Night at Woody’s

James and Lana have this spot picked out and its a true winner.  We are definitely coming back to this place, the bill wasn’t to bad for the amount of time we spent here.  Maybe we will come back during happy hour.
Night at Woody’s

Did a great deal of snorkeling at Trunk Bay today. Kelly and I found a beach that was only reachable by trail or swimming, and sat out there for a bit getting some sun. Was quite enjoyable.

Maybe tomorrow we will try to find Solomon or Honeymoon Bays for some swimming and snorkeling.

Some day this week we are going to make the trek to Coral Bay, there is a burger and beer joint over there that is supposed to be pretty good.

At Woody’s tonight there were a bunch of folks from Clinton, MO, which Matt and I found rather funny. Such a long way to come to find local folks for him and I.

All in all we are having a great time, thus far my brain has been shut off to work stuffs, I hope James is keeping the fort safe at this point.

Tuesday Morning

I would post a new gallery, but but the bandwidth here is less then stelar and for some reason when I put a gallery link in a post the spacing gets all dicked up.  I probably need to upgrade the blog software.  But that will have to wait til we get home.We found a guy selling fresh whole Red Snapper near the docks in Cruz Bay yesterday so we grilled fresh fish last night, pretty good.  We are off to Trunk Bay today to do the snorkeling route, then maybe on up to Maho Bay.I burned the shit out of the top of my head yesterday, so I have to take it easy a bit today, and apply some SUPER SPF to my skull.  I think we may be going to this local joint called Woody’s tonight for drinks and dinner.Ok off to pack up the car.

First Night in St. John

Well we made it, its great so far.  Quite a few mosquitos but other then that its beautiful.  Had a good overpriced dinner last night, but the food was good.  Hopefully we get to do some snorkeling today.  Spent quite a bit of time in the pool and hot tub last night dodging the bugs. Here are a few pics.

On our way to St. John

We left for St. John last night.  Drove up to Denver, parked the car , took the bus to the terminal then slammed three beers and some nachos prior to getting on the plane.

Getting ready to board in Denver
Always trying to find an excuse to use our passports.
Thats how we roll.
On our way to Chicago for a 7 hour layover.
On our way to Chicago
Kicking vacation off right… kegs and eggs style.  Less than an hour before we get on the plane to St. John.

Time Flies

Where’d the weekend go?  Ugh, I’m back at work today glad it’s Tuesday at least but bummed to be back so soon.  The weekend went by way to fast.  But at least the day after the day after tomorrow we leave for St. John so that’s getting me through!

Friday night Casey and I celebrated our SEVENTH anniversary (which was actually yesterday) by going out to dinner at Palapa’s Surfside.  The name really throws people off at what kind of restaurant this is.  When we passed it the first time, Casey and I assumed it was supposed to be like a tiki bar kind of place.  But in fact, its a pretty upscale seafood restaurant.  The Gordon Ramsay in us quickly addressed whythe place wasn’t busier – poor location (behind Village Inn and across from Kohls) with a decor that screams tiki bar yet with a prix fixe menu, and not so great service.  Even still, the food was really good and between the two of us we sampled a good portion of the menu.

Saturday, we planned doing the deck but as you can tell from Casey’s post (below) that didn’t happen.  We’re hoping Marvin and Sally will be able to drive out and help us out some time this summer.  The deck was a really big selling point for us, so I’m sure it’ll be for other buyers too.  I’m really dreading the added expense but unless there’s another fix for the rotten boards then I’m at a loss.  Then that night we went to Hooters to watch the UFC fight.  We got there earlier than we did for the last fight hoping that we wouldn’t have to wait.  Unfortunately we still had to wait and the first seats available were on the porch – covered with plastic, but only at the top – and even though its the end of May, it was way to cold to sit outside.  The waitress finally felt pity on me and the girl behind us and turned on the overhead heater for a short while, but being so cold still took some of the enjoyment out of being there.  Hopefully next time it’ll just be hot and won’t be a problem.  For me.

On Sunday, the family came over to BBQ and to celebrate Dude’s first birthday (which is actually today).  Casey got to try out his new rib racks which worked out really well, as he an now smoke six racks at one time!  We had a lot of great food and conversation and I have a ton of pictures to post of the day!

Yesterday, we saw an early showing of Iron Man.  I need to just stop giving any resistance to watching certain movies that Casey wants to see because I always end up liking them as was the case with Iron Man.  Afterwards we had lunch at Panera and then went to Best Buy and used our $50 gift card they sent us for buying an HD-DVD player.  Between three different coupons and the gift card we bought Superbad and Juno on Blu-ray and still have $8 left over!  Other than that, we just spent yesterday doing laundry and getting stuff together for our trip.  Three more days!!!

Fixing My Deck

So its looking like I’m  probably going to have to replace my entire deck.  I just can’t remove a single board and replace it, as they are mounted in such a way that to remove one board, you would have to remove its partner directly ahead of it, and so on and so on.  Thus to take out one board means I would have to take off every single board. So we went and used the Lowe’s Deck Designer and tried to rebuild our existing deck, from the materials list its pretty outrageous.  So we tried a simpler  design, single tier job, much easier.  We took the materials list over to Lowe’s and the gal over there gave us a rough estaminet of cost.

Needless to say I’m not happy about spending money on a house we will probably live in for less then another year, but when it comes time to sell at least it will be one less thing a potential buyer can ding us on.

Here are some pics so you too can assess the damage.

Kelly and I are going over to Hooter’s later this evening for wings and beers and UFC 84, last time we went we barely managed to get a table as the place was completely packed.

Tomorrow we are having a little barbecue.  I purchased some rib racks at Lowe’s today so I can now easily do 6 racks of baby back ribs in my smoker… assuming they don’t cook to long and all the meat falls off the bone.  Then I may grill up some burgers and or brats.

Then hopefully on Monday we can kick back and relax as its Kelly and I’s wedding anniversary.  We are patiently (sorta) waiting to head to St. John in the coming week.  Since we purchased our new camera look for lots of pics and perhaps some videos to come.  Our villa is supposed to have internet access so assuming I’m not dead of sunburn / alcohol poisoning / shark bite we will have plenty of pics uploaded for all to see.

Are we there yet?

Sigh, I haven’t posted in quite awhile, had considered letting our hosting lapse, but I figured that we should continue holding onto the site for various reasons.

I have been trying to keep a low profile at work.  I have recently been selected to be the Change Control Administrator, which basically means I review change request forms and run 2 meetings a week, a glorified secretary if you will.  Whatever I guess, maybe one day it will get me a promotion, but I doubt it.

Kelly and I recently went to Washington DC for our friend Jun’s wedding.  It was quite interesting as the ceremony was mostly in Korean, with some translation for the benefit of the English only folks.  Got to hang out with Joe at his house, went to Buffalo Wing Factory a few times for wings and beers, and got to see Kevin a few times as well.  All in all a very fun trip, but a little to short.  Luckily our trip to St. John is coming up very fast, I just want to get away for a bit, turn my brain off, lay on a beach.  Who knows maybe I will be kidnapped by pirates, then one day become their leader.  That may be more profitable then working for HP these days… not sure though.

Took Dude to the vet again today (whats new…).  He popped a few stitches in his eyes, and stretched a few others out, but the Dr. says he is doing fine and will get them out next Wednesday.  So hopefully with his eyes corrected we can avoid going to the vet for a few weeks… I hope.

Hmmm not much else going on.  Still haven’t seen Ironman or played Grand Theft Auto 4, even though everyone raves about both.  One day soon I guess.

Really and Truly

Every day in my office there’s a guarantee all of the above phrases will be said at *least* once a day.  Buyer 1 – “Really and truly.”  Buyer 2 – “Does that make sense?”  (Warning: Do not have a conversation with this person because anything they say, even the most basic of things is guaranteed to be followed up by this.)  Buyer 3 – “Oh, well sure.”  Buyer 4 – Not necessarily a phrase from this one, more like bad grammar all the time.  Example: When talking about passport photos she said, “It can’t have no background.”  Grammar nazi that I am, I have to bite my tongue all day, every day.  Someone says “Hey, Georgia.” This is the purchasing secretary (and yes, her title is secretary not admin assistant) and her guranteed response is “That’s me today and I’ll let you be (fill in the blank with your own name).  Every.  Day.  Who talks like that?

As is typical with any daycare, the usual suspects are present at mine.  There’s the crier, the tattletale, the bully, and the child who throws temper tantrums.  And of course many of these titles are applicable to the same person.  So, who am I in that group you ask?  Not one of those listed above that’s for sure, I guess if anything I’m the spoiled one.  Spoiled because I’m used to being treated as an adult and not babysat all day long.

Five and a half hours left and the weekend begins…

Beware of the free lunch

The vendor from Similac came in to meet with all of the buyers today and provided lunch.  While it was sandwiches, salads, cookies, and breads from Panera, I guess they either bought it way before they got here *or* they had the heat cranked in the car because it was not good.  Nothing like a warm wilty sandwich for free.  Since I’ve been craving cookies the last few days it wasn’t a complete waste so at least there was that.

I’m really bored right now.  I’ve just mentally checked our for this weekend and am not motivated to do anything at all.  Not to mention that the rest of my coworkers like to gather around the “watercooler” (or so the secretary calls her desk) to chat every couple of hours and aren’t really being productive either so what’s the point.  I can check into our flight in three more hours and counting.  I’ll have 30 hours after today, then will work another 7 tomorrow before leaving at 1.  This sucks but at least I’m saving myself from using up 8 additional hours of PTO.

Post-op

Dude had the big surgery yesterday and I guess it went as well as can be imagined.  The poor little guy is such a trooper with all he’s had to deal with in his short life.  Between both eyes he has almost 50 sutures, including ones on the outter corners of his eyes.  He’s also wearing a cone so he doesn’t rip the sutures out.  for the most part, he doesn’t seem too bothered by the sutures although he has tried to pry the cone off his head.  I don’t know if that’s because the cone disorients him and he’s not quite sure how to maneuver yet or if he wants to scratch his eyes.  His only post-op care involves antibacterial drops three times a day.  I’m really surprised they didn’t send him home with any pain killers.  There’s no way a human could have tolerated the pain of what he went through without pain killers.  The opthatmologist told Casey the swelling in Dude’s eyes is only going to increase over the next 4-5 days before it goes down.  His follow up visit to have the sutures removed is in two weeks (the day after he turns 1) so we’ll see how things are going at that point.  I guess its rare that a second surgery is needed but is always a possibility with wrinkly dogs.  He’s just so sad looking and his personality is definitely subdued but he’s eating so we’re hoping he’ll only get better.
