Something

I feel like I should post *something* but have nothing to say.  So this is probably just going to be a general rambling and not really have a purpose.  Not a lot going on this week.  Casey’s boss is in South Africa so Casey’s been in charge and is probably going to stay in charge for the rest of the month.  He’s not really managing anyone because James doesn’t need to be manaegd and the other people on his team (everyone else) that don’t work when the boss is here haven’t done anything to work because Casey’s in charge, in fact one guy even delegated work to Casey.  Which means he’s working a ton of hours to compensate for his boss not being here *and* all of the shitties.  And it now looks like he’s going to have to work this weekend.

My week has been long.  Well all my weeks are long but this one seems longer because I had to work on Wednesday and for the last two months have either had it off or have left early for appointments.  Eight more work days till I’m off for Thanksgiving and I can not wait.  25 minutes left to go of this day.  Meh.

25 weeks

So this week I’m 25 weeks and time is going by so slowly for me.  Hopefully once the holidays start, things will pick up but right now weeks (at least workdays) are dragging by.

Last week I hit viability, but there are still statistics for every week on the baby’s survival.  This week we’re up to 50-80% (I found a different reference website that lists a range versus just the lower number) if the baby were born.  The chance for survival keeps going up between 2-3% per DAY between 24-26 weeks so let’s hope she keeps on cooking.

Here’s a pic of my 24 week belly (full of biscuits and apple pie) as well as some other pics from the last two weeks.

End of the weekend

It’s Sunday afternoon and I’ve been dreading the workweek since we woke up.  I’m trying not to focus on it being the last day of the weekend and just enjoy the day.  Work is flexing again this period but sine two people are taking vacation already, my boss isn’t willing to let anyone else take off.  So I’ll be working full weeks for the next two and then hopefully we’re flexing again the last week of the month covering Thanksgiving so I won’t have to take any PTO and continue to save it up.

Right now, we’re watching the last quarter of the Kansas City v. San Diego game.  The Chiefs have definitely rallied and are doing much better this week than in past weeks.  Hopefully they can keep it up and take the lead, as things are tied right now.

It’s been a pretty quiet weekend overall.  Yesterday after we got ready we went to Firestone hoping they could plug a slow leak in one of the tires on the FX since the Infiniti dealership was closed.  I guess it’s pretty busy for Firestone right now with everyone wanting to put their snow tires on as there were 26 appointments already scheduled yesterday and today was booked up as well.  They were kind enough to give us some air for the tire and hopefully some time this week we can make it to the dealership to get leak plugged since we’re going to be replacing all of the tires in the spring anyway.  We just want it to last a little bit longer.

Last night we went to Old Chicago’s to use my $15 in foam bucks that they gave me on my birthday towards a pizza.  There were several college games on and luckily for us the TV nearest was showing the FSU v. Clemson game where FSU won on Bobby Bowden’s 79th birthday!  I’m waiting for the FSU v. Florida game at the end of the month will definitely be a nailbiter.

The weather is calling for rain and snow showers tomorrow but we’re hoping against it and for the rest of the week since we didn’t get to staining the steps this weekend.  It’d be really unfortunate if the new wood gets damaged again right away.  Hopefully next weekend at the latest.

Prenatal Appt Update

Yesterday we went to the doctor for my 24 week appointment.  We were in and out in 45 minutes – a record!  Now if only every visit would be like this!  It was just a routine appointment this time, no more ultrasounds.  I was relieved that the doctor didn’t guilt me for my weight gain at this appointment, I think she’s come to accept that I’m going to gain within the normal range so there’s nothing she can do to stop that.  My belly is measuring right on for where I am in the pregnancy.  From here on out at every appointment the doctor measures my belly from fundus (pubic bone) to the top of my uterus and the number of centimeters should match the number of weeks pregnant I am.  A higher number meaning I’m measuring ahead, but so far so good.

I also received lab orders to take the glucose challenge test before my next appointment.  For those that don’t know, women that have never had diabetes can develop it while pregnant (gestational diabetes).  This can cause a woman to have a large baby that will not fit through the birth canal and could lead to a c-section or other complications.  The glucose challenge tests how your body metabolizes sugar (glucose).  The test invovles going to the lab on an empty stomach (no water even) and having  blood drawn one hour (I have to wait at the lab the whole time) after drinking the glucola (I’ve heard it liked to super sweet, flat Sprite).  If I were to fail this test (140 or higher) then I would have to repeat it but it would be 3 hours.  My only fear is that being borderline hypoglycemic that I’ll get sick before I even get to the lab.  The good news is that I’m not in the group most prone to having gestational diabetes and even if I were to get it, after delivery it would go away (but could come back with a future pregnancy).

Over

It’s such a relief that all of this election mess is finally over.  It’ll be nice not to see the streets and yards littered with political signs and be able to watch TV without slanderous ads coming on at every break.  We were glued to CNN last night from 4:30-10:30 watching all of the election coverage and the votes coming in.  I even dreamed about the election coverage later that night, another reason I’m glad it’s over.  Dreams like those aren’t so much fun.  I cried at both McCain and Obama’s speeches and I have to say I am excited for the change that I hope Obama can bring to our country.  And President Elect Obama – you have 90 dyas to get this housing crisis under control after you get into office.  I’ve got a house to sell.

I am disappointed in Californians for what looks like Prop 8 getting approved.  I know that absentee votes are still being counted but from the early predictions it looks like it’s going to pass.  Let’s hope there are a lot of “no” votes yet to be counted.  I’m pretty shocked that Californians are so intolerant with as liberal of a state as it is.  One form of discrimination has ended while another continues.

Words I Hate

  1. Preggers
  2. Prego
  3. Hossy (for hospital)
  4. Preggy

How much more effort does it take to type out the entire word?  There’s only one extra letter between preggers and pregnancy.  People on the message boards drive me crazy with this.  Thankfully none of my friends in real life, talk or write like this!

Viability!

Today I’m exactly 24 weeks which means this pregnancy has hit viability.  24 weeks is considered viability because if the baby were born as early as today, she would have a 40% chance of survival.  Obviously this is *not* what I want but it’s a relief to know I’ve hit a milestone and that NICU’s are advanced enough to sustain life from this extremely premature stage (babies born this early are sometimes referred to as micro-preemies).

Rocky

As planned, Saturday morning the dirt and landscaping rock were delivered.  We borrowed Grandma’s wheelbarrow the night before and while Casey worked on transferring everything from the driveway to the backyard, I went to the commissary with my mom.  I felt bad about leaving him but with only one wheelbarrow and being pregnant he said there wasn’t much I could do or he’d let me do anyway.  When we got done unloading and putting away the groceries, we all ate a quick lunch before my mom and I went back out.  I needed a few things at Target and Casey wanted us to pick up more landscaping fabric while we were out and he was taking a break.  When we were done shopping, I got to work.  Casey let me help lay the landscaping fabric but after that there wasn’t much I was able to help him with.  I seeded and watered where the dog run used to be again (somehow there was a bunch of water over there and the seed washed away a few weeks ago – see pic of Dude a few posts below), seeded and watered the spots in the front where new grass wasn’t growing in, picked up after the dogs, trimmed the bushes, weeded, and swept and oragnized the garage.  After Casey had most of the rock in the backyard, I could finally see why he wouldn’t let me help.  He tried having me sweep the remaining rock into the snow shovel so he could dump it into the wheelbarrow and I just could not move the rock.  So we switched and he pushed the rock while I held the shovel.  Talk about lack of upper body strength.  We finally finished between 4 and 4:30 (nine hours from when Casey began).

The backyard is now pretty complete.  It looks pretty rocky out back but you could just look at it and say it’s xeroscaping.  Worst case scenario is we could add some more sod next spring and that would take a chunk of the rock down (which could be used elsewhere so no loss there).  We still need to clean and stain/seal the back steps, especially since they’re calling for snow on Wednesday.  And we also need to move the spare pavers we brought into the basement and hopefully once John gets home we can convince him to help us move all of the debris in the backyard to the dump (after renting a trailer to attach to his 4-Runner, of course).    Nothing too major left to complete but still projects that need to be done.

Yesterday we just took it easy.  We slept in, then gave each of the dogs a bath, Casey made biscuits and gravy for brunch (it was 11:30), started laundry, and then we settled onto the couch.  We planned on watching the Chiefs game but it wasn’t on here so we played catch up on a few episodes of Smallville before watching the Broncos take a beating from the Dolphins.  After the game, I took an hour nap before getting up to make chimichangas for dinner.  After that the night went pretty fast, we watched The Amazing Race and Desperate Housewives before going to bed and starting a new week.

I’m still sore today from the lifting and bending (and I’m sure Casey still is too) which should make for a fun day sitting in an office chair in one position.   Is it 4 yet?!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!  It looks like we’re finally having a Halloween where it’s not freezing cold or snowing.  It’s supposed to be in the low 70s today.  So far we’ve only had maybe a week of cold weather so that’s been nice to have somewhat of a fall this year.  I’m still having to wear my coat into work in the mornings because it’s in the 30s and 40s but other than that it’s been pretty nice.

Stoli had her dental appointment yesterday and everything went great.  What Casey and I thought was gingivitis actually was just plaque build up and not a big deal.  The vet said it was a great time to bring her in and things were actually $50 less than they originally quoted because xrays weren’t needed!  They ended up letting Casey pick Stoli up around 2 and she slept pretty much the rest of the day.  The anesthesia was still obviously in her system because she was just very mellow and tired all night.  Casey said she’s moving around more today so hopefully she’ll be back to herself soon.  I’m sure eating and drinking will help her feel better too (which she hasn’t been doing except for the IV fluids yesterday).
