First day of work

Ahhhhhh to be back in a cube, and no more traveling now if only I could have some heat and electricity in my apartment.

So today was my fist day or work and here it is a quarter til 4 and almost over. Its been great so far, I went to In And Out Burger for lunch and took some home to Kelly all within my hour, so living close to work is VERY nice.

OK here I go I’m going to attempt to tell the WHOLE story since I don’t have much to do right at this moment, so be prepared I don’t know how long this may be.

SOOOOOO the day before Christmas we recieved a call telling us that our elevator was not working yet but everything else should be OK, so we decided that we were still going to move on the 26th. So on the day after Christmas we had Dave, Jim, Chris and Randi come over and help us move. We got the entire truck loaded up in about 4 hours and locked up the apartment and said good-bye to the place that I had lived for almost 4 years.

That evening we spent the night at Kelly’s folks house then at about 8 or 9 the next morning we took off. First of all I am NEVER moving myself again, the damn U-Haul trucks MAX speed is about 65 and that is going downhill with a strong tail-wind. This thing was a P-O-S. As I was trying to drive up Raton Pass the truck was doing a whopping 15 all the way up. GRRRRRRRR. It sucked. So we did end up making it as far as Gallup, NM that night about 100 or so miles from Flagstaff which was our original stopping point. So the next morning we get up and head out again, I do believe that Arizona and New Mexico are the most BOREING states every. But anyway we decided to stop in Barstow, CA on the next day because we decided that we were in no big hurry, nothing to eventful happened that day. So finally on the 29th exactly 4 years to the day that I moved into my last apartment (also my birthday) we began moving into our new apartment.

So when we arrived at our new place we were supposed to meet this fellow that had our keys. When he was arriving the general contractor that is building our place also showed up. It was at this point we were informed that our place wasn’t completed yet, and wasn’t expected to be complete for at least two more weeks. When asked what that meant for us, he again told us that the elevator wasn’t working, and because the elevator wasn’t complete yet the utility companies can’t come on-site and turn on ANY power or gas for any of the units, including ours. But they said we could go ahead and unload our stuff. At this point we should have perhaps told them to stick it and give us our money back but we said “OK” and began unpacking the goods. I hired a couple of the guys that we working on our place to help me move the big items; couch, table, bed and TV. My poor TV got banged around the halls as they were trying to negotiate it up the stairs and they chipped a corner of my cabinet but it seems to be working fine. So finally we got everything unpacked from the truck.

So since monday night we have been camping in our apartment, luckily we have had water so the toilets work and we can have something to drink, but we have had to eat out EVERY NIGHT, and that is eating into our money very very fast.

I figure we are at the bottom now with everything that has happened, but we can only go up from here. I’m sick of typing so I’m not going to go into the rest of the goods like getting locked out and blah blah blah, I will let Kelly do that.
