More

We’re getting even more snow this weekend.  Ugh.  It snowed Friday, then cleared up.  Snowed and then warmed up yesterday to a balmy 43 which melted most of the snow from the deck.  And then today it snowed yet again and pretty much all day.  I’d say we have at least a good 3-4 inches.  I’ve been perusing the various local TV websites and have read about tons of accidents and how we’re in such and such warnings.  I’m hoping that it just keeps on snowing at this point.  There’s already been enough snow and freezing temperatures that the roads are going to be treacherous tomorrow and I’m just not looking forward to that.  Depending on how things are overnight, I’ve got my fingers crossed I might be able to put that VPN to good use and work from home tomorrow.  Although I figure that’s probably unlikely and I’ll just have to get up earlier to make it in on time.

Dude was supposed to have another vet appointment to look at his paw tomorrow.  The receptionist at the vet said she would call to let Casey know what time to bring him in on Saturday but that call never came.  So hopefully some time this week we’ll know what’s going on with his paw.  Having to monitor his every move so he (or Stoli) doesn’t chew on the bandage and wrapping it up with Press N’ Seal is such a pain I’m ready for it to be over.  As far as the swelling from his surgery is concerned, its gone down for the most part.  He’s still a little pink but as much as can be expected so I think he’s doing pretty good considering.

Earlier Justin posted about starting a garden and I’m super jealous.  We started trying to grow some things last summer (cilantro, jalapenos, oregano, and basil) but nothing really thrived here and just turned into weeds after several weeks.  The jalapenos didn’t pepper at all and we were pretty disappointed with that.  Then the azaleas that my boss bought for me on my first day have already died.  I’ve followed the directions explicitly but I guess with all of the overcast days and the temperature swings, even inside, they just weren’t able to survive.  I’m hoping that my bulbs start blooming soon.  I forget what all we planted in the front yard but I know we should have at least tulips and daffodils.  It was so pretty last year when they were coming up even despite the snow but unfortunately because of the temperature swings, even through May, they don’t last quite as long as I would like.

Dude

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAVKTA8MEBw]

Haven’t posted in a bit, so I figured I probably should.  Not much going on.  I think we got our first Blu-Ray movie from Netflix last night, 30 Days of Night, then movie wasn’t good but I will watch anything if its in 1080p.

As you can see in the video we picked up a bit of snow yesterday, probably about 2.5 inches, but then it began to warm up.  Its not supposed to be real warm today but it will probably melt off the rest.  Dude has his paw all bandaged up so I have to wrap it in Press ‘N Seal wrap every time he goes outside to keep it dry.  Kind of a pain in the ass.

Kelly and I finish our first mini-beer tours at Old Chicago’s last night.  The St. Patrick’s Day mini-tour is probably the only one I will ever finish, mostly because its comprised of Guinness, Harp, Killian’s, and then mixes of those.  Very easy.  Its only taken me 7 years to get 58 beers done on my World Beer Tour :(  Maybe one of these days I will finish it and get my name on that plaque on the wall.

Ok coffee is done and I need to go find my thumb drive.

Fixed

Monday, we took Dude to the vet to be neutered, chipped, and have his cyst looked at. Casey left to drop him off at the same time I left for work and we met there to pick him up together on my way home. The surgery went pretty well, but there was a little bit of blood still around the incision that didn’t dry up right away. The vet looked at his cyst and said it was infected pretty badly. I figured that it was infected but when I told him I had been tending to it with hydrogen peroxide to clean it, he said that just made it worse. Now don’t I feel like a bad mommy! The vet said that cysts are pretty common in dogs under a year old and that 50% of cases go away with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications. The vet didn’t remove the cyst because it was too big and I guess it would be a pretty big ordeal with skin flaps and that sort of thing if he tried. The vet said we’d see if the infection went away and it went away on its own before discussing removal any further. He was nothing like his normal self when we picked him up to go home. It was so hard for us to see him like that but he was still pretty drugged up. We figured it was partly because he was in pain and partlybecause he was trying to guilt us for letting the vet do all of that to him. He couldn’t even jump on the couch and slept most of the night on the floor. When we went upstairs to get ready for bed, he didn’t follow like he normally does and it wasn’t until we were already in bed with the lights off that he made the trek up. He managed to make it up all the stairs but was still a little hesistant about jumping on the ottoman so he could get on the bed. He eventually worked up the courage and other than some restlessness, he did pretty good for the rest of the night.

Casey took Dude back to the vet this morning for his follow up appointment. Even after his ordeal on Monday, Dude wasn’t scared to go back to the vet. On the other hand, when Stoli went in for her follow up I had to yank her inside because she has already made the association that the vet equaled torture. They changed the bandage around his paw and said that it looked better and that they would look at it again on Monday. He is having some swelling from his neutering so hopefully by his Monday appointment that goes down or away completely. I’m not really sure what they’ll do if it doesn’t. Maybe up his anti-inflammatory meds?

I found out that for some reason this is a site I’m able to get to from work. So strange because they block a lot of other sites. I’m even able to get to more than most because I’m in a special group for purchasing. Other people can’t even see images on shopping websites like Amazon or Target. Well my lunch is over now, back to it…

Mini tour

We started our mini tour today at Old Chicago and are determined to finish this one.  We got close last St. Patrick’s Day but came up one or two short.  So far we only each managed to get two beers with six to go but the thing I hate about the mini tours is that they only last three weeks.  That’s just a lot of calzones in a short amount of time.

I made Dude’s big appointment today.  Other than getting neutered, he’s also getting microchipped and getting a cyst removed from his finger.  I’m hoping for his sake that it won’t be painful and for ours that it won’t be very expensive.

Extreme Ways

It was 72 yesterday and a welcome change for us, but of course as typical Colorado weather would have it its snowing and cold today. Since March and April are our worst months for snow, there’s really no spring in Colorado.  It goes from winter to summer to fall for like two weeks and then back to winter again.  Yesterday we had the family over to celebrate the March birthdays (Grandma and John) since they John has been cleared to go back to work on Monday and will be gone for 4-6 weeks. Casey outdid himself again and barbecued ribs, t-bones, fillet mignon, and buffalo burgers. After eating, my parents, John, and myself played Rock Band for about an hour while Casey and Grandpa took naps and Grandma was our groupie.

Today’s been pretty uneventful. Casey’s been working since last night and pretty much hasn’t stopped. I’m hoping he’ll be able to swing an extra day off next week because of it but we’ll see. I had every intention of trying to finish up my library book, “The Appeal” by John Grisham, before its due on Wednesday but have gotten distracted getting ready for the week ahead.

Apparently USAA is still waiting to get some sort of resolution on the guy who hit the FX. They sent an email to us saying they were still working on it but I’m getting kind of frustrated since its been over two weeks now. Luckily things weren’t worse than they are.

Everything’s going good at work. The lady that’s training me told me that she was talking with my boss and had said she didn’t know who was training who. She said because she had been there for 10 years and I was teaching her new stuff. Its pretty funny and it seems as though I’ve already proven my worth. With a major recession looming, getting the new job couldn’t have come at a better time.

Shopgirl

After months of applying and interviewing for virtually everything, I *finally* have a job! I was hired by Memorial Health System as a Buyer. Yesterday was my first official day which I spent in orientation. Today, I was in a Lotus Notes training class during the morning and then spent some time meeting the rest of the purchasing department and other finance. I kind of spent today training but it was a lot of just being shown screens and where to look for things and not so much actually hands on type stuff. The training period is estimated to be 4-6 weeks but could be longer depending on my comfort with everything. I’m doubting it’ll take nearly that long and I’ll want to be on my long as soon as I can.

The Furminator

I ordered the furminator from Amazon and tried it out on the kids and both of them are looking *much* better. While the amount of hair removed doesn’t resemble the mountains of hair like the long-haired dogs in their advertisements, their shedding has definitely gone down.

In other news, I was driving John up to DIA to pick up his truck this afternoon and got rear ended. Unfortunately, it was in the FX. While its too bad this happened, the damage could have been much worse, right now the bumper is just scratched up. The other downside of this whole thing is the guy that hit me didn’t have his insurance card with him so I’m just hoping that USAA will get what they need to get the FX all touched up.

Farewell HD-DVD

Forgot to post about this.  Two more nails in HD-DVDs coffin.  Number one, NetFlix has decided to stop carrying HD-DVD titles and focus on Blu-Ray.  They will continue to maintain their existing stock of HD-DVDs but once those reach EOL there will be no more.  Number two, Best Buy has decided to pimp Blu-Ray over HD-DVD to the unwashed masses.  So when purchasing a new Blu-Ray player look for the guys in the BLUE shirts.. get it?  Or just buy a PS3 as its the best deal you will probably get right now.

After the PS3 purchase last night we went and picked up Planet Earth Blu-Ray from Jim.  Although Kelly wouldn’t let me watch an episode last night cause we were playing Rock Band. 🙂

Maybe tonight I can get some 1080p goodness.
