I hate cars.

Well our 4Runner is a piece of shit. This morning I was heading out the door to go to work, and I jumped in the ole’ POS and turned the key. CLICK. Hmmmmmmmm. CLICK. CLICK. Well after much cursing and such i resigned myself to walking to work. Its not like its that far, I’m just very lazy. So this little incident this morning has brought me to begin thinking about either purchasing a new car, or perhaps selling the truck and just buying myself a nice bike. By bike i mean bicycle and not motorcycle (although that might be nice, its kinda impractical). Kelly and i don’t really need two vehicles, I mean my office is between .8-.9 miles from here, I mean I can see the building from our front door. Do I really want to take on another car payment? Its so nice to have two cars that are paid for. Plus it would be a nice drop in auto insurance (at least I think, I don’t know how much a multi-car discount really discounts). So I think I going to ride Kelly’s bike into work tomorrow just to see how it is.

Work has been interesting lately. I learned today that you can’t expect an Intel 1000FX Gigabit Fiber Channel card to work properly in a Cisco 2912 Series 10/100 Fiber Channel Switch. I was under the impression that the intel cards were auto sensing and would step down to 100Mbit mode but that sure didn’t happen. So now instead of using the Intel NIC I have to travel back to the Valley and install a 3Com 990 10/100 NIC into my server to get it to operate properly. Blah Blah Blah words words words. That was not very interesting at all now was it?

I also received a call today from some tech recruiter from the Denver area asking me if I wanted to be submitted for a software engineering job with Northrup Grumman, I told him that I will never go back to software programming (other then ADSI scripts or something like that), not that I was very good at it in the first place. So the guy asked me what my current status was, and if I was looking for a new position. I told him I’m always looking for a new position. And I am. Things here would be better if I was actually doing all the work of a Principal Systems Engineer, but since I’m not actually a government employee I’m not really in charge of the system I’m here to maintain or even responsible for the people that I work with. You hear horror stories of how lazy government workers make their way through life, and several individuals in my office fit that stereotype to a T. So I’m the one stuck picking up the slack for these people, thus I end up doing the work of 5 or 6 people. GRRRRRRRR.

OK no more ranting.

I recently ordered a new pair of sunglasses through the office from Oakley. I managed to get them for half of their retail price, such a bitchin deal. I was sure i was going to get them today but alas my dreams were dashed. Hopefully I can get them tomorrow.

I sure do love the way Safari checks spelling as you type, that feature was made for people like me, now if only it would teach me to write properly.

This song makes me want to beat people (Dial-up Beware 5MB). Gotta love it.
