Long Days

I came into work this morning at 6 to try and make up some hours for the time I’ll be taking off on Friday.  Hopefully I’ll have the endurance to make it through the next few days.  I’m hoping I can work 6-4 and not take my half hour lunches (still eat though) thru Wednesday and then on Thursday work 6-1.  If I can, I’ll only need to take 3 hours of PTO for our trip to DC.  Unfortunately Dude’s surgery on his eyes is today in Denver and I couldn’t go with Casey up there.  I don’t know what I could have done for him if I was up there but I’m still worried about him and about him having a reaction to the anethesia.  They told Casey the surgery is supposed to take 2-3 hours (or maybe that’s just how long they keep him for recovery and all of that?) so I think he’s either going to try and work from a Starbucks or go see Iron Man.  I know he’d rather do the latter.  Say your prayers and/or keep your fingers crossed that all is well and there aren’t complications.

Martinis

Vodka and I do not get along.  I know this, I do.  At Alison’s recommendation I’ve been wanting to try an extra dirty vodka martini because I love olives and this has extra olive juice.  So even though I don’t like the taste of vodka or the smell (yes, I think it has a smell no matter what anyone says) and it always gives me a hangover last week I start experimenting with them to see if I could drink them.  Last week we bought Grey Goose hoping that by buying a better vodka, it wouldn’t bother me as much.  Strangely enough it tasted sweet.  Ick, not the flavor I was going for.  Last night while we were at Costco, we bought some Level hoping that would be better.  Not so much, still sweet.  I even had Casey taste it to make sure it wasn’t all in my head – it wasn’t.  Now I’ve come to the conclusion it must be the olives we bought.  After waking up with a bit of a headache this morning, I’ve decided martinis are just not for me.  I’ll just eat the olives with my beer and call it a day.

New camera

I forgot to add in my previous post that we got a new camera.  Finally.  We were having a lot of issues with our old camera not always switching into the right mode (we dropped it quite a few times and it rattled, but it *couldn’t* have been because of that!) so finally after 3 years with this model we got our new one just in time for vacation!  We stayed loyal to Canon and this time got their newest model, the SD890 IS.  Its 10mp with a 5x optical zoom with a facial recognition feature.  You know you want one too!  We tested it on a few pics of the dogs last night, so far so good.

Overtime

So I’m not allowed to have overtime at work.  But this week with more problems from my favorite (I’m being sarcastic) department, I’m over by an hour.  I asked my boss if I could keep it or just leave early.  I was told that we are not allowed to leave early without completing a form to formally request to do so.  (Example: Next Thursday I’m leaving at 1 since we’re leaving for DC and need to get home, drop of the kids, get to the aiport, etc.  Even though I have the following day off and will only be down 2.5 hours for the day, I had to complete a form and submit it for authorization.)  My options for getting rid of my overtime since I won’t be paid for it are to take a longer lunch or come in late.  I’m definitely opting to come in late since Casey’s still on call and can’t meet me for lunch.  This is just so ridiculous.  I told Casey I go to the babysitter for 8 hours a day.

Surgery

Casey took Dude to the vet for another follow up appointment on his eyes on Monday.  He’s on another round of drops/ointments for his eye and was referred to an opthamologist.  So on Tuesday, Casey took Dude to the opthamologist (who also works with the Denver Zoo) and got the consult (surprisingly not free).  $110 later, the vet said that Dude does indeed need surgery on *both* lids of *both* eyes.  I guess that stimulation check will be going to work right away.  Because bullies have breathing problems, he wants to do the surgery in his Denver office to ensure he’ll have the right equipment and special anesthesia he plans on using.  I’m not thrilled its going to be $900 but the alternative is Dude going blind and I’m a lot less thrilled about that.  They weren’t able to get him in until the 12th, so hopefully there isn’t a lot of recovery or post-op care needed since he’ll be staying with my parents that coming weekend while we’re in Virginia.  Fingers crossed he has a successful surgery without any complications!

My company is getting super strict and micromanaging us even more as of last week.  Since we’re on paper, fully staffed (even though all of us are always busy all of the time and were getting overtime without even trying) we’re no longer able to have overtime.  But if you have to stay late on a day, then our boss doesn’t like us leaving early on another day, we have to extend our lunch or something instead.  :(  I’d much rather work the hours I need to work to get the job done and save any overage I might have till Friday and leave early.  But that’s just not allowed here, unlike ITT.  We’re also required to take a 30 minute lunch every day and have to get permission to take an extended lunch even though we’d have to clock out anyway and wouldn’t be paid for it.  Then, they’re also getting fussy about the spacing of our lunches and breaks and starting and stopping time. Ugh, I seriously do not need to be babysat.

The weekend is finally here and of course the weather has gotten crappy again.  It was 80 on Wednesday and I was basking in the sunshine during my breaks and lunch and then it snowed yesterday.  Ugh!  Our plans for fixing and staining the deck are going to be pushed back another week now.  It’s a good thing we’re planning early!

Sore

I’m sure I probably already wrote about this but I’ve been working out on my 2 – 15 minute breaks and then on my 30 minute lunch.  I tried out running for about two weeks, even though I was worried I was going to hurt my knees.  And I did.  So for the last two weeks I’ve primarily been doing the elliptical, walking only on the treadmill, and using the Stairmaster.  I’m afraid that now I’ve messed my knees up even more by getting on the Stairmaster before my knees were completely healed, no I’m super sore.  Then today for some strange reason my thighs are hurting a lot.  I don’t know what the deal is.  The only thing I did out of the ordinary yesterday is leg lifts and only 25 on each side, so I can’t imagine that would be it.  I’m just trying to keep the motivation to work through the pain at this point.  No weight loss yet, hopefully the reason is maintaing is because my fat is getting converted to muscle.  37 days to get in shape before we leave for St. John!

Caught up

Today I’m caught up at least for the time being.  I’m sure any minute now people will start calling me and I’ll be behind once again but its nice to finally take a break.  As of yesterday overtime at work has been nixed since we’re considered fully staffed so that kind of sucks.  Also it seems as if we’re being babysat with having to ask permission for one hour lunches and being forced to space our breaks at certain intervals and notify everyone in the department, etc.  I’m just not used to such a strict regime.

Casey took Dude to the vet again yesterday.  I guess his eye is healing up nicely but the vet put him on another ointment to finish up the process.  The vet is still suggesting surgery as his eye lashes will continue to grow inward and cause irritation and scarring.  I’m not looking forward to that expense (our vet doesn’t do the surgery, an opthamologist from Denver has to come down) but will be worth it for Dude’s vision for sure.

Bloom and Wilt

My daffodils bloomed and wilted in the span of 24 hours. How sad is that?! I’ve been waiting patiently for them to finally bloom and when they did it brought a smile to my face, now they’re pathetic shells of what they once were. Needless to say there was another weather swing here and it went from 78 on Tuesday to snowing lat night. People keeping chapping my hide saying they just love springtime in the Rockies…ugh. The good news is that the weekend is supposed to be nice so hopefully we can make good use of it.

We just finished watching Survivor. Oh. My God. What happened there? I can’t believe one of my two favorite players has just been voted out. I guess I’ll be on team James now. I loved his closing remarks though. Classic.

Jury Duty

I ended up having to go to jury duty today. I had my fingers crossed when calling last night to check if my number had been selected, that it would not be, but it was. The security line was really ridiculous (think airport security). I did however end up recognizing three people today while at the judicial center – a lady I worked with at ITT, one of my dad’s former coworkers, and retired baseball player Goose Gossage. While it was boring, it could have been worse I suppose. I did end up finishing one book and starting another one. I also managed to escape going into the room for jury selection so I only was there for three hours. I was apprehensive about bringing my laptop because I was unsure if it would get confiscated but for those that are interested laptops are allowed.  I just don’t know if there is WiFi available or not.  I had a hard time going to work afterwards because it was 78 today but I had brought a change of clothes and there was really no sense in wasting time and going home to change just to get more sunshine.

Yet another visit

to the vet.  Casey took Dude to the vet on Monday because we thought he was surely falling apart.  For the week before he’d been closing his squinty (brown) eye more so than usual and sleeping, we’re guessing because it relieved any pain he was having.  Sunday, we were doing yard work out back when Dude started rubbing his face to scratch it on everything – the deck, the grass, the dirt, everything.  His face ended up turning bright pink and swelling up.  At least double, if not more, the normal size of his face.  His eyes were so swollen he couldn’t see food that was right in front of him and was running into walls.  Then he broke out in hives, so he was just a mess.  Casey took him in and apparently he had an ulcer that was irritated by his lashes growing inward on his squinty, left eye and on his right he apparently got something in it when we were outside and that just made his head swell and break out in hives.  He’s on eye drops, two different eye ointments pills, and then a solution and pill for his ear allergies as well.  Argh, good thing I’m working!  Poor little guy is being quite the sport.  He doesn’t like the ointments very much and I wouldn’t either.  His swelling and hives have gone down so hopefully when he goes back on Monday all will be well.
