At it again.

I recently updated WordPress to version 2.6, as I was sucked in by this catchy video.

But just like last time I managed to delete the one gallery that we had uploaded.  So I’m currently trying to upload that again.

WordPress also released a WordPress.app for the iPhone App Store.

Hopefully I can get it all working sometime this afternoon.

iPhone 3g

Next to the wheel the iPhone 3g may be the best invention ever created by man. I’m not lying.

Within 2 minutes of having the phone out of the box and activated I was already synced up with my HP mailbox via ActiveSync, had multiple “tabs” in Safari open and was already downloading apps at the iTunes App Store.

I am absolutely delighted with this device.

Minutes after I have ActiveSync setup, I already have 90+ messages in my Inbox:

Tabbed browsing in Safari, you simply slide through the pages you have and tap them to select them and bring them to the focus. Gmail, Google, etc.

Here is the YouTube viewer, the quality can vary greatly depending on connection speed. This screenshot was taken while connected to my WiFi at home, thus the quality is quite high.

Nearly all webpages I visited worked just as I would expect them to on a standard browser, the pinch and spread finger gestures work great for zooming and focusing in on text. Viewing webpages in landscape mode is even better.

I’m already getting more adept and typing with two thumbs on the virtual keypad, and thus far the predictive text has been spot on.

The Assisted GPS was lots of fun, watching the pulsing blue dot haul ass south on I-25 was worth a laugh, although I’m not sure how well it will work for those that live in a concrete jungle.

The iPod functionality is great, if you love the iTunes gimmicks you will dig the album flip book.

One great gem is Meebo actually is formatted to fit the iPhone, so you have access to all of your instant messaging services in one stop ( http://www.meebo.com/)

The landscape keyboard is even more roomy and much easier to type on.

The Email.app that comes bundled with the iPhone is capable of loads of different email services out of the box, making it effortless to setup and use.

I haven’t synced it with the handsfree system in the FX yet, but I can only assume that will be a smooth as everything else has been thus far. I really can’t stress enough how great this thing is. If you are in the market for a new phone, and you are in a 3g coverage area, this should be the phone for you.

So long Verizon

As of Saturday, we are no longer Verizon Wireless customers!  While we did get a discount on service is was way overpriced for the sporadic coverage we got.  And my phone was literally falling apart.  I need to take a pic of my old Q because it had seen better days.

On Friday, the new iPhone 3G was released and Casey called several AT&T stores in town trying to track it down until finally someone just said there are no iPhones in the Springs.  So Saturday we drove up to Denver with my parents to stand in line at the Apple store in Park Meadows for it.  We arrived at 9:55 (the stores didn’t even open until 10) and found ourselves in line for close to 5 hours.  Casey and my dad were good sports and stood in line while my mom and I shopped, stopping by every so often to check up on progress.

I was waiting for Casey to make a more geeky/techincal review of our phone but since I’ve been on him to do this since Saturday and it hasn’t happened, I figure a post from me is better than none at all.  Ah the iPhone, in a word, it’s awesome!  I no longer have to carry around an iPod and a cell phone and it’s so much more user-friendly than our Q’s were.  At first I didn’t think I’d like the touch screen very much, thinking I’d miss touching actual buttons.  Surprisingly, it has a pretty smart system for auto correcting what I type and the key to typing accurately is to use the side of your fingertip.  I know there are way more capabilities than I’m even using but I’m getting a lot more out of it than I did my old phone.  I highly recommend the phone and if you need more technical info before buying one yourself, nag at Casey until he posts.

We got a Wii

After looking online for a Wii, of course with no luck, we finally started hunting around town.  We went to the Wal-Mart in Falcon on Saturday morning with no luck.  That night, I looked at the ads online and Target and Circuit City both had Wiis in their ads.  We opted for Target since they open two hours earlier.  We got there 15 minutes early and there were already people waiting in line.  They had several Wiis available so we were able to pick one of those up but no luck with a Wii Fit.  That would have been too easy.  So we went to breakfast since we had time to kill before Circuit City opened.  We were sitting in the FX out front for about 25 minutes (still had 35 minutes till they opened) and an employee came out.  He walked over and asked if we were looking for a Wii or Guitar Hero for the Wii because they did have both in stock but no Wii Fits.  So we drove over to Best Buy and waited in line there till they opened, no Wii Fits either.  Boooo!  I can’t get to the site that the Sunday ads are posted early at work, so hopefully when I get home I’ll be pleasantly surprised and the Wii Fits will be in *someone’s* ad.

We played Wii Sports on Sunday for a little bit but the controller takes some getting used to.  It wasn’t until the next time I tried playing, that I realized there were training exercises for each sport.  I do the best at bowling, averagish at baseball, I’m tied for worst on golfing and tennis, and haven’t tried boxing yet because I’ve been too lazy to tether the controllers together.  Now three days later and I’m not as sore as I was (I was trying to use the controller like actual bats, rackets, clubs, etc) I’m going to try my hand at it again.  Now the only thing I need to do is find our Wii ID so our friends’ Miis can come and mingle with us at events.

Things I learned

While in St. John I learned some things about packing for tropical destinations.  Being a woman, I’m probably always going to pack more than I need.  At least now I know what I can do without and bring the things I do need in its place.

  1. Between the two of us, for a week long vacation, Casey and I need 3 bottles of spray sunscreen.  Two isn’t quite enough and 3 is too much but better too much than not enough.
  2. This may seem obvious but SPF 4 will not fully protect your face against a burn when its layered over moisturizer with SPF 15.  I’m gonna make sure I either (a) buy face sunscreen next time or (b) bring my moisturizer container to the beach with me and reapply.
  3. I will not use foundation while at the beach.  Hopefully, I’ve already worked up a good enough tan that while my skin tone won’t be even – it’ll be something I can live with and not have to deal with the cakey feeling.
  4. Pack aloe vera gel in a travel container and don’t tote the entire bottle down there.
  5. The one day we actually wore tan accelerator, there wasn’t a noticeable enough difference to necessitate brining it along.
  6. After this trip, I have proof that two bikinis is adequate.  Although these really don’t take up *that* much space to begin with.  So maybe more next time?
  7. Even if there’s a washer and dryer, don’t pack less than you normally would and vow to do laundry.  No one wants to spend time doing laundry on vacation.
  8. I will not use a flat iron – the hair dryer (if it doesn’t blow up while gone like mine did) should make your hair look good without looking over done or having to spend too much time on it.
  9. Bring koozies.  They don’t take up any space at all and will keep your drinks from sweating all over the place in the heat/humidity.
  10. Make sure to put makeup bag on the list.  Of all the things I could have forgotten and never in a million years thought I would have, I forgot my makeup.  Not so much fun when the cost of everything is considerably higher.
  11. Make sure the soap container actually has soap in it.
  12. Two travel size tubes of toothpaste is just enough.
  13. Burt’s Bees bug spray is more effective than other cancer-causing brands at preventing mosquito bites.
  14. Regardless of the time of year, sleeping in the airport is going to make me cold.  Make sure to snag a travel blanket from the plane if not bringing one along.

I’m sure there are probably more but those are the ones that jump out in my mind.

Here is a poto of me

Well, not quite yet.  I finally got all of the pictures from the trip moved off of the Time Capsule and onto my laptop.  I did a run through of them tonight and got the count *down* to 1105.  Yes, over a thousand pictures from the trip and that doesn’t even include the ones Matt and Julie took on the last day!  So I’m half way there now that I’ve removed the red and eye and deleted all of the not so fabulous looking ones.  But no pics will be up tonight.  I’ll start selecting the ones to be posted tomorrow and hopefully can get the majority of those posted before the weekend.  Stay tuned…

Messed it all up!

Well I went about updating the WordPress backend this evening and managed to delete all of our previous galleries and images.  Thats what I get for playing with iWeb while trying to follow the simple upgrade instructions.

Hopefully I will get most things working again shortly.

Well its Friday.

Sigh Friday.

Our week is drawing to a close.  We enjoyed a long day at Salomon Beach yesterday, managed to burn the top of my head (again).

We went to ‘The Fish Trap’ last night for dinner, that was ok.  I think they had a new cook so my blackened fish and shrimps were just that.  But Matt and I did get a double helping of scallops since they sent us blackened scallops and we ordered sauteed.

So it turns out that eating fish found high on the food chain here in the Virgin Islands is actually quite bad for you.  Lower fish consume some algae that contain the toxin Ciguatera (see link), then get passed up the food chain to larger fish where it accumulates in high enough doses to be bad for humans.  So when we purchased the red snapper from the fisherman the other day we didn’t know we were playing russian roulette with a poison that can has been misdiagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis.  Yikes!  So from now on we are only getting seafood in the restaurants here, its just quite sad that what we eat isn’t going to be truly “fresh” as they have to import most of the tasty fishes consumed here.

We are heading back to Woody’s tonight so that if we consume to much alcohol tonight we have all day tomorrow to recover before the long journey back home.

Today we are off to Francis and Maho Bay’s for some sitting and snorkeling.

Oh here is a pic from yesterday.
