What’s new?

Some of you already know this so it’s not really new for you, but for everyone else that doesn’t know – we’re expecting a baby.  We’ll officially be in the second trimester tomorrow so I figure it’s a safe time to left the world know.  Well most of our world anyway, I’m not going to tell the people I work with, I’m just going to wait until it’s obvious.  They people there will find out eventually, if they don’t suspect already, I just have no motivation or inclination to make an announcement.

We had our Nuchal Translucency (N.T.) screening today to test for Down’s Syndrome, Spina Bifida, and two different Trisomy variations.  We chose the N.T. option where blood was drawn and we got an ultrasound today and the results are compared and back to us in a week.  Then I go again at 15-20 weeks to have more blood drawn.  The results that we’ll get next week will show our odds as accurately as 80% then the other test it’ll show up to 95% accuracy.  I also had blood taken today to test for Cystic Fibrosis – there’s no family history of it but we just want to make sure.  I was offered this testing at my 8 week appointment but the M.A. or whoever that asked if I wanted it, didn’t know what Cystic Fibrosis was and we didn’t either so we opted against it.  There’s always going to be *something* to worry about while the baby is cooking but hopefully this will put our mind at least a little more at ease.

Pics below are of the 8 week ultrasound, the 13 week ultrasound from today, and then belly pics.  Excuse my hair, it’s in desperate need of a cut and highlights.  Now that I’m out of the first trimester an appointment is definitely on my to do list!
