bored

I’m sitting here at work bored as usual. I’ve even resorted to opening and sorting the mail but that only takes about 10 minutes at most. I’ve looked up everything I can think of and will now be forced to peruse message boards.

weekend wrap up

Just lounging this weekend. Our furniture got delivered on Saturday at 9:30 AM. Crate & Barrel decided to send the two smallest Mexicans they could find. Casey felt sorry for them and tipped them for getting the furniture up here unharmed and with the elevator not working. It still needs to be broke in because it’s not as comfy as the showroom stuff but still nice. We need to get throw pillows for the couch because there’s a lack of color in here now. We’re trying to get everything decorated by the time my parents get here next month. We have a lot of ideas so once we get started it shouldn’t take too long. We’ll post pics once everything is up.

We’ve gone to the gym twice this weekend. Going strong so far so hopefully we can keep it up. We broke our diet and each had an alcoholic beverage but the diet is going pretty good so far. Jason is such a bad influence. He came to watch Sopranos with us while Megan is working. She called and said she was waiting on the cast of the Gilmore Girls and Ian McKellen! Although she wishes she was here with us. 🙂

I talked to my parents tonight and after they get the Harley paid off they’re going to buy a new vehicle. They were originally thinking a new 4-runner but now are leaning towards the Lexus Hybrid SUV that comes out next year. It sounds niiiice and makes me want a new car too. Hopefully I can finish up my degree and get a real job so we can get new cars too!

Only three weeks left of my internship and school. Although I haven’t been there, I’d have to say with everything else we’ve been through since being in L.A. it has been just as stressful as if I were. I still haven’t heard from colleges yet and am starting to get concerned. Fuck them if they don’t want to accept me. I have a 3.3 or 3.4 so it’s not like I’m a bad student. Besides I’m a COMM major, what do they expect? I’m not saving lives or having people’s safety in my hands. A 4.0 is not necessary. Guess it’s just my nervousness speaking. We’ll see and i’ll let you all know.

another much needed update

We left for Vegas Friday at noon. What should have taken 3,5-4 hours took 6. Once we got outside of Baker (80 mi. from Vegas) it was a parking lot. We only moved 5 miles in 45 minutes. It must be like this a lot because there were signs along the side that said ‘no parking’. We were making friends with people with their windows rolled down it was so dull out there – we were even offered a beer, although we declined. We finally got to Vegas and checked in to the Aladdin, asked for a free upgrade and she started quoting prices but she told us we’d be on a high floor. We ended up with a view that she must have been forced to say cost extra and saw the Bellagio fountain show every 15 minutes. We played Wheel of Fortune (WOL) slots for a little bit but since we hadn’t eaten since breakfast decided to wait in line for the Aladdin buffet, which is the best in Las Vegas. It was well worth the hour and a half wait. They have everything there, even more than 6 months ago. I was pleasantly surprised that they had added Greek food. The desserts are in need of some help, last time the guy made me a plate of chocolate covered strawberries but they didn’t look willing this time. After losing at the blackjack tables we headed over to Ballys & Paris and played awhile longer. Our biggest win was a $400 WOL spin but we ended up spending that too. Saturday we went and visited Casey’s Aunt Donna and his cousins. We had a good time and envied their house which is less than we pay in rent and bigger and their getting a pool at the end of this year. L.A. sucks! That night we went to the Palms, which neither of us are impressed with anymore they may have good restaurants and clubs but all of it’s overpriced with too long of a wait. Plus, their slots are tight and they have too much single-deck blackjack with a $10 minimum. Starving, we went to eh Palms buffet which sucked my ass. It was so disgusting there was no point in getting a second plate. 🙁 We left early Sunday and made in back home in 4.5 hours, not great but not as bad as on the way out. We’ll be back again in a month for the Howard Stern show at the Hard Rock so it was good we didn’t stay too long.

Sunday for Easter dinner we went to Megan and Jason and had a big dinner with them and some of their other friends. It was a great time and made being away from home more bearable.

Monday, cable and phone were both installed. Adelphia was running a special where you got all the Starz and the Showtimes for free for a year but somehow we ended up with EVERYTHING. Hopefully they don’t notice it and bill us for it. Oh well, their mistake.

Yesterday, I went to the commissary in preparation of starting the South Beach Diet today. Gotta love cheap groceries! A couple came by that were interested in our living room set that I had listed on Craigslist and today they came by and picked it up AND we made $150 out of the deal. Not bad since we were just going to donate in to Salvation Army. Our new furniture from Crate & Barrel won’t be here until Saturday so it’s sitting on the floor or in camping chairs till then. But after all we’ve been through that’s nothing. When Casey got home we went to ZGallerie and ordered our bedroom furniture. Unfortunately it won’t be here till the end of May but at least it’s ordered and we’ll have all the furniture we need except for the office, except for decorating. It sure does cost a lot of money to have a nice home. It’s worth it though after Kingsborough.

Now Casey’s cooking chicken catchitore for dinner and we’re going to finish up Season 3 of Sopranos.

Slacking

We finally have high speed internet access, as of around 2 yesterday afternoon we are once again connected to the world. Also yesterday we were supposed to get phone installed but it is still not working, although I can clearly see that the tech came out to install the line. Perhaps service hasn’t been turned on for the line yet. I have to call Adelphia again and get cable. I was originally planning on getting DirecTV but I don’t think that it is going to be feasible to get both satellite and cable modem due to cabling issues. Of course I have no real idea but it just sounds more complicated then I’m willing to deal with. And Adelphia has their own DVR now so perhaps i will give that a spin.
,br>Kelly and I are planning on going to Vegas this weekend, as sort of a celebration about finally getting “moved in” to our new apartment. Kelly booked Friday and Saturday night at the Aladdin. We are thinking about going to go see “O” while we are there, but as of last night we couldn’t find any lower level seats for the show. So we will walk over to the Bellagio tomorrow after we check in and see if we can score some tickets.

We are trying to get rid of our crappy furniture in the living room because we went to Crate & Barrel last weekend and picked up a new couch, chair, and some tables. Hopefully that stuff will be delivered on-time.

Last night after I managed to get the WiFi router up and running properly Kelly tried to do a video chat with her mom through iChat and AIM 5.5 but for some reason it still won’t work. So Jim is going to go buy a USB 2.0 Webcam with built in mic. So hopefully that will work and the money that we invested in our iSights won’t be wasted.

I came in early this morning so that I can get off at a good time. The 8 to 5 bit makes for not enough time at home in the evenings. So I came in at 6 this morning so that I can get off at 3, that will be nice. And then I’m taking a day off tomorrow so that we can beat the traffic to Vegas and leave early.

OK enough rambling…..

Funny Stuff

Justin sent me al link to this site this morning. Some funny shorts with Superman and Jerry Seinfeld. Here is a direct Quicktime link to the long short (Beware it is a 31MB high quality short).

We lost our first hard drive this morning on a file server. I got called at 6:30 telling me that the SMART info was detecting imminent drive failure, so I cam in early to call it in, so we can get a new drive here in about 4 hours. Luckily our hardware is fairly fault tolerant and all I have to do is pop the new drive in and the RIAD will automatically rebuild itself.

I’m really enjoying having power in our apartment. Last night we rearranged our furniture to work with our apartment. It is only temporary until we get new furniture.

It can only get better!

We got power yesterday after 3 months and 1 day. It’s nice to be somewhat back to normal again. We actually cooked and had a cold beer in our apartment for the first time. It was SO nice! We’re both excited about going to the commissary tonight to stock up on groceries. Next up, cable and cable modem.

Its about time….

&lt franticly searching for Beastie Boys track &gt

So today is the day, one way or another we will finally have power turned on to our apartment, we will once again rejoin the human race. And just last night Kelly and I were thinking that it has been three month to the day that we have moved here.

Work has been going well since our migration. Although the power that be have since stripped me of my Domain Admin privileges, I am still surviving. I don’t think it will be long before they once again bestow upon me admin privileges so that I can properly administer all the sites below me.

As you can see from Kelly’s previous post we picked up some tickets to the Dave Matthews concert in August. They are doing two shows here in LA so we decided that we should go since Kelly has not seen them yet. I still don’t understand how they can charge as much as they do though. The tickets were over 60 bones a piece and that is for stadium seating, that is not for GA or lawn. And the thing is all the tickets were priced the same. I am hoping that once you are in the gate you have access to all areas including the GA area, although that has never stopped me from getting close to the stage before (looking back fondly on my gate crashing at the Family Values Tours).

Kelly and I went down to Seal Beach over the weekend, it was pretty nice. But a guy in my office said Huntington is a lot nicer the Seal so maybe we will check that out in the coming weeks.

I finally found some drivers on the Microsoft website for my Bluetooth mouse, so now I can actually use all the damn buttons. I’m going to try and map an Expose function to the buttons so I can stop using the hot corners. I really think Expose is the best feature of 10.3. Unfortunately I’m still using 10.2.8 here on my G4 at work.

“This next on is the… first song on our new album….”

A Weekend Update

Casey took Friday off but wouldn’t you know it he was called into work for a couple hours. Then we went to Lulu’s for lunch and watched Sopranos for the rest of the night. Sopranos got us in the mood for Italian so we got delivery Italian. Where else than L.A. could you find something like that?

Saturday we went to the gym for the first time together. We tried getting our car washed after the Mexicans next door (we suspect) egged our car. We went to the Sherman Oaks Galleria mall (entertainment complex) and had Fuddruckers for lunch (my first time) and watched Jersey Girl (cute). We have such bad luck that there’s always talkers near us and this time on my right were talkers/gropers and 2 little girls birthday parties. Surprisingly, they weren’t the ones making all the noise.

Yesterday we drove down to Seal Beach (approx. 30 miles south) and had wings and beer at the Seaside Grill. I’m not sure if I like them more than Hooters but they’re pretty damn good. Then we walked to the beach and laid out for an hour but Casey started baking so we left. Straight from the beach, we went to Megan & Jason’s and BBQ’d burgers. It was a really good weekend but went by way too fast.

This week: the answer to when we can get our electricity turned on and maybe cable modem!

More news

We found out that the inspection DID pass so we’re just waiting now for the electric company to come out! We just finished lunch at Lulu’s (outside, it’s mid-70s) and I posted a few pics. Check them out. I have more to post but I’ll wait till later. Have a great weekend!
