Martinis

Vodka and I do not get along.  I know this, I do.  At Alison’s recommendation I’ve been wanting to try an extra dirty vodka martini because I love olives and this has extra olive juice.  So even though I don’t like the taste of vodka or the smell (yes, I think it has a smell no matter what anyone says) and it always gives me a hangover last week I start experimenting with them to see if I could drink them.  Last week we bought Grey Goose hoping that by buying a better vodka, it wouldn’t bother me as much.  Strangely enough it tasted sweet.  Ick, not the flavor I was going for.  Last night while we were at Costco, we bought some Level hoping that would be better.  Not so much, still sweet.  I even had Casey taste it to make sure it wasn’t all in my head – it wasn’t.  Now I’ve come to the conclusion it must be the olives we bought.  After waking up with a bit of a headache this morning, I’ve decided martinis are just not for me.  I’ll just eat the olives with my beer and call it a day.

Vodka definitely has a smell. And it’s not a good one.

You can’t give up on vodka until you try Belvedere, IMO the smoothest vodka out there. Very easy to drink straight. In comparison, I think Grey Goose and Level both a bit harsh. Also, if you detect a “taste”, then get a flavored vodka, like something from Three Olives. Course, not sure how that would go with that kind of martini.
