suspects appeared to be cross-eyed.

New Years Eve Pt II

Well we made it home safely, we weren’t pulled over by the cops or run off the road by drunks so all is well.Â We got to see a bit of fireworks on Pike’s Peak from Brady’s room… well at least I did, Kelly was holding Brady.Â The sparkling cider that we brought, while well appreciated was a disaster.Â It turns out that the brand that we purchased ‘Martinelli’s’ has a bottle cap instead of a cork.Â Having never purchased sparkling cider before, we had no idea.Â And of course nobody at the hospital had a bottle opener on their key-chain or whatever.Â Bah.Â Oh well.

We took a few pics that I will post tomorrow morning when we get up and around.Â Most of them were dark because Brady was sleeping most of the time, so no great faces this evening.

I may try to put a dent in the achievements to receive the Audi R8 on Midnight Club tomorrow.Â I’m currently 2 of 12 of the items needed.Â Maybe I can make some progress on the whole this weekend.

New Years Eve Pt 1

After dropping my Mom off at the airport this morning we went and spent a few hours with Brady.Â She is doing well and is up to 24-Cal feedings, though she is down 5 grams from her previous weight.Â Hopefully tonight she is up a bit.Â We also got to put some clothes on her for the first time today, so no more nekked baby.Â She looked kind of shocked when we put it on her, we will see if she is still wearing it when we go back this evening.

We are heading back over to the hospital at 8:30ish this evening and are going to ring in the New Year as a family.Â Hopefully we can see the fireworks on top of Pike’s Peak from Brady’s room.Â Kelly informed me today that this is the first time that we have been here in the Springs for New Years in quite a few years, as last year we were in Austin, the year before that in Las Vegas.Â She thinks 2003 is the last time we may have been here at this time.Â Weird.

I have been thinking about picking up a Netbook for working and being a little more mobile around the house.Â The HP makes a great one called the Mini 1000, its a 10.2in widescreen display, comes with an 8gb or 16gb SSD and 1GB of memory (when you order from the HP site).Â I have been watching a few YouTube vids of folks doing boot time testing and app performance and it looks pretty solid.Â Although I may wait until next month when they are expected to release a Linux version with 2GB of RAM stock.Â This will probably be cheaper considering the liscensing costs for a Microsoft OS and then I can just wipe it and put my VLK copy of XP Pro on there.Â Then again I could see if I can convince my boss to just cough up the cash for a new battery for my work laptop and carry that beast around the house or to and from the hospital but somehow I doubt that will happen.Â I also saw a video of someone that had loaded Windows 7 on their HP Mini.Â That may be the ticket since they are releasing Beta1 next month.

Anyway.Â Here are some pics that we snapped of Brady this morning while I was holding her and after we dressed her in her onesie.Â I imagine we will have more pics from this evening that we will post either when we get home or early tomorrow am.Â Oh btw we went and bought some sparkling cider to take to the hospital for us and the nurses on duty this evening.

What day is this?

I’m hobbling around a lot today, Kelly says that a cold front is heading in. Perhaps that explains it. Current sitting outside the NICU hoping that the nurse on duty will let my Mom hold Brady before she has to head back to Missouri.

We got some wings on the way home from the hospital last night for my birthday dinner but they weren’t to good, though Dude and Stoli enjoyed them. We may go out to dinner again tonight with Mom, still not sure yet.

Have to go back to work in less than a week. It’s going to be interesting to see how working fits around time at the hospital. Or even if I can VPN into work from the heavily filtered internet connection. Not to mention the poor battery life on my laptop will confound the issue. I have been thinking about a netbook recently to increase mobility. Perhaps I should go to Best Buy and see if they carry the Eee by Asus.
