What’s new?

Some of you already know this so it’s not really new for you, but for everyone else that doesn’t know – we’re expecting a baby.  We’ll officially be in the second trimester tomorrow so I figure it’s a safe time to left the world know.  Well most of our world anyway, I’m not going to tell the people I work with, I’m just going to wait until it’s obvious.  They people there will find out eventually, if they don’t suspect already, I just have no motivation or inclination to make an announcement.

We had our Nuchal Translucency (N.T.) screening today to test for Down’s Syndrome, Spina Bifida, and two different Trisomy variations.  We chose the N.T. option where blood was drawn and we got an ultrasound today and the results are compared and back to us in a week.  Then I go again at 15-20 weeks to have more blood drawn.  The results that we’ll get next week will show our odds as accurately as 80% then the other test it’ll show up to 95% accuracy.  I also had blood taken today to test for Cystic Fibrosis – there’s no family history of it but we just want to make sure.  I was offered this testing at my 8 week appointment but the M.A. or whoever that asked if I wanted it, didn’t know what Cystic Fibrosis was and we didn’t either so we opted against it.  There’s always going to be *something* to worry about while the baby is cooking but hopefully this will put our mind at least a little more at ease.

Pics below are of the 8 week ultrasound, the 13 week ultrasound from today, and then belly pics.  Excuse my hair, it’s in desperate need of a cut and highlights.  Now that I’m out of the first trimester an appointment is definitely on my to do list!

It’s August?

Since Thursday the weather here has been unseasonably cold, even for Colorado.  We’ve had rain on and off with temperatures ranging from the 40s at night to mid-60s during the day.  Friday was only 52 degrees and quite cold.  There was even a little snow at the very top of Pikes Peak this morning.  We had initally thought that the crazy weather was a result of tropical storms on both coasts, but it seems that there was a high pressure front from Wyoming that moved in.  While I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to summer, I’m sure we’ll be thankful when we get our utility bill for this month.  I also noticed yesterday for the first time, that it’s also starting to get darker earlier.  The last of the schools around here are starting this week and I think fall is officially upon us.

Disturbing?

I work for a hospital (well, technically a health system) even though I’m offsite.  Patients and medical personnel come into our building frequently for various reasons.  Is it just me, or is it disturbing that there are no toilet seat protectors in the bathroom?

My Day Off… Sorta

Wednesdays are typically my days off, but I’m demoing a Exchange reporting tool that is currently crawling through about 12,000 mailboxes and we need the results asap.

I’m getting paranoid about our monthly energy costs for the house. So we have been closing the house up during the day and keeping the air on, while opening it up in the evenings when the temp is getting down to the mid 50s.

I drank a whole pot of coffee the other day after not having drank it foe quote some time, and it nearly killed me. It made me very I’ll, ugh. But this morning I’m thinking about going to Dunkin Donuts for a donut and coffee. I guess I didn’t learn.

Back to Work

Right before the lunch meeting yesterday, my account access was restored.  It only took 5 hours.  Fortunately for me, lunch ended up being Olive Garden so no nasty sauces were found.  Word of caution though, avoid the mushroom ravioli.

I know I’m forever claiming about the competency and intelligence of the people I work with.  This is an email I was CC’ed on yesterday: “This did go out on a PO but it don’t show that it have been confirmed by the vendor.”  Wow, this is also the girl that had to take study classes for her GED.  The countdown has begun…

No work

The IS department did an upgrade to our purchasing software this weekend and apparently didn’t move all of the users data over.  I’ve had a call into the help desk for the last 4.5 hours and someone only called me back after I emailed my boss to let her know I still couldn’t get on (I’m assuming she talked to someone and got them to call me back).  So the lady from IS left a voicemail for me and I called her back only for her to tell me she’d call me back.  I have a lunch meting in 15 minutes so I’m hoping she doesn’t call during that or it’ll be after 1 before I can finally do anything.  There’s going to be a lot of people from my departments quite happy with me about all of this.  Ugh, I hope this lunch is decent and not Panera – they always ruin the sandwiches by slathering too much nasty sauce on it.

Family Pictures

Last Christmas, the family opted against exchanging gifts and instead said we were going to use the money we would have spent on family pictures.  We didn’t want to take the pictures while the weather was cold or anything and ended up deciding to do it this summer.  What better time than when my Grandma (mom’s mom) was up here to celebrate her 80th birthday that way we could get both sides of my side of the family.  We haven’t had everyone together for a picture since our wedding and this time the pics were professional!  So on July 26th, we all got up early and went to Garden of the Gods to get our pictures taken.  We’re all really pleased with how they turned out and the photographer was so much too, that they asked our permission to advertise some of the pictures on their site.  Enjoy!

Passive Aggressive Note

Dear Neighbor,

While we enjoy that you have a very active social life and that your children have lots of other kids to play with, we also appreciate your restricting parties to normal waking hours.  As we were attempting to go to sleep at 11:30 last night we were entertained by the sounds of shrieking, young girls still bouncing on the trampoline in your backyard.  As we lay in bed, we prayed each car going down the street would be a cop car ready to have you shut the hell up and call things a night.  I understand we don’t have such a boisterous social circle as you do, but please follow our example and keep it quiet after 10pm.

Thanks so much,

Your neighbors with sleep deprivation.

Finally Friday

Friday is finally here.  Now I’m just counting down till I can get out of this place – 16 minutes left to go.  The local Marriott brought in their ice cream cooler for us as a thank you today.  I don’t really understand what they were thanking us for but gladly accepted an ice cream sandwich anyway.  No plans for the weekend so far.  The only thing we really need to do is make a trip over to my parents house to pick up the family pictures and CD from a couple of weeks ago.  Then maybe take those to get framed (or just buy the prematted Target ones, who knows).  We thought Casey was on call next week but apparently its this one.  It’s a good thing we got in a camping trip while we could.  The weather has been really strange and rainy/cloudy/foggy all week and dropping into the 50s at night.  I wonder if this is an indication that fall will be here early.  While I don’t like cold weather, I guess the cool off could be a good thing since we still need to rip our deck out and hopefully Labor Day weekend rebuild it.  That’s all for now – 11 minutes left.

Trip to South Fork

Kelly and I went down to South Fork to meet James and Lana for a bit of camping in the Rio Grande National Forest.

I took a few pics with my iPhone and I’m trying to post the with the new WordPress 1.1 app.
