New Shipments arriving daily.

Kelly and I recieved the bulk of our DVDs from Deep Discount DVD yesterday, we uploaded everything into DVD Profiler, so check out our updated collection HERE. Yes 31 new movies added to our list. Watch out Blockbuster your days are numbered.

Kelly booked tickets to KC last night. It looks like we will be leaving Thursday evening right after work, and getting into KC at about 1130pm or so. Its a little late but my Dad is taking that week off, and my Mom is off as well, so its no big deal. So I plan on just sitting outside and enjoying the piece and quiet. Oh and programming my parents TV.

Kelly and I are trying to decide what to do this weekend. Is anyone even allowed to buy fireworks in CA. I miss the days of wondering if you would still have all of your fingers come July 5th. Sigh.

So yesterday morning I was on the phone with my Mom and she was telling me about the cheap fares on America West (not my favorite airline but its cheap fare). So later that evening Kelly looked again at the same flight as the fare had gone up by 50 dollars. So later yesterday evening as I was laying in bed I began thinking about the logic behind airlines and the way that they price their tickets. As you get closer to departure time the cost raises significantly. I have seen last minute flights from Dulles to Colorado Springs cost as much as 1700 dollars (of course I wasn’t paying for it, but I still got the reciept). Is it simple supply and demand that causes the rise in prices or is there some other hidden cost that causes the increase. Do airlines think that because you are looking at a fare a day or two before the departure that you are desperate and willing to pay? It would seem to me that airlines would want to get MORE customers, thus reducing prices would be more bodies into the airports and on to the flights. I know I would rather pay 100 bones or something to fly to Vegas on the weekend instead of spending 5 hours in the car stuck in traffic in the middle of the desert, but if I wait last minute to buy the ticket it will cost me 500 dollars or more. WHY? If anyone cares to explain it to me feel free. I’ll be here all week.

Tigers and Airplanes…Oh My.

Everyone should check out the Gallery to see some screenshots of the newest OS X release “Tiger”. Some of the new features are great, such as Spotlight and Safari 2.0. Personally I like Spotlight the best, it is extremely fast and it is able to query metadata to achieve accurate search results. included with Tiger is a new version of iChat, I hope that the new version will increase compatibility with AIM 5.5 so it will be easier to video chat with AIM users. I can’t say i was happy with the stability but you have to admit this was a VERY early release. But overall the operating system felt very snappy and responded very well even when running from an external Firewire hard drive.

Kelly and I were trying to make it to my folks house this weekend for a short visit, but airfare was just to damn expensive. The last three weeks had super cheap airfare so we assumed that we would get lucky again and be able to buy two tickets at the last minute for about 3 or 4 hundred bones. That didn’t happen we could have flown to the Bahamas for cheaper then flying into the Kansas City airport.

UPS tried to deliver our DVDs from Deep Discount DVD today but of course we weren’t here, we have jobs ya know. We are probably going to need a new DVD rack with the delivery of the 35 or so DVDs that we ordered from DDD. Yikes. Kelly had to work ALL day and I was on phone duty for most of the day, I did get to go home a little early because I had some extra hours that I had worked last week.

OK the movie is over, time to go to bed.

Reservations made

Reservations have been made for going to Colorado in December for 6 days (which includes travel time). Due to recent robbery scares while people are out of town (www.john-and-alison.com) 😉 I will not be posting the dates online. Instead if you are interested in knowing our dates for travel, please email either Casey or myself. We’re going to make a sincere effor to see everyone when we are there, if we have to we’ll have a big party at my parent’s house (not that they know yet, but now they do) to see everyone. It’ll be nice to have a normal Christmas after the whirlwind year we’ve had.

Nothing much else to report right now. By request, I’d like to add that the Pottery Barn bench in our entryway has been assembled and I will post a picture soon.

Updates, Get Your Updates!

I worked on ‘Girls Behaving Badly’ (Episode 406) from 7:30-2am on Tuesday. It was really cold outside and my feet were killing me in my heels but so were everyone else’s. It would have been a lot more pleasant if we weren’t supposed to look happy about it all. The crew and the hosts, Melissa from the Real World: New Orleans and Kira, were relaly nice and made it a lot more bearable.

Luckily for me I was able to sleep in on Wednesday till 9:30 when I had to get up for my eyebrow wax in anticipation for my photo shoot on Thursday. I don’t know if I’ll go back to this place again but it wasn’t a complete failure. When I got home our bench for the entryway from Pottery Barn was waiting, in fact it’s still waiting to be assembled. I tried to take a nap before going to work but that wasn’t meant to be. I got called by CSU, giving me instructions on how to apply to their online degree program and then abotu 10 minutes later with an interview for Thursday.

Thursday I got my headshots done with Michael Helms. I asked Megan to go with me to keep me company and help me remember the look I was going for. Things turned out pretty well. I am disappointed that out of 80 shots only 3 were any good and one of them was really good. I’m trying to get Casey to adjust the second picture in the gallery so that my neck and chiin don’t look so odd but I don’t know if that’s gonna happen. I guess I should be pleased and it should be expected that all the pictures wouldn’t be fabulous. Megan and I went to lunch at Barney’s before I headed to Universal Studios (not the theme park) for my interview. It was to play Gena Rowlands (the mom from ‘Hope Floats’ in flashbacks) in the movie ‘Skeleton Key’. I got paid for the interview and all it ended up being was some paperwork and them taking some pictures of me. I’m really hoping I get it because it would give me a SAG voucher, pay well, be good experience, and I could meet Kate Hudson! I dont’ know when I’ll find out about this one but keep your fingers crossed!

Yesterday I burnt my ass…literally. I worked on ‘Girls Behaving Badly’ (I think Episode 408) again and the shoot was at a pool and I had to wear a bikini all day, well 5.5 hours. Fortunately I reapplied SPF 15 three times which is unusual for me. I can only imagine what I’d look like if I haven’t worn anything. It was a lot of fun (aside from getting burnt) and I made friends with the a lot of members of the crew.

Casey and I both had such a busy week, that we’ve been taking it easy this weekend. The only highlight is that I’ve been able to submit myself for 10 roles in various projects now that i have my headshots! No extra work or auditions is scheduled for next week…yet.

gallery updated

I’ve added some pictures from my photo shoot. There were 80 pictures in all but these were the 3 best ones that have been resized. I’ll probably only make reproductions and work off the first two but I have a ton I was able to choose from. I’ll update more later with a recap of my crazy busy week!

Fahrenheit 9/11

Oh before you go and see Fahrenheit 9/11 please read this article. I may go see the film because it has piqued my interest. But Moore is very clever how he has disguised this op-ed piece as a factual documentary.

What a week.

Wow its been a long week. I have been very busy at work. Had a little bit of drama on Thursday and Friday. I was told to reboot all of our SAN attached servers on Thursday night to include the Brocade fibre channel switches. Well it was about 7 in the evening and I had been racking and configuring servers all day, and I just wasn’t thinking, so I rebooted ALL of the servers at the same time. Bad move. We have 4 mail nodes that operate in 2 clusters using Microsoft Cluster Services. Well for those that are not familiar with the way cluster services work, you have to have external storage for use by the cluster, this is where the SAN comes in. Only one node in the cluster can have control of the shared storage at any one time, or you risk corruption. Well stoopid me, I rebooted all of the cluster nodes at the same time, thus they were all coming active at the same time. So of course the mail nodes that serve the entire LA area, including Las Vegas, San Diego, Phoenix and Honolulu attached to the SAN and tried to take control of the discs. It was at this moment that I realized that I had screwed up royally, and shut down one of the nodes in each of the clusters, hoping and praying that I didn’t screw something up. I wasn’t so lucky. After I rebooted again, the mail nodes could no longer identify the Quorum disk (disk that is used to manage the cluster) ad well as the Information Store (drive where all the Jet databases are stored) and the Transaction Logs (similar to SQL trans logs). So here it was 7:30 PST and nobody back in DC or anywhere else that would have any idea on how to recover everything without restoring everything from tape. So I went into work at 5 AM and made the calls back to DC, and those guys back there were already working on it. So to wrap this up, it took about 6 hours plus many calls to Microsoft to finally get this thing resolved. It turns out that instead of corrupting the discs, it simply lost the signature for the discs, so they appeared as RAW partitions in the Disk Management snap-in. Once we rewrote the signatures everything came back up and running. So really the fix was only about 5 minutes. But still about 2200 people were pissed off most of the day. I’m probably gonna get yelled at next week for sure.

OK that was pretty damn geeky. Other then that not much else is going on. Oh one more thing, if you are in need of a Gmail account let me know, 1GB of google indexed mail rules.

Kelly got REALLY burned yesterday while at her shoot for Girls Behaving Badly, so we are probably just going to take it easy this weekend. I spent most of last night watching the rest of American Choppers and Motorcycle Mania 3 that I TiVoed on Fathers Day. Maybe we will go and get some wings and beer for dinner tonight. No wings and no beer make Casey something, something…..

It looks like the ITech conference is going to be held in Orlando, FL this year instead of Scottsdale, AZ like originally planned. Which is OK with me, since I would like to go back to Disney World, and check it out again. Kelly and I messed up going to the Magic Kingdom on our honeymoon. So maybe we can go back to Epcot or something. There is still speculation that i will be helping teach a class, but no official word yet.

sitting at work

I’m just sitting at work…bored. I only have an hour to go before I leave for my job on ‘Girls Behaving Badly’. Even though it’s going till late hopefully the time will go faster since I know someone else that I’m working with. I hope I’m not turning into a workaholic. Nope I enjoy being lazy too much.

Yesterday I was on Carnivale as a congregant townie. This means we were filming in a church (tent outside in the Valley in the heat with 200 people crammed inside in full period costume including hats, stocking and garters, etc.) and I was one of the townies (the richer, cleaner folks). I drove the 38 miles without makeup in curlers and arrived on set and endured 3 costume changes and a dusting with dirt before someone decided I wasn’t supposed to be dirty. Naturally I was delighted not to have dirt smeared all over my face and body. I’m hoping I’ll be visible in the scenes that we shot but I’m not sure if I want to work on this project again. This episode should air in December or January. I’ll post the date when/if I find out.

The GMail the GMail what what the GMail.

I finally scored a Gmail account, and I have to say for a web based email client its pretty slick. You can use keyboard shortucts, and it has good spam filtering. Now I’m trying to determine if it is POP3 enabled.

Came in to work early this morning, we have a lot of work to do today, and since Kelly had to be up early to go for her Carvnivale shoot, I figured I would get a jump on the day. I have to try and track down a gigabit expansion module for a Cisco 2912 today so we can get it ordered and finish this new offsite. Then we have to set up about 60 or so desktops and get them connected to the domain. Fun Fun.

There was an American Choppers marathon on all day yesterday until 9PM when the new Motorcycle Mania was on, with Jesse James and Kid Rock. Kelly got sick of watching shows about motorcycles so I have about 6 hours of AC and 2 hours of MM on the TiVo to get thorugh. I really need to expand the TiVo, while I’m thinking of it. There is a 40 dollar mounting kit from sone site online, and Fry’s has a 160GB drive for 60 bucks or something crazy like that. The thing is I have to find a drive that is quiet and cheap. The old Series 1 TiVo that we own, had the loudest HDD I have ever heard. And the constant drive nosie drove me crazy.

I rode the bike into work this morning, it only took about 5 minutes to get here, wasn’t to bad at all. I don’t know if the tires are holding air very well though. I pumped them up last night, and they were a little lower this morning. Hopefully I don’t have to get some tubes to put in there.
