D-Day

The day has finally come.  Brady’s due date!  I can’t even imagine her just now arriving or maybe me going over my due date and her not being here yet.  Because she was a preemie for the next 6-12 months doctors will be using her gestational age (starting from today) to calculate milestones.  Just because she was born early doesn’t mean that she’ll start maturing any faster so in order to measure her growth the doctor will look at both chronological age and gestational to see how she’s measuring up.  For example, when Brady goes to her 2 month appointment next week the doctor isn’t going to expect much in the way of development since her adjusted gestational age will only be one week.  However, so we’re able to determine if she’s on track to developing along with those of her chronological age the doctor will also look at things she can or can’t do that a 2 month old would be able to.  I honestly don’t think we’ll have to adjust her age much or for very long she’s doing so well!

Brady had another ophthalmologist appointment today.  This appointment was *much* better than the last one.  The doctor said the vessels in her eyes have entered into zone 3, the outter most zone of the eye.  They haven’t gotten all the way to the edge yet but the doctor seems confident that it’ll happen soon.  At this point there is no cause for concern and issues will not require treatment.  The doctor is still saying that Brady’s nearsighted (which aren’t all babies?) but we won’t need to address that in more detail until she’s more mobile at around a year old.  Brady won’t have her next follow up appointment for 6 more months just to make sure that the vessels have finished their journey and no other issues have cropped up.

Enjoy these pics of Brady from the last three days – Sunday – 2 month birthday, Monday – 9 weeks old, Tuesday – due date!

She sure is plumping right up! Cutie! Did they weigh her? Awesome news about the ophthalmologist.. one more thing you can cross off your list of worries! 🙂

They can’t weigh her at the eye doctor – no scales. 🙁 I tried weighing her (although our scale is probably different than the pedi) and she weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces. That was on Saturday so 9 ounces in 11 days. We’re pretty happy with that – hoping for a bit more before her appointment next Tuesday!
