More October phone pics

More random pics from recently that I found on my phone.  The first one is Brady laying on Dude at the vet’s office.  The rest of them are from last weekend at the Natural Gardener.  We had to drag her away from the goats and chicken kicking and screaming because she could not get enough of them.  She also liked the donkey but we didn’t get any pics of her with them.

At the vet…again

In the last 10 days, I’ve taken Dude to the vet three times.  The first time was his annual exam and shot (Bordetella – first time with this one).  But in typical Dudey fashion, we couldn’t leave it at just that.  He had yeast infection in his ear from Stoli licking him obsessively so the moist, dark environment let yeast flourish.  The vet put him on antibiotics and put some cream stuff in his ear and said to come back in a week for a follow up.  So last Friday, I took Dude back to the vet for his follow up and another $100 later (swabbing his ear) we find out the infection is going away and should be good and to just keep an eye on it.

Early in the morning on Sunday, Casey and I were awakened by Dude coughing, hacking, and vomiting.  He proceded to do this all day long.  The poor guy couldn’t keep down food or water and just sounded miserable.  The vet was closed on Sunday and in typical mommy fashion (this is what the vet called it and said she would have done the same thing), we waited 24 hours to see if he got better.  Towards the end of the night, he was doing better but he did seem to be doing better but also threw up throughout the night.  The weird thing is, he seemed to be his usual self (aside from his episodes) and was begging for Brady’s food, etc.  Yesterday morning when I got up, I called the vet to schedule an appointment and while I was on the phone he threw up again.

We get to the vet and he doesn’t throw up at all.  He keeps water and treats down and is barking, hyper, and friendly to everyone.  The vet couldn’t figure out what the deal was and I told her what our thoughts were – that he either swallowed some of his stick and it was lodged in there or he was having a reaction to the Bordetella vaccine.  She checked Dude’s throat and couldn’t feel anything and since he wasn’t coughing there she followed up with the vaccine reaction.  She called the manufacturer and apparently in 1% of cases vomiting can occur.  She gave Dude a shot (which she charged us for four of so I’m guessing she had to give him a big dose because of his weight – 71 pounds), some cough tabs, and some other mediation that would help with the cough and keep his food down.

Dude’s doing better today and hasn’t vomited since I called the vet yesterday morning.  He’s still coughing if I don’t give him the cough tabs every 4-6 hours but other than that seems just fine.  He’s not contagious, so that’s a relief.  Just makes me a little worried for Stoli getting the Bordetella shot in February at her appointment.  She’s also never gotten the shot because previous vets said it was only necessary if they were boarded or came in contact with other dogs on a regular basis – they don’t.  Only 5 days left of this expensive month.

Houston

We took our first trip to Houston to visit The Moore’s the weekend before last for Jude’s second birthday.  We left about 7:30 and stopped at Chick Fil-A on the way out of town.  We managed to get to the party at 10:25 – five minutes early!  We had a great time visiting with everyone and helping celebrate. And I know Brady did too!  Brady had a fun time playing with the other kids outside and in (beautiful weather), finger painting (her first time), and eating cupcakes and ice cream!  We asked her for days before if she wanted to see Jude and she kept saying “Es” and she was so sweet and finally gave him a kiss by the end of the party.  I was horrible once again and didn’t even bring my camera but luckily Robin’s family is full of photographers and they really captured a lot of great shots.  Happy 2nd birthday, Jude!

Austin City Limits

Presale for Austin City Limits 2011 went on sale yesterday.  It’s the 10th anniversary and I’m really hoping the bands are going to be as fabulous as expected.  I tried my hardest to get tickets.  I was on the website in a “waiting room” for 15-20 minutes before the presale even began (at 10am).  I even got excited because I got through within the first four minutes and had entered my credit card information and everything and was waiting to check out when my browser crashed.  Unfortunately their servers were overloaded with people trying to get in and I never got my tickets.  Apparently they’re going to do another presale (for $20 more per ticket) in spring so there’s still hope for that.  If not, guess we’ll be watching it on PBS after the fact (if the bands are good, that is).

Fallen off the wagon

It appears I’ve fallen off the wagon one again. In regards to posting, that is. Things are a little stressful right now with Casey’s new promotion and the change in routine but hopefully we’ll get back into something that feels like normal soon. For now, I’m headed to bed.

Birthday

Happy 28th birthday to me!  Thank you all for the birthday wishes!  Casey took the day off today and let me sleep in which was awesome!  I think this is the latest I’ve slept in since Brady was born – 10:20!  The rest of the day was pretty laid back.  While Brady was sleeping I got to work on making my birthday cake.  I decided a few weeks ago for Brady’s birthday I wanted to make her a Cookie Monster cake and since I’ve never tried anything like this before, I figured my birthday would be a good dry run.  If it didn’t turn out, no big deal because I usually don’t even have a birthday cake let alone need to take pics of it.  I made up the icing yesterday and refrigerated it.  While things didn’t go exactly as planned I think I learned a lot (including how to use the piping bag and tip – thanks You Tube) and should be able to make Brady’s cake that much better.  It ended up taking Brady’s entire nap to get it all done but I got it done!

For dinner, I wanted to try somewhere new but also somewhere Brady-friendly.  Meaning we would be eating early, hopefully outside, and something in a price range where we’d be able to set the pace for our meal (not steak or something with several courses).  I was torn between Tex-Mex and pizza but when we asked Brady if she wanted pizza she said, “Ssss”  (“Yes”).  We went to Little Deli and Pizzeria.  It got a lot of great reviews and thanks to Yelp we knew it was BYOB and were prepared.  It ended up being ok, there was just something off about the sauce.  I don’t think we’ll go back, but I’m glad we tried it.  Once we got home, I found the thread I had seen a year ago about the best pizza places in Austin and this time I made sure to bookmark them on Yelp for next time.  It’s always so tempting to go with places you know you like, that are consistent but there are so many restaurants in Austin it’s just a shame not to try new ones.

Another weekend gone

This weekend was ACL (Austin City Limits). As you may remember, Casey and I were planning to go and had tickets but opted to sell them as Brady would not have survived three days outside with tons of people (and the music wasn’t that impressive either – at least to us). Our friends from San Antonio still went and stayed with us instead of driving back home each night. We had a full house with five extra bodies in the house. I think that might be a new record as the most we’ve had before is only three at any one time. Casey went and got Shipley’s for breakfast yesterday and we were able to hang out for a little while before they left yesterday morning and then Adele, Meredith, Casey, Brady, the dogs, and I all went on a walk. Derek and Meredith packed up this morning and are driving back tonight but Kevin, Adele, and Emma will be back again tonight since they all have the day off tomorrow. Bummer, Casey doesn’t too. Ah well, I think he make take Tuesday off and that’s a much better holiday! 😉

We did not do a whole heck of a lot this weekend. Friday, we went to Pluckers to redeem my birthday entree since Casey got off early and Brady had just woken up. Saturday, we had Fajita Friday a day late. Casey played WoW and I read a book. And then today after everyone left, we started a bunch of seeds (cilantro, romaine, spinach, and carrots) and watched football. Sadly, the Texans were not on their game this week and Adrian Foster did not deliver for me and the Steelers were on a BYE so I’m looking at my second loss. So now I’m going to be 3-2 which isn’t terrible but the competitor in me feels like it is. Casey made stuffed burgers with feta for dinner and we just finished watching The Amazing Race. Time for me to get the coffee pot prepped, lunch made, and do some reading before getting ready for bed. G’night all.

Baby proofing

Just when I think the house is baby proofed, I find out otherwise. Brady can open any door she wants to in the house (unless there’s a lock on it and even then she knows to try and tiptoe to mess with it unsuccessfully) at will. I need to order some handle locks so she doesn’t go around getting into trouble, hurting herself, or trashing the house. Her newest fascination is opening the pantry and taking as much stuff as she can reach out. Easy problem to solve, right? Wrong! I took all the stuff that was within her reach and put it up higher. The only stuff left on the bottom shelf was her booster seat and a bucket of kitchen towels. Well that’s not enough for her and she tries to tiptoe to reach the stuff on other shelves, plays with the recycling (there’s glass in there), and has figured out a way to open the dog food container. I looked for some handle locks at Target today and they didn’t have the kind that fit our handles so I’ll be ordering some from Amazon tomorrow. I guess this is why people baby proof early?
