My Funny Valentine

My funny Valentine – Brady.  At ages, 2 months and 14 months.  She wouldn’t cooperate today so no pics yet.  Maybe tomorrow?

Friday Boredom

Brady and I didn’t leave the house again today.  Again, she decided to take a longer nap (which normally I wouldn’t complain about) so I didn’t get my labs done.  I’ll just post after I finally do get them drawn and the waiting begins again.  There’s really no rush to get it done but I do plan on getting it done soonish.  The weather is supposed to be nice again (70s) this weekend so hopefully I can get several runs in and we can dine al fresco at least one day.  Have a good weekend everybody!

Some Labs

Brady ended up waking from her nap in a foul mood so I didn’t get the rest of my lab work done today. But hopefully tomorrow I can get that out of the way. My doctor’s office called saying they had received the results of my carotid artery ultrasound and they came back normal (which I knew) and that based on that, the blood work they did, and the ophthalmologists report – I experienced an ocular migraine. She asked if I had gotten my MRI because they hadn’t received it yet and I told her I had it schedule for Friday but they had closed their office, not notified me, and never called to reschedule. I then asked if the doctor even thought it necessary I get the MRI since everything was indicating ocular migraines. She said she’d ask the doctor and call me back. She never has called back and I don’t expect she will. I hate to say it but our care/satisfaction with medical personnel has been less than stellar since moving to Texas. We never realized we had it so good in Colorado!

The Results Are In

Well, part of them anyway.  I got a call from the OB’s office today, although I guess that should be the GYN’s office since I’m not exactly pregnant anymore/yet, saying that I needed to get more blood work.  Apparently the lab only ran four of the six tests that were ordered for me.  One of them, the Factor V, I told you already came back negative.  None of the others that they had received ever got uploaded to the patient portal and it’s been two weeks now.  Again, do you see why I doubt this office.  Administratively they leave much to be desired.  While on the phone with the receptionist I asked what tests did come back and the results.  The tests they did get back were the other biggies (in my mind) and the ones I could remember the names of.  All of the tests (Lupus, Protein C & S, and Thrombin) all came back either negative or within the normal range.   My Granny had Lupus and so does at least one cousin so I was most worried about that one.  Whew!

I still need to make some time to get over to the lab and get these tests finished up.  The receptionist looked it up and ensures me I don’t need to fast, so I’ll be heading over there after Brady’s nap this time to get things done and hope I avoid the fasting crowd of the morning hours.

Pictures from the Hula Hut

After looking back, it doesn’t look like I posted the pics we took this weekend.  On Saturday we went to the Hula Hut and used the Groupon we had that expired at the end of the month.  So far I’ve bought four Groupons and they’ve all been for Tex Mex.  After the snow on Friday, Saturday was 67 and gorgeous!  We expected to have a long wait as we usually do there but were pleasantly surprised to be seated outside right away!  The service left something to be desired but Brady did really well while we were eating (didn’t cooperate so much afterwards for posed pics) and ate her fair share of the queso!

Not Much To Say

I’m finding that with some of these posts I’m forcing myself to say things. To create fodder for the website so I can say I’m posting everyday even into the second month of the year. Honestly I don’t have much to say at all. Especially nothing on interest.

Today Casey worked in San Antonio and Brady and I stayed at home. We didn’t go anywhere or do anything outside the house. The weather is still a bit too cold to go for a run but I am able to turn the heat off during the day which is nice. Today I spent a bit of time cleaning before Casey came home. Since then I cooked dinner (stuffed peppers which were going to be meatless but ended up not being since I had a chicken breast that needed to be used), got Brady fed and ready for bed, and watched some more Psych. We’re a few episodes into Season 4 now and I think we’re almost caught up. Now it’s time for bed and to start a new day.

Super Bowl Sunday

Neither of my teams are in the Super Bowl so I’m not too invested in the outcome.  Even though they lost, I rooted for the Steelers to win.  Why?  They were my defense in Fantasy Football this year and my mom has always liked them.    I’m sad to see the end of the football season and will be eagerly awaiting September when a new season starts!

We are a football family – even Cakes gets into the game.  She can see/hear a NFL commercial and if you ask her what it is she yells, “ball!”  I don’t have a pic of her doing her touchdown pose, but rest assured, she has it down.  Here’s a pic I just took of her in the zone – watching the Super Bowl! I love it!

I am kind of bummed no one we knew was throwing a Super Bowl party.  Not because I don’t enjoy watching it in the comfort of my own home though.  More because I’m craving all of the typical Super Bowl type foods.  I did make Turkey Tamale Pie for dinner so that partially satisfied my craving for something spicy/salty etc.

Snow Day 2011

If you hadn’t heard, Texas got hit with some snow last night/this morning.  While I’m no stranger to snow, it’s not a pleasant sight.  Especially in Texas.  I moved to Texas for the warmth and sunshine (and Casey’s job) and to get away from the cold and snow.  This is not what I bargained for.  We’ve been here a little over a year and this is our third snow.  What gives?!  Global cooling maybe?

At any rate, this is what I woke up to this morning.  While we were watching TV last night schools were already closing down and it wasn’t snowing yet.  It wasn’t flurrying, there was no precipitation but the 60% chance of snow caused almost all of the surrounding school districts to shut down.  Then, after our whopping 3/4 of an inch this morning, most of the city shut down.  After growing up around this, this Blizzard Watch business is such a joke!

My MRI was scheduled for this afternoon at 5:30.  I headed to my appointment not thinking anything of it but noticed the incredibly light traffic.  Too light.  Surely the office would have called to let me know if they were closed and my appointment needed to be rescheduled.  I was about half way to the appointment and decided to call the office just to make sure before getting all the way there.  The phone rang way too many times and voicemail never picked up so I figured my suspicions were right.  I was running late anyway since I decided I had time to go grocery shopping before my appointment only to find out that everyone was grocery shopping (snow day or Super Bowl?) so I decided to keep heading towards the radiology office.  I called Casey and asked him to look at the website of the facility just on the off chance they had updated that.  They had.  Ugh, I was almost to the office and had to turn around and head home.  A 45 minute waste of time.  Boo for me not checking ahead of time, but again common courtesy would have dictated a call to notify me.  It looks like I’ll be going for an MRI next week instead.  Time to put the belly button ring back in again before it closes up.

Feeling Better

I’m feeling better right now.  My headache completely went away late this afternoon and I’m very much relieved.  I was starting to think something really might be wrong as I’ve never had a headache or in this case migraine, last quite so long.  I’m still going to go get the MRI done just as a precaution (although I will be calling to make sure they got the pre-auth before driving down there because this is not something I want to pay out of pocket).  So last week when I went in to have my blood drawn, six or seven tests were being run.  Only one of them has come back so far or at least been uploaded to the patient portal and that was for Factor V which was negative.  It’s been a week as of today so I hope they hurry along with the results so that’l be one less thing to worry about.
