Wedding on Saturday

Pictures from yesterday have been added to the gallery.

We went to the reception for the lady that Casey works with yesterday. It began at 5 and we stayed til 9:45. That’s a loong time with people i don’t really know. It went ok and wasn’t too ackward. The food was alright but the desserts were pretty good, except the wedding cake which had whipped icing. Icky. Believe me I saved room for dessert. There was an open bar but after being so spoiled with wine and champagne, after my first vodka tonic, I resorted to Bud Light. Class act! It was a prety reception and the couple seems well sorted for each other. We tried to stop by BevMo on the way home but they closed at 9 on a Saturday night!

I found out my call time tomorrow for Carnivale is at 7:15am and even further away than I originally thought. The rules from the message I received were to wear no makeup or jewelry, bring comfy shoes for when off camera, and have hair in curlers when arrive on set. Good thing everyone else will be looking the same. I’m excited and figure I will have an interesting day. Gonna have a busy week this week!

CA schools suck, work is good

Like Casey said, we ordered a TON of DVDs in the past few days. For those that are interested the code to enter to get your own 20% off order + free shipping = DVDTALK

The philosophy class I was taking (Religions of the West) apparently doesn’t meet the requirement for Cal State Northridge’s critical thinking requirement. And neither did the other critical thinking class I already have from UCCS. I found this out 2 days (Wednesday) before I could get a refund for the course. With the semester already under way, I’m scrambling to find a philosophy class for the summer that hasn’t already started so I can go back to school in the fall. I’m hoping I can find an online class but that looks like it’s going to be pretty hard to do here because they’re about 5 years behind everyone else and are just starting to offer online classes. So if this doesn’t work out I may take the summer off, take the one philosophy class in fall and then try to attend college here in the spring. My other option (that I found while searching last night) is to take the online degree program for CSU (that’s Colorado State University) that they offer that is a major in communications and public affairs. That’s a possibility and even with out of state tuition would be cheaper than tuition here. I’m gonna think about it over the weekend and hopefully come to a decision on Monday.

Work is good. I signed up with two other casting agencies yesterday. One of them (Central Casting) I had to wait at for 2.5 hours before I got to leave because there were SO many people there. Hopefully that’s a good sign, especially since they handle most extras casting for the network shows. The other one I signed up with (Sande Alessi Casting) was fast and she told me it’s not always like that, they had just landed a new project and it would pick up soon. I checked the work line when I got home and the “project” is the untitled Jennifer Aniston/Kevin Costner movie. How cool is that?! Monday I’m booked to work as a townie on ‘Carnivale’, Tuesday I work 9:30-6:30 at Geddes then go directly from there to Universal City Walk to film an episode of ‘Girls Behaving Badly’ which works from 7:30pm – 1:30am, Wenesday I work in the afternoon at Geddes, Thursday I get my headshots done in the morning (yah there was a cancellation and I get them 2 weeks early!), and Friday I work on ‘Girl Behaving Badly’ again at the Bel-Air Hotel. Busy busy!

Like Casey said we’ve got a recpetion to go to this evening. That should be interesting because I’ve only met these people once before. Alcohol loosens inhibitions, so as long as I’m not too loose things should might be more enjoyable. We’ll see.

I’m not sure if I’m ready to be without a car. It’s not that we can’t afford it. Casey’s just frustrated. We need to get our butts down to Toyota and get some of the stuff fixed on it and then see how it runs. Luckily the truck wouldn’t start at home, instead of leaving us stranded somewhere. There’s still a hose that needs to be fixed and the contact points need to be replaced. After that, it’s all bearable. The gas isn’t such an issue anyway since it doesn’t get that many miles put on it each day. Casey was going to take the bike to work yesterday but the tires were low so we have to get a pump for that. He managed to start the truck and it worked fine the rest of the day. Maybe we just need to take the hint and get some things fixed. I can’t imagine, even with Casey’s work being so close, being a couple that doesn’t have 2 cars. How much would that suck?! But ya never know.

We got woken up this morning by people at the office asking for our garage code from the back of our remote. They’re relentless and won’t stop bugging us. We still don’t know about the grill, the owner thinks it’s ok but wants to check with the safety inspector. Why would it be a problem on the roof, if it’s not a problem on people’s balconies? Another weekend without a grill.

If only I had some extra cash around….

I was just checking out THIS article. How kool would that be to have a 1.2TB file server for all your goodies.

I think Kelly ordered about 35 DVDs from Deep Discount DVD earlier today. They were having a bitchin sale, 20 percent off plus free shipping. and then we have 7 DVDs in the mail from Columbia House. With all of these new DVDs we will be over 600 movies. I think the time for the twelve step program is here.

We have a wedding to go to tomorrow, but we probably won’t go to the ceremony. But we will be attending the reception which has a 4 hour OPEN BAR. W00T.

Not much else going on today.

I hate cars.

Well our 4Runner is a piece of shit. This morning I was heading out the door to go to work, and I jumped in the ole’ POS and turned the key. CLICK. Hmmmmmmmm. CLICK. CLICK. Well after much cursing and such i resigned myself to walking to work. Its not like its that far, I’m just very lazy. So this little incident this morning has brought me to begin thinking about either purchasing a new car, or perhaps selling the truck and just buying myself a nice bike. By bike i mean bicycle and not motorcycle (although that might be nice, its kinda impractical). Kelly and i don’t really need two vehicles, I mean my office is between .8-.9 miles from here, I mean I can see the building from our front door. Do I really want to take on another car payment? Its so nice to have two cars that are paid for. Plus it would be a nice drop in auto insurance (at least I think, I don’t know how much a multi-car discount really discounts). So I think I going to ride Kelly’s bike into work tomorrow just to see how it is.

Work has been interesting lately. I learned today that you can’t expect an Intel 1000FX Gigabit Fiber Channel card to work properly in a Cisco 2912 Series 10/100 Fiber Channel Switch. I was under the impression that the intel cards were auto sensing and would step down to 100Mbit mode but that sure didn’t happen. So now instead of using the Intel NIC I have to travel back to the Valley and install a 3Com 990 10/100 NIC into my server to get it to operate properly. Blah Blah Blah words words words. That was not very interesting at all now was it?

I also received a call today from some tech recruiter from the Denver area asking me if I wanted to be submitted for a software engineering job with Northrup Grumman, I told him that I will never go back to software programming (other then ADSI scripts or something like that), not that I was very good at it in the first place. So the guy asked me what my current status was, and if I was looking for a new position. I told him I’m always looking for a new position. And I am. Things here would be better if I was actually doing all the work of a Principal Systems Engineer, but since I’m not actually a government employee I’m not really in charge of the system I’m here to maintain or even responsible for the people that I work with. You hear horror stories of how lazy government workers make their way through life, and several individuals in my office fit that stereotype to a T. So I’m the one stuck picking up the slack for these people, thus I end up doing the work of 5 or 6 people. GRRRRRRRR.

OK no more ranting.

I recently ordered a new pair of sunglasses through the office from Oakley. I managed to get them for half of their retail price, such a bitchin deal. I was sure i was going to get them today but alas my dreams were dashed. Hopefully I can get them tomorrow.

I sure do love the way Safari checks spelling as you type, that feature was made for people like me, now if only it would teach me to write properly.

This song makes me want to beat people (Dial-up Beware 5MB). Gotta love it.

By request

By request, more pictures have been added to the gallery. For ease of viewing, I just added them to the end of the other pictures. Enjoy!

I got all psyched to scrapbook yesterday and picked all my pictures and was moving stuff on the laptops around and had something ready to print and we were out of photopaper. I waited till today because I have a TON of errands to do so while I’m at Best Buy picking up ’50 First Dates’ and some of their 3/$20 deals, I’ll grab some. I went to FYE yesterday to buy The Simpsons season 2 and 3 because they were on sale for $14.99 with $5 MIRs on both but they were sold out. I did find season 3 on their website for $19.27 shipped so that’s still good. We may need to join Costco to get an even bigger reduction on box sets. I’m still waiting to hear from Columbia House if I can sign back up again and get this awesome deal where you get 5 for $.49/each + S&H, a 6th for $9.99, and a 7th for $14.99 then you only have to buy 2 more at regular price of $19.99 and above in the next 3 years. I’ve already gone through their catalog and found the most expensive ones that we don’t have for my free ones so just waiting to hear if they’re going to let me sign up again. The deal works out with all the S&H and regular priced titled to be $7.83 each for 7 DVDs.

We hung out with Megan & Jason last night for the first time in almost a month. Good to see them and their grill again. 😉 (Although at the time of this posting we’re waiting to hear if we can get our own grill for the roof. I’ve been asking them that since October and we still haven’t heard.) We had some brats, corn on the cob, baked beans, and Michelob Ultra while we watched Euro Trip. Good times!

So far there hasn’t been any acting jobs that have come my way. I’ve applied for about a dozen in the last week but I’m sure 21 year old blondes are easy to come by in this town. I had yesterday and today off but work all day tomorrow and Thursday at Geddes so I’ll be able to make a little money this week. I’m having second thoughts about the photographer I’m going to for my headshots so it might be even longer till I get them done. For those interested, I’ll keep ya updated.

Weekend Update

We spent most of the weekend just hanging around the house. Enjoyed having a TiVo (all caught up on Newlyweds now) and watched movies. I didn’t get called to work this weekend and I have off til Wednesday. 🙁 I’m still checking several times a day to find some more work. I wasn’t interested in any movies that came out this weekend but hopefully next week we’ll catch Dodgeball.

Now reading ‘So 5 Minutes Ago’ and then ‘Trading Up’. They’re making a bunch of good books into movies including ‘The Lovely Bones’, ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’, and ‘Can You Keep a Secret’.

AVP

I checked out the new Alien Vs. Predator trailer online. WOW.

Not much going on this weekend. i got called into work yesterday because our Mail Cluster went down. Our backups have been all messed up, so the transaction logs were not getting cleared out. So Exchange managed to fill up a 36GB drive with about 5K log files. And of course the Assistant Director was trying to get his email and it wasn’t available, so many phone calls were made, and eventually the call was made to me to go in and fix it. I had to check the consistency of the Exchange Database and make sure all the logs had been committed, then I moved over 4GB of logs off of the drive then remounted the Mailbox Stores. Hopefully Monday I can get Veritas up and running and get the backups working so that the Trans logs will get completely cleared out. The sad thing is I called Headquarters to let them know that our servers were down, and they informed me that several other mail servers were down all across the domain. After I got the servers fixed I called HQ back to tell them that they could close the trouble ticket. The email administrator for the entire domain got on the phone and asked me what the problem was, and I explained, and then she asked me “Could this be the problem at the other sites?”. WTF. She is the email administrator for an entire domain, and she asks me if the problem I had was happening at the other sites. GRRRRRRRR.

Our TiVo is working out well. Last night I managed to get it connected to our home network, but I wanna go pick-up a wireless USB adapter, so I don’t have the ugly hardline ran across the living room floor.

I’m STARVING right now. All I have had to eat today was an oatmeal square and a Diet Dr. Pepper. Mmmmmm I need some pizza.

Oh and one more thing. For those that have seen Eurotrip and found Scotty’s mail notification message great you can get it HERE. Also for those interested (or who are acutally reading this page) you might find something else kool in my /tmp dir on the webserver. Check it out.

Well if you are going to force me.

Well for the record I have started a post several times and then just decided that it was drivel and discarded it. I really have nothing important or even humorous to post about.

Yes we did score a new TiVo, I will probably wait to see how our TV viewing habits change now that we have it. Even though we have the “EVERYTHING” cable package we only really watch TV maybe once a week. Now movies are another story, I think Kelly told me last night that the number of movies that we have purchased and have not watched is still about 50. Sheesh! Speaking of movies we finally finished the reinventory of all our DVDs. After being without Power/Internet Access for nearly three months our list got a little out of date so here it is. So anyway back to the TiVo, once I see how much recording we do and how often we get to sit down and watch it, then I will crack it open and drop a big HDD in there. The rumor is that TiVo could possibly be pusing out a new kernel for the TiVo OS that will support LBA48 addressing making it possible to drop a pair of 4 or 500GB drives in there (why anyone would want to record that much TV, much less have time to watch that much). But as of right now the biggest drives you can put in are 160GB I belive. I think one 160GB drive along with the inculded 40GB would be enough for Kelly and I. I could set it to record Seinfeld every time it is on, and end up with every episode or something like that.

Work sucks as usual, I think I have come to the resolution that I will always hate my job. And since I’m already in my 7th or 8th year of IT, I’m pretty well locked in for the rest of my life. No chance of making millions in this business unless I open my own company. Perhaps I should open my own digital photography studio. Wedding photographers make a shitload of money, perhaps that is the business I should get into. And with all of the Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro work I have been doing at work for training videos and such I could actually be proficent at it. Now if only I could spell properly.

The world is now a better place

Good luck to Randi who takes her nursing boards today! We should find out Saturday if she passed (and she will). Congrats to Chris who passed his nursing boards last week!

I thought Casey would post something about this but he’s decided people aren’t reading so he won’t bother posting. Last night we went to Best Buy and purchased a real TiVo. We were using a PVR that Casey built when we were still in the Springs and watching quite a bit of TV but Casey started scavenging for hard drives and took the one out of the PVR. Then today Best Buy released a 10% off coupon. Damn, if we would have waited 1 extra day but it’s worth it that we didn’t because now the TiVo is ready to record all the Newlyweds episodes that will be airing, especially this weekend. I’m bummed I missed season 2 and they didn’t post in on the newsgroups so I want to get caught up before the premier of the 3rd season next Wednesday. (Don’t be mad, Blake.) As many of you know the MTV Movie Awards are on tonight. For the first time (I think ever, correct me if I’m wrong) it will be a pre-recorded show from the awards that took place on Sunday night. This recent change has is the result of the FCC’s rampage.
