Warning: Will be a catch up post

It’s occured to me that I’ve posted maybe twice this month. Yeah, I know I suck. So I’m gonna try and play catch up on anything/everything that’s gone on.

I’m still taking my last summer class (principles of interpersonal communication). I was able to get out early today because we had a test. It only took 30 minutes and that’s with me going through the whole thing 3 times. I wanted to make sure I understood everything since the phrasing is very misleading on some of the questions. I think I did pretty well. The last test I took (last Tuesday) was really misleading too and I got a ‘B’ on it and I was SO prepared just the phrasing that messed me up but at least I wasn’t the only one. You’d think that that would prompt the instructor to change the format. I also received the paper that I had to write about communication terms that were represented in the movie Ordinary People (1980) and I got a 92 (maybe a 94, I still need to talk to her about it)! Not bad for the whole 30 minutes that I put into it.

Since I got out of school early I was able to get a lot done today. I went to the post office and walked right up to the counter. The postal clerk guy is a retired army pilot and I get him quite a bit but he never remembers me. It’s so funny cause he’ll tell me I’m so pretty and that he can say that because he’ll never see me again. I always remind him that he says it last time but he always just smiles. What a cute old man! I also went to Hooked on Books (on Maizeland & Academy) to trade in some of the books that I’ve read already or bought at the ARC that I can’t resell. I managed to do pretty good considering that i only spent maybe $3 on whole bag of them and I ended up with $16 in book credit. I picked up Lucky by Alice Sebold and within an hour of listing it, made more money than the price that I had paid for all the books in the bag (so more than $3). That’s the only book I bought, the rest I kept as credit so that I can research the other books that they carry. Some of the books are pretty expensive considering the fact that they are used. The book store is HUGE, there’s only enough room for one person to walk down the isle, even less room than down a library aisle. I’ll bring some more in later this week and see what I can do.

Went to a ‘fabulous’ lunch with Blake today at the Olive Garden. It was so yummy and kept me away from eating brad on a Subway sandwich. 🙂 We had a group of really weird girls sitting at the table next to us that just stared at both of us as they were leaving. Oookay. It was a fun lunch with great company!

After lunch, I stopped off at another used book store (don’t know the name at Austin Bluffs & Montebello). I brought in the leftover books from Hooked on Books and a few others. I only got credit for 2 of the books for a total of $3.50. Well almost all of their books are paperbooks and they have them listed for that amount or more. Not much hope for most of the books that I have. I was also able to get a few dollars from some old geek books that were outdated. At least I got something.

Once I got home I just laid on the couch. I turned off the AC yesterday because it had cooled down like it was gonna rain but didn’t. Then it was kinda cool in the morning and then cooled down again for a little while in the afternoon but was almost unbearable in between. I finished reading The Nanny Diaries. It ended up being funny, apalling, and entertaining. Worthwhile library checkout. I still have quite a few books that I need to finish before the due date. I need to get on the waiting list for Doyle Brunson’s Super System so I can brush up on poker strategy before Vegas! I even managed to take a nap after I was done reading. It’s still a little warm inside the apartment now but ok. I just finished watching Mystic Pizza and am now watching Kalifornia.

Yesterday I went to Best Buy to pick up some new releases and sale DVDs. I bought the following DVDs: Kalifornia, Tomb Raider, Final Destination 2, and then a DVD for a gift for someone (not saying who or what). Did pretty good for all 4 of them, only $46!

My left eye has been red since last Tuesday and just won’t go away. I haven’t wanted to wear a contact in it so that it won’t get anymore irritated. So I finally went to the doctor on Monday to have it looked at. It was awesome I called at 8:30, got an appointment at 11 and was out within 10 minutes. Now that never happens when I go for appointments, especially eye appointments. It seems that the only thing wrong with my eye is that there is minor irritation but no infection (I’m relieved). The doc subscribed me with some type of eyedrop, unfortunately meaning I had to go the pharmacy to get it filled. Then when I go to pick up my drops from Walgreens, they tell me that because of some particular # that was missing, my prescription coverage didn’t cover it. Ugh! So now I have to call and figure out what the number was. It’s always something.

Sunday, I went and saw Bad Boys 2 with my parents. I thought it was pretty good. A very decent action flick that wasn’t too long. I even brought in my own fruit salad (homemade) and iced tea. I’m such a rebel!

Saturday, my mom and I went shopping all day. We went to the mall and they were having crazy sales. The only store I bought anything from was Bath & Body Works. They have some yummy smelling new lotion that’s coconut-lime. It doesn’t sound very good smelling but it’s great. Smells a lot better than the creamy coconut, which smells WAY too sweet. My favorite though is sweet pea (hint for anyone interested in buying me a gift.) 🙂 A lot of the stores have their fall merchandise on display. American Eagle had some cute pants that I really wanted but was more than I wanted to pay. It was pretty cool cause the next store we went into was Old Navy and they had the same exact style for like $15 less. I’ll be back to get those soon. My mom got all kinds of stuff for cheap because of all the great sales. There was a shirt that I wanted to get for Casey but they only had it in small. 🙁 It said ‘keep on truckin’. While Casey thought about Grateful Dead when I told him that, I was thinking of the scene in Old School where Will Ferrell and his wife decide to get divorced and as they are parting ways he tells her to ‘keep on trucking’. It’s fucking hilarious!

Friday was my mom’s birthday so her, Jim, and I went out for dinner. We all met at Mom’s work and got to see her new office. We were planning on going to Coozan’s (even though Casey and I called last year and they were closed but they kept the sign up) because we thought they were still open, well me get there and if you look in the window laying on one of the tables is a ‘for rent’ sign and on another window there’s a notice saying that there is no electric, plumbing, or business permit for the building. What a waste of a trip! Mom decided on ‘On the Border’ instead. Well we should have learned from the last time that we were there that the food is only palatable, nothing special. My food was awful, I should have just eaten the free chips and salsa. While we were out we also went to Audio Visionaries and Soundtrack because my parents are getting a new tv and speakers for their bedroom. It doesn’t look like the new Mittsubishi tvs will be available until September. Right now, it looks liek they’ll be getting the 65″ but we also looked at the 73 or 75 (however big it is). That’s about all that happened on Friday.

Thursday, Marla and I went to Best Buy and the Citadel. Marla was picking up a car stereo and getting it installed before her roadtrip to Cali on Friday. Casey and I got a free reward zone card (f$9.99 value. I guess we got it for free because we spend so much money there.) and Marla let me get her points. It’s like 100 points per dollar spent, then after 12,500 points you get a $5 gift card. Not a great deal but since we spend money at Best Buy anyways and the card was free not a bad deal. While the stereo was being installed we went to the mall. The mall was having great sales on Thursday too. I got a pair of jeans and a cami at Express for $17 and a coupon for 15% off on a future purchase. At Old Navy I got a pair of capris, pair of jeans, and tank top for $25. I rule! I realized as I was trying on clothes than I am now a size 4!!!!! I am so excited that my exercise and good eating habits is paying off!!!!!

I got an e-mail from Marla on Sunday saying that she was going to a taping of the Tonight Show. The epsiode that she was going to be at had guest Angelina Jolie! I received another e-mail from her today saying that she would be in another segment again sometime later this week in a segment called something like ‘questions to ask the fruitcake lady’. But no one knows when it will air, but if you see it, she’s a tall blonde. I’m so jealous she got to go to Cali! She should be back tomorrow sometime. I can’t wait to hear about it and see pictures!

I talked to John for a little while tonight. Katie will now almost definitley be going to Las Vegas with us. Airfare is crazy expensive for him to fly out of Panama City so he may fly out of Orlando or Atlanta to say some cash. They had some awesome deals on America West vacations but they are based on double occupancy and Katie flying US Air. We’re hoping we can find a really great hotel on the Strip somewhere for a reasonable price. John seems to be doing really great with everything this year!

Um, let’s see. I picked up my parking pass for fall semester yesterday. It was crazy expensive, like $130 and there’s not guarantee that you can even get a parking space because they sell 2 passes for every 1 space. I don’t know if I already wrote about this or not but for fall semester I’m registered for 15 credits, 18 including a waitlisted class and I’m going to be able add one more when the semester actually starts. So if I get the waitlisted class then I’ll need to drop 1 of the other classes because 18 is the most you can take without special approval. The classes I’m taking are: beginning tv production (waitlisted, requirement), reasearch methods (marketing reaseach, requirement), writing for the media, directed studio performance, nonverbal communication, creative communication, and intermediate tv production. Most of them sound fun and I’m excited to start the semester and make some progress even though it is gonna be a busy and hectic semester. Our Las Vegas trip should break things up a little. Vegas baby only 11 weeks away!!! Vegas baby, Vegas!
