Anxiety attack

So I was supposed to sleep in these ski goggle things for 3 nights, last night was the 4th night and I chose to wear them again. Then when Casey left this morning I took them off because they were digging into my face to see how I would do without them – not good. I woke myself up rubbing my left eye so I put the goggles back on and fell back asleep only to wake up to the goggle digging into the bottom part of my eye. After taking the goggles off I wasn’t able to see as clearly in my left eye as my right so I had to wait to put all my drops in before calling the doctor’s office to make sure I wasn’t just being overly dramatic. I can see fine out of both eyes now but the doctor wants to see me (in Chevy Chase, which I found out today is only a 16 mile drive and since my cell is dead and there’s not a regular charger here right now…) at 2:30 to make sure the flap to my cornea hasn’t moved. Keep your fingers crossed/say your prayers/send positive thoughts cause I’m freaking out!

Movies

We’ve had 2 movies from Wal-Mart for like 2 weeks now and tonight we finally got the chance to watch them. ‘After the Sunet’ started out being a caper movie then got a little slapsticky but wasn’t too bad. ‘Closer’ was another story. The all-star cast could not save this movie from one long incoherent scene. My one complaint about Wal-Mart is the incredibly long wait for new releases and lack of lesser known films. However it’s worth it considering that I was paying around $20 month for Netflix versus $13.56 for Wal-Mart. Anyone try Blockbuster yet?

New found motivation

I have this new found motivation to post so I figured I may as well take advantage of it while it lasts. We went to CVS and I stocked up on more artificial tears. I’m taking so many at the different times that I have resorted to making a list and checking off the times. I felt beautiful walking into a drug store despite not having any makeup on or the velour traksuit and oversized black Jackie-O sunglasses. Even now when I look in the mirror I see myself through my own eyes without the usual criticisms and with clear sight.

The results are in…

Had my post-op appointment today and my vision post-LASIK is…20/15 in both eyes – better than perfect! I am SO pleased with the results. “Just for kicks” the doctor tested to see if I could read 20/10, yeah not so much maybe a letter or two. It’s not exactly weird being able to see so well, it’s just like I see if I had my contacts in.

The procedure didn’t hurt at all and I doubt the VALIUM had any effect. It was probably just a placebo. I was nervous going in but it wasn’t so bad, the only part that was uncomfortable was the suction cup and then the thing that held my eyes lids open so I didn’t blink. I kept wanting to shut the opposit eye that he wasn’t working on. No pain today just lots of drops which having to take 3 different kinds at different intervals isn’t so much fun but very much worth it.

It’s a good thing Rachel and I had wings on Tuesday because it looks like another week is going to go by without going to the Buffalo Wing Factory with Casey (HINT HINT). He’s getting ready to go with me to CVS (I keep saying Sav-on – still) for some artificial tears and then go to a LAN party. I’ve gotta finish up a project for my PR class then I’ll probably just marvel at my new and improved vision. 😉

I can see!

I can see now! I noticed I was able to read things at a distance right away. My vision is still changing and adpting to the new shape of my eye. I’m getting a little bit of blurriness and some glare but that’s to be expected. I’ve just gotta use the drops and I should be fine. I have a follow-up appointment in DC tomorrow, then another in 2 weeks and another in a month then it’s 3 mos., 6 mos., and a year. Survivor is on – go Stephanie!

Dreamy

When I woke up this morning I was mid-dream. Strangely enough Casey and I were in Sweden or Norway or something – wherever there AREN’T any fjords. It actualy looked a lot like India (must be from watching the Amazing Race the other night, the only thing I can think of) so we’re together in a porta-potty (I guess I had to go maybe that’s why I woke up haha) trying to figure out how to get out of this place (Sweden/Norway not the porta-potty) and get to Amesterdam. That was it.

Passing the savings on to you

I went to Target today to pick up some random stuff and fill prescriptions. At the pharmacy they asked what color I want assigned to each member of my family to differentiate between prescriptions. As if the name on the bottle isn’t enough. Is this going to cost extra? I’m sure the savings will be added in and pharmacies will start charging insurance companies for this because I know my little bottle (1) of eye drops should not have cost $45. Then they had to go and find the ring to show me what they meant by the color assignment and the variety they have. I don’t care I’m gonna throw the bottle away when I’m done with it. Then I guess the last time I filled a prescription for Casey they assigned him red and when they asked today I chose green. Again I do not care. In the end the prescription I was filling didn’t need a ring and they put the color coded sticker on the outside of the box which I threw away instead of on the bottle. Some things I just don’t understand.

Earth Day

Earth day was Friday so I feel motivated to do something for the environment. Virginia is a big advocate of recycling and there are all these specific bins for recyclables that we never use. Since we throw away quite a bit of newspaper and cans these are the two things I’ve decided to make an attempt to separate from the rest of the trash. A small step, I know, but I’m doing my part. Don’t worry – no compost heaps for me.

Dave Matthews

Tickets are on sale now for summer concerts (and even some fall ones). We missed out on Elton John tickets but I’m sure our bank account will be thanking us at $125/ticket. We also missed out on the Bob Dylan concert which is next weekend but I just found out today so of course there’s no tickets. I did buy tickets last weekend for Dave Matthews. He’ll be here in June, I’m just hoping that this concert is better than the last one. Not that I didn’t have a good time, his set list was just lacking. I’m sad that Megan and Jason won’t be joining us this year because it’s always more fun with more people so if anyone is interested tickets are on sale now.

Dinner and a movie

I guess I should have added ‘summer blockbuster’ to the poll because of the lack of anything good right now. I just got my newest subscription to EW in the mail yesterday which is the summer movie double issue. i’ve already marked my calendar (yes I’m that anal that I have a specific color on my calendar for media related stuff) for the release dates of those I’m interested in. There’s nothing THAT great coming out this summer. I’m interested in seeing how Star Wars turns out as well as the new Batman and Skeleton Key OF COURSE but other than that there’s not much. Some of the stuff looks decent but I wonder if it’s worth the time or money invested to go to the theater to see it. Wal-Mart is already getting my $13.68 a month, I should just get my moneys’ worth there.

i finally ended up using my Amazon gift certificates from my birthday and Christmas. I decided not to spend it on music for obvious reasons. Or movies because we buy those anyway. Honestly, I’m running out of movies to buy. Books are out because I can go to the library cause it’s not like I’m ever gonna read the same book again. So I finally decided on a magazine subscription and make-up – not interesting but i’m excited about my buys.

To those living in the D.C. area: AVOID CHESAPEAKE SEAFOOD HOUSE AT ALL COSTS. We went down there for the all-you-can-eat seafood of equal or lesser value and were shocked at the very ethnic crowd gathered. We should have known by the lack of newer foreign cars that this wasn’t our type of place. The crowd was spilling on to the sidewalk and into the rain. There were SO many people in there I actually had to say ‘excuse me’ to get to the hostess – who wasn’t paying attention to anyone, neither was the other hostess nor the manager. The people beside me had already been waiting for 45 minutes and had complained of a bad experience the last time they were there, plus people were rubbing up against me.

Shudder, I was still shaking off the disgustingness of the close proximity to strangers that after 5 minutes of waiting we bailed and headed to Olive Garden – which turned out not being much better. Disenchanted and still squeamish from the gropings we headed to Wendys for some fries and a Diet Coke to hold us over. This took FOREVER too and there was only 1 person in front of us, then the lady working the drive-thru must REALLY love her job because she was SO rude to us. (I’m extra nice to fast food workers because I worked it for 2 years and it SUCKED so what’s with the hostility.)

Once we finally got back on 95 with our cold fries, there was horrible traffic – it was NOT like the lights of a thousand fairies. People were slamming on their brakes and then braking after they got back up to speed again. It took us an hour an a half to go to Woodbrige for all that drama and then get back and go 2 miles from home to finally end up at Red Lobster (Casey was craving clams and I wanted shrimp). We knew we didn’t like Red Lobster, yet we decided to give it another try. Why oh why did we pass up the crab house a block back to go to this place. These places out here need letter ratings for cleanliness (last night at Chili’s an ant was crawling across our table – ew).
