Trying again

My (what I consider) success at blogging in October, has been negated by my lack of blogging in November.  Since it’s been so long and a lot has happened, this will be a bulleted post.

  • 11/3 – stuff delivered.  After everything was unloaded Casey and I had lunch at Long John Silvers before picking up all of our stuff and the dogs from Justin and Robin’s.  Then I headed home and Casey went to work.  Lana came over to help unpack and we made good progress on the living room and kitchen.
  • 11/5 – fridge, washer, and dryer delivered.
  • 11/6 – Robin came over to help unpack the master bedroom.
  • 11/7 – Fence installed.  It doesn’t encompass the entire property but at least the grassy portion and some trees.
  • 11/9 – Garage door opener installed (we’re locked down now!).
  • 11/9 – While garage door opener was being installed, the dogs were outside.  As the installer was finishing up, I put Brady in her jumperoo and Dude started barking at her.  I looked at his face through the door and his face was all swollen and puffy.  I loaded Brady and Dude into the truck and just drove because I knew there was a vet close.  Well I didn’t end up spotting the one that’s less than a mile from here so just kept going till I found another one I knew of (still only 5 minutes away).  They got him in right away and gave him two shots to help taking down the swelling and hopefully prevent it from getting worse.  He was also vomiting bile as of the night before.  It was assumed if he stopped vomiting that it could be related to the puffy face, if not, then it would be a separate event.  The swelling did end up going down and Casey and I assume that he got into a huge fire ant mound at the far edge of the yard.  I guess it just wouldn’t have felt like home to Dudey without meeting a new vet.
  • 11/10 – Comcast installed our cable and internet.  I’m still shocked that we’re connected again and only 9 days from the first of four calls (it took three hours).  They’re giving us some crazy package with lots of freebies for locking in the price so hopefully I didn’t get scammed and everything is copacetic.  I had to prepay the installation and first month’s service or it wouldn’t have gotten installed until today.
  • 11/11 – Today – Happy Veteran’s Day!  I went to Lowe’s today and got credited for a 10% off coupon that arrived the day our appliances were delivered.  They were nice enough to apply the 10% discount to both transactions we did last week and the new stuff I bought today.  I planned on buying Brady more pjs today.  Monday, she had both big toes sticking out the foot of a pair.  Unfortunately, I didn’t get a pic before I cut off the feet but I did after.

I’m sure there’s more than I’m forgetting but that’s all that I can think of for now and it’s getting late.  Things are starting to feel more normal and like home.  So far no complaints about Austin other than my family not being here and hopefully they’ll be here SOON!  Pics to come soon!

Like McGyver

In finally managed to get my head out of work long enough today to realize that I had a mini antennae for the HDTV. I originally had it hooked up to the TV directly but for some reason I couldn’t access the channel setup. So instead I hooked it up to the TiVo, than ran into a whole other set of hurdles. I needed to run Guided Setup again on the TiVo because we are in a different zip code now, which of course requires internet access. This began a long review of how to properly share out a 3g Wireless Modem with Windows ICS. Once I had that figured out everything ended up working out for the best. We now get ABC, NBC,FOX, and CBS in full HD. So most of the shows Kelly and I watch on a weekly basis will be recorded in HD.

I’m just upset I didn’t think of all of this earlier so I could have watched some football earlier. May have been a good game on since Dallas is playing now. That is the one bad thing about living in TX, two pro football teams that don’t play each other. So you have two games that are ALWAYS aired, and you end up missing better games. Monday Night Football is on ESPN for some damn reason, so going to miss that one, but I bet that will be a great game.

We Are Nearly There

I have managed to obtain temporary interweb access for Kelly and I through work. My boss and team lead gave me their AT&T USB 3G Adapters so we can at least check email and log into work. The bad thing is the cards are limited to 5GB a month download. So that means no Hulu or YouTube. RDP access over the modem isn’t bad, and doesn’t chew up much bandwidth so that is good. I’m actually able to get most of my work done today.

Both Lana and Robin have come over in the last few days to help Kelly unpack. It almost looks like we live here now. There is a crew in the backyard now putting up a fence. They are hauling ass, now that they supports have had two days to set following them pouring the concrete. What a world of difference a nail gun makes. So Stoli and Dudey can just go out now and do their own business instead of having to haul them around on their leashes.

Got tons of TiVo to catch up on, Kelly saved most of our shows so that I could watch them on my days off. James and I are probably gonna go play some disc golf tomorrow at Circle C, even if it rains. As long as we don’t get hit with a flash flood I will be OK.

Kelly probably has some pics she can post later.

WTF is Cloud Computing

Probably the most poorly written article on cloud computing I have ever read. This guy is an idiot.

Tomorrow

Well we met the realtor at the house yesterday, got our keys, and firmed up our lease dates. The movers are supposed to come tomorrow and at that pint it’ll probably feel more like we’re Texans and less like another vacation. I can’t imagine that unloading the truck is going to take too long, so hopefully we’ll be able to get our refrigerator, washer, dryer, and garage door opener purchase and ready. I’m already tired thinking about tomorrow and still haven’t quite caught up with sleep yet. Although I’m now wondering if that’ll ever happen.

Getting closer now

I just finished my last driving session and Casey has taken over. We’re now about 15 miles from Waco and we’re guessing about 2 hours from Justin & Robin’s where we’re staying tonight. Everyone is so ready to be out of the car. Will post more later – too much typing and riding makes me sick.

Going, going, almost gone

It’s been really busy around here lately. A lot busier than I’d like, that’s for sure. And it’s only going to get more chaotic before things calm down. Friday, Casey was at the house in Austin to get the septic inspection done. All looks good on that thankfully and now we’re just waiting on the final report. Then Saturday, he got the home and termite inspections done. Brady and I stayed around here most of Saturday but did go over to my parent’s in the afternoon for a few hours to spend time with everyone.

On Sunday, Brady and I drove up to Denver to have lunch with Alison. We went to an Italian restaurant, Brio, that opened pretty recently in the new outdoor part of Park Meadows. It was really nice to be able to spend some more time together before we leave. Life has never allowed us to live near each other for very long so after she just moved back to the area, it was hard knowing that I’d be leaving again soon but we’ve definitely tried to make the best of the time we were in the same place!

Yesterday, I took Dude to the vet for his annual exam and vaccinations. Well actually, just one vaccination was all he was do for and his heartworm test which came back negative. It’s really hard to corral him and try to get the car seat at the same time. After giving it a go, I finally just ran him inside and asked the people in the office if they could watch him while I got Brady out. If it’s possible, I think Dudey was even a little more hyper than usual and would not stay still. As the vet was wrapping up with Dude, he was asking how Brady did with him. I told him they were best friends and lowered Brady down and as if on cue, Dude walked up and gave her a kiss! I think yesterday’s visit was the fastest I’ve been in and out of that place. Casey’s been taking the dogs in by himself for nearly two years now between me working and then with Brady. I think the reason my visit was so much shorter this time is because all of my questions and concerns about the dogs I used to save up for the vet, I now unleash on the pediatrician. 😉

Then, yesterday afternoon I had an appointment to get new tires on the FX. I was cautioned before Casey left about driving in bad weather since the tread on the tires was pretty much nonexistent so we figured it’d probably be a good idea to get new ones put on just in case we hit weather on our trip. My mom picked Brady and I up so we were fortunate to be able to spend more time with her yesterday as well.

Today was supposed to be a relaxing day but it ended up being anything but. I realized there were lots of little things I still needed to get done around here – cleaning, packing, organizing, etc. My mom came over after work and hung out and helped with Brady which was a big help and I don’t think I could have gotten nearly as much done without her here. And my dad came over after work to help with disconnecting the propane tank from the grill, draining the oil/gas out of the lawn equipment, and breaking down Brady’s equipment the rest of the way. We’re supposed to be getting a snow storm tonight but unless we get snowed in, the movers should be here at 8am to start packing us up and then loading the truck on Thursday. I still have quite a few things on my list to do before calling it so I should wrap this up and get to it.

Neighbors

Our neighbors (sort of next door) are notorious for having parties. We’ve complained in the past about their parties which last till midnight. It wouldn’t be such an issue if they kept their parties in doors but everyone brings their kids and inevitably adults end up outside too and it just ends up loud. Well apparently their parties take place year round because I just had to lure the dogs in with peanut butter cookies since they were barking nonstop at the kids next door on the trampoline. At 9:15 at night. In 47 degree weather. I’m so old.

10 Months

News pics of Brady from yesterday and today.  There’s also a sneak peek near the end of Brady’s Halloween costume.  I should also note that I bought this *last* Halloween before she was even born.  I was going to buy an Amidala costume and make Casey buy a Vader costume but we’re not going anywhere so really no reason to complete the picture.
