Sick and Decorating

Brady’s been having sleep issues that started about the time Casey came down here and we were still in Colorado. The longest she’s slept in her crib in a few months was 8 hours, but since she sleeps for about 14 hours a night this had her waking up at 2:30 am. She usually wakes up to get in bed with us around midnight and will sleep till around 7ish. Thursday night she followed the pattern of when she ended up in bed with us but about 1 Friday morning she woke up screaming and crying. We thought maybe she had a bad dream so we turned on the lights to see what was wrong and let her see that we were still there and everything was alright. She ended up being all snotty and congested more so than just from crying. Then all day yesterday she was snotty, drooly, coughing infrequently, and fussier than usual. We thought it was just teething but she kept it up through the night and early this morning when she woke up crying again I checked her temp and it was 101. This morning I called the on-call pediatrician’s office and told the nurse what was going on. She gave me the option to bring her in or let her tell me what I could do from home. She said it was most likely just a cold from what I was telling her but that if she got worse or I was more concerned int eh morning that they would be seeing patients in the morning. We didn’t end up putting her down till almost 8 (we usually start getting ready for bed around 6:30) but so far she’s still sleeping.

Casey and I had every intention of getting the house decorated for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. I bought Casey the new Stephen King book and the weather turned colder and windier so that never happened. Casey decided he was going to try his hand at decorating the outside of the house with lights this year so even before Thanksgiving we bought lights. Today, Casey and James started putting them up and realized we underestimated just how many lights we’d need. So Casey asked me to pick some up at Target while I was out. I went to Target’s and couldn’t find the lights at either place, I did get the nurse’s recommendation for Brady of a cool mist humidifier, Baby Vicks, and Little Noses saline drops. Casey and James ended up going to a third Target and getting a different kind and are going to take down the lights they already put up and put those on the tree out front and put the new lights on the house. Hopefully it all works out but we might be taking the old lights back completely so all lights match. Time will tell.

Pics from Thanksgiving

We made the mistake of waiting till right before bedtime to try and take Thanksgiving pics, thus Brady’s expression.

There will be no Santa for Brady

This year anyways. We went to Wal-Mart earlier today (there are just some things you can’t get at Target) and they were doing free pictures with Santa. We didn’t seek out Santa but passed by while doing our shopping and he asked if Brady would take a picture with him. She was smiling and looking at him curiously so we figured it was worth a shot to try and get a keepsake. Such an epic fail! As soon as Santa was holding her, she scrunched up her face and started screaming. I could not get to her fast enough. Maybe next year…

Furniture and Yard

I ordered the furniture for Brady’s room this weekend. For now I’m only purchasing the convertible crib (crib to toddler bed to daybed to full size headboard) and the dresser but I see bookshelves in the not so distant future too. But for now after sleeping for the first 11 months in her pack n’ play, this is a good start. So hopefully in a week we’ll have everything and her room will be set up. My parents are bringing the bedding my grandma made down with them so it’ll be awhile before pictures are posted. There’s also some really cute letters to spell out Brady’s name I found on Etsy too. So many decisions!

I don’t think I posted about this before. When we were at closing we were able to look at the survey and noticed that when our fence was installed it wasn’t on the edge of our lot lines.  In fact, it was pretty significantly off (Casey estimates about 1.5 feet on one side and 4 on the other).  If it wasn’t to have gotten fixed we really would have missed out on a lot of land when our neighbors build their fences.  Since the builder paid for the fence to be installed, he was nice enough to call his fence guy and have them come out here and correct the job. They’ve been working on it for two days but it’ll be nice if they finish up tonight so that we can let the dogs back out again and stop taking them out on leashes.  Hopefully we can get the whole back fenced in when my family gets here (for now only about half is fenced – we have 0.38 acres).

Motion

Happy 11 month birthday, Brady!

Tuesday or Wednesday of this past week we started seeing some forward motion and a few crawls here and there. Well as of Friday Brady’s crawling wherever she wants to go (which is usually towards something she doesn’t need to be into like cables/cords)! She never army crawled first and kind of figured out how to do that at the same time as a regular crawl so when she gets tired/lazy she just drags herself where she wants to go. We went out yesterday and found a bigger rug so Brady has more padded area to crawl around on. Our life has been forever changed! Oh the other thing she’s started doing this week is pointing at stuff!

I need to get some pictures but she’s pretty fussy today. More teeth and refusing to take naps all weekend is taking its toll.

Health

We had a bit of a health scare with my grandpa this week. On Tuesday, he had a heart attack and stopped breathing while having a laser eye procedure. He’s still in the ICU but is now off the ventilator and awake. I’m so relieved and grateful that he seems to be coming out of everything ok and and am quite interested in finding out the results of the second CAT scan that was done tonight. Thanks everyone for all of your prayers, positive thoughts, and kind words of support!

Brady got her booster shot of the seasonal flu vaccine on Tuesday. Still no word on when she’ll be able to get the H1N1 though. Hopefully the worst of the outbreak is over until after she can get vaccinated.

Gotta love it

I was at Kohl’s this afternoon buying Brady some new pjs. As I said in the last post her 9 month ones are getting pretty snug (or her big toes are poking out). And since she refuses to sleep with a blanket, footy sleepers are a must.  Anyway, I was checking out and the cashier says, “I hear we’re supposed to get cold weather next week.” I just smiled and said, “oh yeah?” Well I just looked and the highs next week are going to be 65-low 70s. I love this definition of cold!
