As planned, Saturday morning the dirt and landscaping rock were delivered. We borrowed Grandma’s wheelbarrow the night before and while Casey worked on transferring everything from the driveway to the backyard, I went to the commissary with my mom. I felt bad about leaving him but with only one wheelbarrow and being pregnant he said there wasn’t much I could do or he’d let me do anyway. When we got done unloading and putting away the groceries, we all ate a quick lunch before my mom and I went back out. I needed a few things at Target and Casey wanted us to pick up more landscaping fabric while we were out and he was taking a break. When we were done shopping, I got to work. Casey let me help lay the landscaping fabric but after that there wasn’t much I was able to help him with. I seeded and watered where the dog run used to be again (somehow there was a bunch of water over there and the seed washed away a few weeks ago – see pic of Dude a few posts below), seeded and watered the spots in the front where new grass wasn’t growing in, picked up after the dogs, trimmed the bushes, weeded, and swept and oragnized the garage. After Casey had most of the rock in the backyard, I could finally see why he wouldn’t let me help. He tried having me sweep the remaining rock into the snow shovel so he could dump it into the wheelbarrow and I just could not move the rock. So we switched and he pushed the rock while I held the shovel. Talk about lack of upper body strength. We finally finished between 4 and 4:30 (nine hours from when Casey began).Â
The backyard is now pretty complete. It looks pretty rocky out back but you could just look at it and say it’s xeroscaping. Worst case scenario is we could add some more sod next spring and that would take a chunk of the rock down (which could be used elsewhere so no loss there). We still need to clean and stain/seal the back steps, especially since they’re calling for snow on Wednesday. And we also need to move the spare pavers we brought into the basement and hopefully once John gets home we can convince him to help us move all of the debris in the backyard to the dump (after renting a trailer to attach to his 4-Runner, of course).  Nothing too major left to complete but still projects that need to be done.Â
Yesterday we just took it easy. We slept in, then gave each of the dogs a bath, Casey made biscuits and gravy for brunch (it was 11:30), started laundry, and then we settled onto the couch. We planned on watching the Chiefs game but it wasn’t on here so we played catch up on a few episodes of Smallville before watching the Broncos take a beating from the Dolphins. After the game, I took an hour nap before getting up to make chimichangas for dinner. After that the night went pretty fast, we watched The Amazing Race and Desperate Housewives before going to bed and starting a new week.
I’m still sore today from the lifting and bending (and I’m sure Casey still is too) which should make for a fun day sitting in an office chair in one position.  Is it 4 yet?!
